road trip books?

Does anyone know any good road trip books? Stories about going out on the road, or at least a story that includes lots of traveling. So far the only books i can conjure up are ones that were recently adapted into feature films, like "the Motorcycle Diaries", to use an example off the top of my head.

One that comes to mind that I enjoyed is Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck. It's a journal of a cross-country road trip Steinbeck made with his dog, Charley. It's really neat!

Jack Kerouac, esp. On The Road and Desolation Angels, Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test, Zen in the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, LOTR, Homer's Odyssey and esp Sai King's The Talisman and Dark Tower all much recommended.

wow I never even thought of Lord of the rings as a travel book! I mean duh, of course it is, but at the same time, I've never really considered it one.

The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty was recommended by SK so i picked it up and it did not dissappoint

My road trip book is the Stand. As I live in Australia and most of our country is deset. So driving around I was thinking what it would be like if I had to walk it!
