When asked why he picked the 1958 Fury, King explained that he chose it because the car was "one good looking 1950s car that, unlike such cars as the 1949-51 Mercs or 1955-57 Chevys, didn't have a cult mythology built up around it."

I see where this could be true. Until Christine the car was hardly even noticed, certainly not a cruiser even back then. I have to admit that Christine was my first Stephen King book. It is one of my favorites and yes, it did scare me. I did like the movie too but I think you cannot get all of the details that the book had in a 2 hour movie. If Christine was based on a 1960s car I think it would be one of the muscle cars we had back then like a Roadrunner (I had a 69) or a Charger.I for one am glad he chose the 58 Fury for Christine. It just fits well with the story and is a great looking car.

In the 60s and 70s when not working on cars I kept myself busy building model cars. Recently I wondered why no one produced a model of Christine .Did a search on Ebay and was surprised to see that Ert lin 2004 made a 1/18 scale diecast model of Christine with working headlights. Clicked the buy it now button and it will be on its way to me soon.
