Default Sesame Street 40 years old.

I can remember my mom turning on the tv and my little brother and myself plunking ourselves in front of the set and watching for the first time the new show Sesame Street. Wow, has time passed. My favorite characters were of course Ernie and Bert. (people now say that they were the first gay puppets.) and cookie monster. It brings back simpler times, and a time where the only thing i had to worry about was, well nothing, school? Raised my kids on that show. They learned abc's etc. Does anyone else have any memories and good thoughts about Sesame Street.

I loved Sesame Street as a Kid! I LOVE the Count and Big Bird. Such good childhood memories with my little sister!

Sunny day - Sweepin’ the clouds away,
On my way to where the air is sweet.
Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street.

    Come and play, everything’s A-OK
Friendly neighbors there that’s where we meet
Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street

It’s a magic carpet ride. Every door will open wide.
Happy people like you. Happy people who.

Like a beautiful sunny day sweepin’ the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame street, how to get to Sesame Street, How to get to . . .

I loved Ernie. My Aunt even made me a shirt with a relief map of his head-(for lack of a better phrase)-It had a big ball nose, fuzzy hair, wobbly eyes and sat smack on my tummy. I loved it!-until I cracked my head on my best friends bed whilst wearing it There really is little scarier than an Ernie head covered in blood...those big plastic eyes beaded with blood- (*shiver)

“These early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child.”

Isn't that funky? The stuff we grew up on, is no longer suitable for children. It's mainly because of the friendly nature of the show, loving your neighbors and trusting them, not being afraid to go into their houses alone to visit for whatever reason...

I liked Sesame Street a lot growing up. Random puppet sketch comedy... peppered with little cartoons and songs and dances... how could you go wrong?

Cause if you EAT and BREATHE and GROW, that is how you KNOW, OH OHHHH, YOU'RE ALIVEEEEEE!!!!

Or, "A container of milk, a loaf of bread, and a stick of butter! I REMEMBER I REMEMBER!"

I had that, "one of these kids is doin his own thing, one of these kids, isn't the same..." song posted as my quote on some webspace I have out there. I always liked that song. Bu then, I was always that kid. =oD

    Only you, brownmouse. Only you.

I loved Sesame Street. Anybody else remember the chicken song? "There are chickens in the trees, there are chickens in the trees. Won't you listen to me please? There are chickens in the trees."

I was a huge fan of Grover when I was a little kid... and I grew up with Sesame Street. It was my favourite show when I was 5.

WOW! I loved that show. I can't believe it is 40 and going strong. My kids watched it when they were younger, I thought it had changed over the years, but the main idea is still there I guess.
