    Default Synecdoche, New York

I recently watched this film .. twice actually and It's one of my favorite films of the last five years. It is also the directorial debut of Charlie Kaufman who also wrote the film.

Simply amazing. Brilliant. Original and truly innovative and above all inspriing.

Kaufman is a genius in his own time.

For those who don't know what the film is about it's about Caden Cotard who is a theatre director with a mess of problems (who isn't) he is issued a MacArthur grant, which is a creative grant where you are given money on a monthly basis, to contribute something to the world creatively. Caden then decides to build a replica of New York inside of a warehouse.. and in the replica, there is of course a replica of the warehouse they are in.. and in that warehouse, there is another replica of New York.. and so on ..

and this is the mind of Charlie Kaufman.. the film is littered with brilliant subtlties and minor details and discrepencies that let you know you are taking a walk inside the mind of Kaufman.

There is no other filmmaker with his vision and I absolutley love it.

for those who have watched and enjoyed, Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I suggest you watch this ..

How this film was not nominated for anything.. atleast best original screenplay is beyond me..

this is the most overlooked film of the year

Black Suit, you hit the nail on the head with this one!

I was completely intriqued by this movie. It's so complex and full of surprises. Charlie Kaufman is the real deal and I look forward to whatever he choses to do next.

Regarding the lack of award nominations: remember that this is a signifier of nothing and consider that Julia Roberts won a best actress award for "Erin Brokovich" over Ellen Burstyn in "Requiem for a Dream"! There you go.
