What is it about publishers that will continue to print books by dead authors but make it seem as if they are still among the living. Richard Laymon being a perfect example.

As far as I know, there are no new Laymon books, just reprints of old ones. Oh, I suppose there may be a new manuscript lying around somewhere, but that's about it. No one is writing books that are being published under Laymon's name.
Robert Ludlum is a better example. He's still prolific, long after his funeral.
another is Tolkien since there are still a few unwritten books that will be released in the future.
Yes I saw recently that Cemetery Dance is reprinting a Laymon's first book? but I do not think it is a "new" book just a reprinting. I would hope if benifits his wife and family.
CD is also doing "In Laymon's Words," which is both a collecton of essays or stories inspired by Laymon and will also contain some unpublished works from Laymon, done with the cooperation of his wife and daughter.
Dead or Alive....I think if an author is popular then publishers should keep a steady flow of re-prints.
Good writers live forever in the hearts of the reader!
