    Default Touching books

I came back from a wonderful trip to Brazil some days ago and when I was there, I was reading "the stand" and I haven`t finished it yet, so everytime I open it, it brings me memories of the trips..
Does it happen to you that some books have specials meanings because you were reading them at a special moment?

Yep - I discovered the Dark Tower on my very first trip overseas. Whenever I think about Roland (or more specifically, Jake and Oy) I always imagine myself under the hot, humid sun in Malaysia lazing by the pool in our hotel....

Great thread. A whole bunch of sK works touch on a specific period in my past during which time I was clinically depressed due to a failed relationship. I needed something powerful to distract me from the emotional pain I was experiencing, picked up sK, and started reading. I became, like you all, one of The Constant Readers, thank God.

Those works include Desperation, Insomnia, Roadwork, The Long Walk, The Running Man, The Regulators, Rose Madder, The Shining, and Misery.

I think the one book of Sai King's that has the most personal meaning to me is The Dark Half. Just looking at that book brings back the memories of my own encounters with brain tumors and it's a constant reminder of the stregnth I had to get through it.

    Hi,

Yes, very much so, books bring back memories for me just as songs do, a book not only tells a story, but for me it HAS a story as well.

Rose Madder brings back my only attack of sunstroke, for example, Wizard and Glass memories of the day of publication when my son made a 50 mile taxi journey in Spain to get it for me, my Uncut Stand my parents last holiday in the US, the six part Green Mile bribing my daughter to go to the store and get it for me before her mother did.

In fact, just about every Sai King book triggers a memory in me (and many other books as well).

    Long days and pleasant nights

The first three DT books remind me of New York - I bought them there on my first trip over years ago.... they travelled all over the world packed in a suitcase at the bottom - must have really upped my luggage weight allowance - didnt read them until after I got home. I bought a few softcovers on my last trip to NY last year that were never released here so when I see them I think of NY as well.
