Hearts in Atlantis is my absolute all time favorite movie. Just enough strangeness to make it interesting.I love Anthony Hopkins,he is such a great actor.

My girlfriend just bought one at a pawn shop and another friend ordered hers at Amazon
I'm sorry, maybe it's just me(and probably is-precious few share my skewed world view), but I kept hoping Sir Anthony would go all Hannibal Lectorish on someone...talk about Low Men in a lovely Port Wine Sauce with a side of shallots!![]()
Agreed, GNTL, he will always be Hannibal for me. Can you imagine him doing the "a goose just flew out my ass" line?I saw the movie before I read HIA and thought it was pretty good (I watch the movie/miniseries first whenever possible so it has a chance to stand on its own before I read the book and go, "aw, crap, they left half of it out and changed half of what was left!"). After reading HIA I watched it again and, yeah, not so great. Not bad, just not nearly as good as what plays in my head when I'm reading the story. There are a few scenes though that I love (mostly because I'm a sentimental fool), and some really good lines. Plus, um, I'm a sucker for David Morse's hangdog eyes.

I totally agree. Hearts in Atlantis is my favorite Stephen King book, and the movie left out way too much. I really liked the part about the college years since I grew up in that era.
The ending of the book makes me cry every time.
Yeah well you didn't watch Hearts In Atlantis, you watched Low Men In Yellow Coats shot using the wrong title. Kind of a pet peeve for me. In the book, I really liked the Hearts story the most. It seemed like both a scarier time and a simpler time to live in. I know thats a contridiction but I cant imagine anyone going to college today and having the guts to ditch class to play cards addiction or not.
Hey that line about the kiss that all other kisses would be measured against? Didn't that get used in a much earlier movie or book? When I read it I was sure I had heard or seen it before.
I thought book the movie and the book were great. I also like the Hearts story, but I'm not sure how they could pull that off now... although the actress who played Carol is old enough now to play her again in that story. lol.
I saw the movie. It was good but they left out the other stories and the low men, and they should have played up Ted's psychic abilities as well. Maybe they should do a remake with all the stories then it would truly be Hearts in Atlantis. I have the book so I think I might give it a read again.
Great book, loved the story and will probably read it again. But terrible movie. Movie was so far off from the book that I disliked watching it and will not recommend that anyone see it.
