Yes, I absolutely love "A Song of Ice and Fire." I just wish that Martin would complete the fifth book and have it published ASAP.

I love the Song of Ice and Fire series! Along with Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, it is one of my favorites of all time.
Mr. Martin is an amazing writer!
And of course I can't wait to get my hands on book 5 of Ice/Fire but, he is working on "Wildcard" novels right now. (Which, I hear are good)
From what I hear, he just doesn't have it in him right now to complete book 5. No problem, look how long we waited for the completion of the Dark tower series. And was that worth the wait?
Answer: An emphatic YES! And that is the truth.
Was it a pain like Blaine to wait for the train to get the station and burn his brain? Yes, and that is the truth.
What of the "Wolves" garbed in green? No matter the years in between, in the end did they serve the beam? Yes, and that is the truth.
(Okay, I'm getting carried away. I'll stop)
The point is, a great book series is always worth the wait. And, there is so much other great stuff (from any number of authors) to read in the interim. So, why fret? (Yes, I used the word fret. Lol. Maniacal cackling ensues)
I'm sure Book 5 of Ice/Fire will rock. And you can bet I will be at the bookstore the minute it is released.

Its the best fantasy has to offer imo, these days. HBO is shooting the pilot as we speak for the series. The writer used to write for the twilight zone, go figure. The characters are awesome and the dialog is great. The only bad thing is that he is taking his sweat ass time to come out with the next book.

    Seriously though, he's taking forever.

Yeah, no kidding! I think Book 4 came out in 2005, or am I mistaken?

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that the fifth installment isn't scheduled for publication until sometime in 2012....

How does everybody feel about this series now that HBO's season 1 has aired? I started reading the books after all the hoopla over the TV series (even though I didn't watch it). I'm only halfway through A Clash of Kings and I think it's excellent, but I had to put it down for a while to read something else. I do get a little tired of reading all the detailed descriptions of what everyone is wearing and eating, etc. but for the most part it moves along well, and I'm interested/engaged in what happens to the characters. I'm thinking about stopping in the middle since GRRM seems to take his sweet time writing each installment, I'd hate to get 5 books in and then have to wait five years for the next one. Plus, I've read that even after 5 books a lot of the plot I'm really interested in, based on the foreshadowing in the first two books, is rather up in the air.

Oh, and I'd also like to say that in my opinion, all the talk about GRRM being the American Tolkien is total rubbish. This is good, but not THAT good.
