Default 58 Plymouth Fury in "Christine", Why that car Stephen?

A good friend of mine, for many years, has wondered if his car was the model for choosing the 58 Plymouth Fury in Christine. He had a similar car only it was yellow and white. He always parked it in front of his shop, Bill's Body Shop, on Oak Street in Lisbon Falls. You would have to see it when you came over the bridge when you went to high school. I believe his wife Margo was in your class. He would be too proud to ask you so, where now I'm retired and have plenty of time on my hands LOL, I thought I'd find out! Margo was the one that got me started on your books with Salem's Lot. She recognized so many places!
Margo has since passed away but Bill is still in the business but now across from the shopping center.
    Continue to write great books!

Stephen King owned one himself, I believe.
And although I'm not a car buff at all, I do think the Plymouth Fury is one very good looking car. Looks very menacing as well.

Plus, the name Plymouth Fury has a certain menacing quality about it. Sounds much better than a Gremlin. lol

I think the Plymouth Fury worked really well for Christine. It was really terrifying. I wonder how many cars they went through in the making of the movie.

25 Fury's (Furies?) and/or Belvedere's were used. The Fury was basically the sport edition of the Belvedere, so both could be used in the film. About 13 or 16 of those were destroyed during filming. Since these were quite rare even in the eighties, many collectors were upset when they heard that. Understandable.
But it's odd that even though Stephen used to own one, he got a fact wrong. The Fury had two doors instead of four as described in the book. I guess mistakes can happen .

Funny thing about Christine- after I read the book recently a Red Fury showed up at the antique car dealer nearby. It was gorgeous!
But I believe it was looking at me when I'd drive by.
Thank God someone else bought it before I got sucked into the vortex!

If Christine wasn't a Fury, I wonder what she would have been. A Volkwagen Beetle? An El Camino?

She would have been a Lamborgini or a Ferrari, even a Corvette.

A VW Bug or an El Camino ? OMG- Surely you jest!

You might as well say a Pinto or a Vega or a Nash !

Just a great car couldn't imagine it being any other car, it has the perfect name Plymouth FURY.
I think I heard King say he picked the car because it was the only classic American car that hadn't been used in media (it was something like that)

I love that car one of the all time great cars from a book or a movie.
