I read those when I was in high school, got to book 6 and quit until the series was finished because I had to reread the previous books to understand what the heck was going on. I got my husband started on them about a month ago, he really enjoys them. He even gave up video games in favor of reading. (That's a big deal, in case you were wondering. )

I haven't checked lately, but Jordan's family picked a writer to complete the final book. The dragonmount.com website reported it would likely be published in the fall of this year.
If that's the case. I'll reconsider. I could live with that.
But ofcourse I have to read about 5 more King books that I have lined up first, so I won't be ready for them for awhile.

A close friend of mine told me to read them, yet I can't find myself doing so. It looks too "mythical" for my liking. He says he'll read "The Stand" if I read the first book in the series. I'll most likely get around to it for just that reason... as soon as I'm finished with Needful Things, Cell, Dreamcatcher, The Shining and Bag of Bones that is.

The Wheel Of Time is one of the most creative and interesting fantasy sagas out there. While you will not get the type of character growth and deep character introspection that you get from Mr. King. You will get a vivid new world to stomp around in. Massive in scope and steeped in history, Mr. Jordan's world is filled with some of the most fantastic creatures and things high fantasy has ever seen.
It is good versus evil on an epic scale.
You will especially enjoy it if you are into Mythology. As he sprinkles in elements of Mythology from around the globe.
I am currently reading book 11 and I am definitely enjoying it. Although, I felt that the middle books lost some steam, the last two have really picked up.
The showdown with the "Dark One" is only a book away! It should be great.

The new WoT book, The Gathering Storm, comes out the 27th of this month. There will be two more books coming out after that, one next year and the other one the year after next. I'm a huge fan of the Wheel of Time series, accidentally discovering the adventures of Rand, Mat, Perrin, and the gang right after I graduated from high school many moons ago.

I really liked the first 3 books but it began to putter out after that. It should have been a four part set, he just dragged it out and dragged it out until... well you know the ending.

I did love them though, all in all. Rand and Matt being my favorite characters by far.

It was a very enjoyable and respectable series, from what I finished (#5, maybe #6?).

    I just got sidetracked.

    I read #1.
Then the second came out, so I read #1 and #2. Then #3 came out, so I read Numbers 1,2,3...so on, you understand.

There were too many lapses. Same thing happened with Terry Brooks over the years.

"Wheel" isn't groundbreaking, but I enjoyed my time there. Give it a shot.
