I watched "Let Me In". I really enjoyed it.
I know that it is a remake. If anyone has seen the original "Let The Right One In" how was it?

Shutter Island on TV late last night. I read Dennis Lehane's Mystic River, saw the movie, both great. I'd not read Shutter Island. I'm a Scorcese fan, trusting him to make a movie I'll enjoy in some if not most ways. Overall, I recommend Shutter Island as an interesting psychological mystery/horror. I imagine it gains on re-views as it seemed a bit difficult to follow first time.

"Horror of Dracula" (the Christopher Lee, Hammer Studios Dracula) and "Iron Giant" for our weekly Friday double feature.

"Drive" starring Ryan Gosling. I watched it at the theater, then I rented it and then I bought it. Just gotta love the 300m vs the five point oh car chase.Sweet

Black Snake Moan. The plot was a bit thin in places, and the screenplay wasn't as strong as I would have liked, and the characters sometimes acted uncharacteristically, but overall I call it good.

Jackie Brown (again) - A favorite of mine and it's hard to believe it's 15 years old. Pam Grier and the whole cast are great. Bridgett Fonda is smokin' hot in this.

Ides of March - An excellent movie starring Ryan Gosling and George Clooney about the extreme cut-throat nature of running a political campaign. Give this movie a chance because in the first 15 minutes or so, you may think you are going to be subjected to a ideological movie but it's not that at all. It is about the inner workings of two campaign staffs that have candidates running for President. I think the filmmakers did a very smart thing here and made both candidates from the same party running in the primaries. If they would have made one candidate a Democrat and one a Republican running for President, then there would have been complaints about the film leaning one way or the other. By being candidates from the same party, that's not an issue.

I watched Cowboys vs Aliens and based on that I can see why people would think Daniel Craig would be a good choice for Roland. I'm not sure why his character in this movie had to leave the town at the end. He was forgiven for what he did, they needed some muscle why not stay? Does every cowboy movie have to include the cool dude riding off into the sunset alone? Soooo predictable! I wasn't a fan.

Watched a really interesting documentary last night called "Unfinished Spaces", about a project begun in the early days of the Castro era in Cuba to build five world-class schools of art on a former golf club in Havana. The project fell victim to some internal politics and one of the architects was exiled, but the buildings remain, in various states of completion, and in various states of use. Fascinating story, and renewed my lust to spend some more time in Havana.
