Safe House - Good movie, kept our interest, great acting. The downside, too many chase scenes and not enough dialogue. Actors, like Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, could have taken the film one note deeper (IMHO).

Rock Of Ages - entertaining music nonsense
The Pact - atmospheric suspense horror which finally makes no sense
Red Lights - doesn't bear serious examination, but a fun ride
Fast Girls - Rocky, only English sprinting girls instead of boxing
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - presposterous romp
The Five-Year Engagement - the five-year rom-com (it just feels like it at times)
Lay The Favourite - entertaing but confusing gambling movie
    Chernobyl Diaries - predictable horror
Friends With Kids - foul-mouthed romcom about people I didn't care about
The Amazing Spider-Man - OK but unnecessary reboot
Katy Perry: Part of Me - not for people who don't like her or want serious concert footage
Storage 24 - monster on the loose in confined space after a handful of people

Moneyball - Excellent movie about the inner workings of the 2002 Oakland A's. If you are a baseball fan, you will like this.

Eventually got round to watching Never Let Me Go.As per usual I was disappointed with the film, not a patch on Kazuo Ishiguro's book,an author I would recommend whole heartedly

The Amazing Spider-Man. Rather good. I think it was just what I expected, not something that would amaze me, but still, I liked it, and I have a good feeling that I have watched a quality movie.

I saw Ted last weekend. I thought it was great. The third act is a bit darker than the first two, but its worth it in the end.

Just like Paul last year, Ted's CGI is absolutely seamless. He actually becomes a full fledged character and you forget he's a teddy bear. It's kind of amazing that way.

Hopefully they'll do as well if/when Oy gets to make his film debut.

Sarah's Key, about a journalist living in Paris who researches what happened to a little girl during the Holocaust - very good movie...heard the book is even better (no surprise there!)...

The Searchers (1956) - Excellent John Ford / John Wayne western. It is unusually dark for a 1956 movie and it deals with deals with racism in a truthful way (quite a feat for 1956). I think this is one of John Wayne's finest performances as he straddles a fine line between hero and villain. It's out on blu-ray and the John Ford landscapes are gorgeous.

I saw this on the blu-ray version and there is a documentary on the disc with Martin Scorsese talking about the film. He mentioned that the film was shot in "Vista Vision" which they don't use anymore. The unique feature of "Vista Vision" is that you can have close ups and long shots in focus at the same time in the same shot. If you watch this movie, pay attention to that because it is remarkable looking.

Got to "Moonrise Kingdom" last weekend. Beautiful, beautiful movie. Now that I think of it, some of King's love of that period between childhood and adolescence in that film.
