I love his works, but they give me a headache with his visuals! I would like to know other peoples thoughts on him and other information that viewers have. Thanks!

Hi,
My problem with Lovecraft is that my brain can't pronounce many of his names, and I find this causes a barrier. IMO he';s a great storyteller but a impenetrable writer, although he's well worth the effort.
Years ago a friend recommended that I give his characters mental nicknames, and I found this great advice and enjoyed him more.

I recently perchased a large collection of his stories. Unfortunately it's on the 2 B read stack.Looking forward to getting the chance to dive in to that massive book though.
Hi,
I was just thinking about this, and I'd like to make a musical comparison with Robert Johnson, the Delta bluesman who sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads, and died barking like a dog (he was poisoned by a jealous husband).
Johnson's work is unbelievably dark, sinister, and downright strange and to this day no-one can play like him, but without Robert Johnson we wouldn't have any of his disciples, like Hendrix, Claptom, Beck, Page etc ad infinitum, and I feel that Lovecraft holds a similar literary position.
And thankee to Kim, who gave me a wonderful book on Johnson for my birthday!

I first read Lovecraft in my science fiction American culture class. I didn't really get it. Last year, I caved and purchased a collection of his stories. They are marvelous. His style can be cumbersome, but at the same time the depth and richness it gives the stories is amazing. For me, his stories are a lot like reading Sherlock Holmes, in that I love and treasure them, but I must only enjoy them in small doses or I'll burn out.
My eldest son reads Lovecraft, I don't like to read books that give me a headache from to much visuals . I don't tend to enjoy that. Now, i don't read just fluff books, but i do enjoy a book that flows and you don't have to strain your brain the whole time you read. It just isn't that enjoyable to me.
Now saying that , which one is the best and lest straining on the noggin, maybe i'll give it a shot. I'll be back later on in the posting to see what you guys got to say.
I had never read any Lovecraft until I joined this board, met up with RJT (aka Achmed), and pursued his recommendation. I was intrigued also after learning that Lovecraft was an influence for SK.
I haven't been disappointed. While I don't have any desire to read Lovecraft on a full-time basis, I enjoy reading the occasional story here and there. In The Vault and Pickman's Model are favorites.
