I just finished reading the Kindle version of "The Stand". In my previous post, I noted that I only found one typo so far, but I had only gone as far as Part One. As I finished the book I noticed that there were several random ampersands (&) in the text for no reason at all, as well as a few 1 instead of I. So there are definately text issues that they need to resolve. Hopefully they will fix these issues and get an updated version back on to Amazon as soon as possible.

I'm glad that the publishers are committed to posting typo-free versions of Kindle books instead of just posting them and letting the errors stay there, even if it means inconveniencing people a bit. Although they should tell us when and why they take books down, instead of just dropping them off the face of the earth with no explanation.

I dont know why, I just cant do this kind of reading. I like the smell of the books while I read. Sounds like many are enjoying it, though!

It's an e-book reader by Amazon. What makes it unique is it has whispernet, so you can download books directly to the Kindle, without hooking it to your computer (wherever you have sprint access). There is no charge for the wireless feature--it's included in the price of the unit. The prices of the e-books on Amazon are significantly cheaper (for me). A majority of hardcover bestsellers go for $9.99--books I would usually wait to come out in paperback. Also, any books out of copyright protection such as classics by Dickens are free. (There is not a significant price break for mass paperback books.)

I bought if for my husband because he tends to read 3 different books at a time. He also travels a lot and isn't always near a bookstore when he finishes a book. I "stole" it from him and discovered the ergonomics of reading a big, hardcover book on the kindle is amazing ("The Stand") and it still allows me to highlight passages for future reference. I also enjoy downloading samples of books before buying.

We are "techies" and big Amazon fans, so this is perfect for us (we just bought our second one so we can share books). However, there are other models available--Sony is a popular one.

I've read discussion threads elsewhere (amazon.com and kindleboards.com) that "The Stand" was removed from amazon.com (had been available for Kindle download for under $3!) due to format problems. Sure never thought it would take this long for it to return!

Anyone have an update on when (if???) it will return for Kindle download? My all-time favorite Stephen King novel, and I can't wait to re-read (again and again!) this on my Kindle!

Any update on this? It's been a while now, I think?

I see, also, that on the Amazon page for the Kindle edition, it says "The publisher has requested not to enable Text-to-Speech for this title." I wonder if that's correct?

    Any update, Ms Mod?

Sorry, I don't have an update as to why. I've only heard the discussion about possible infringement of audio books but this one hasn't been released as a mass market audiobook. There was an audio version of the 1978 text but that is not widely available.

OK, I just checked Amazon.com last night to see if any other King titles have been released for the Kindle, and I saw that The Stand is again available for purchase again. I know this for a fact, because I actually re-downloaded the title, and it was updated from my previous version.
