The ending seemed to be missing something. It seemed rushed. But maybe that's coming from me just getting done reading the dark tower series - SIX BOOKS - then moving onto the cell. LOL I'll have to read it again and reassess.

I didn't like Cell. It's probably one of my least favorite of King's books. I'm into animal welfare, and seeing humans attacking their pets in the first chapter really bothered me. I saw too much of that in real life while working at an animal shelter. I didn't like the ending either, mostly because I've got to have closure. Open endings drive me absolutely nuts.

I agree completely. I thought the ending was perfect. I'll spend more time thinking about Cell wondering what the various scenarios might be as opposed to knowing everything and not giving it another thought.

I just finished a re-read of Cell and really enjoyed it this time around. I was also struck by the similarities with The Stand, which made it even more enjoyable. Disaster leaves two distinct groups of survivors. Communication in dreams/visions (or in this case podcasts). As well as a journey on the highways... Good stuff.

FYI to anyone who might want to discuss Cell in depth - There is a Cell re-reading group that has lagged in the past few weeks. You can find it in The Calvins social group as a separate discussion. Be warned - spoilers abound. Please come check it out and offer your two cents. This book is too good not to discuss at length.

I'm a new convert to Cell. It didn't impress me much on the first reading. And even at the start of my recent re-read, it came across as rushed, without the "broad strokes" I associate with SK character development. About 1/4 of the way through, however, something clicked. I was reminded of The Stand for one thing. I also found myself seriously creeped out by the flock mentality of phone-crazies.

This is one of those instances (for me at least) when a re-read made all the difference. I'll set it aside for another year and see if it improves even more...

Yes i can relate to what your saying about no closure at the end of "Cell", that's a good way of putting it - my response was "WHAT ?" I couldn't believe SK was leaving us hanging like that, wondering if the wee man was going to make it or not, but i guess it's a perfect example of a good cliffhanger of an ending.

Just finished Cell...It was a great read, reminded me alot of The Stand(which is my all time favorite book hands down, by any author). The only gripe I have is the ending too. Just a little more insight to the characters ending wouldn't leave me hanging like this. When I read(especially S.K. books), I project the characters into people I know. With Cell I was Clay and Johnny was my son, my heart wept with Clay while he was in the dark as to the whereabouts and condition of his little guy. I wish we had a little more to go on with how the events turned out, but King is the master.
