What do love/hate about your kitchen/house?

Okay, we did it. My husband and I put a hold on a lot. We're going to build a house!

...

So, if you built a house, or bought a house, or live in a house, or know about houses, tell me: what are some things you have in your house that you love/hate, and what are some things you wish you had? I'm specifically thinking about the kitchen right now, but I'll take anything you've got.

I know a few things about our kitchen: it's smallish by US standards (about 12x12), open to the breakfast/hearth area, and it will be L-shaped with an island. There is a walk-in pantry. I'm getting a gas cooktop for sure—I'm so psyched about that—and I really am going to try to fit in double ovens (both in the floorplan and in our budget).

I don't have enough storage by far...

Plus the cupboards still need to have doors built, so everything in the cupboards has to be dusted.

My kitchen is to small, for all the baking and cooking I like to do (not enough counter space). Like Lady Pain, I need more storage space. I don't think you can ever have enough closets and cubbies.

I really like the pot-filler faucet I had installed over the stove--great for when you're making pasta or need to add water to something you're cooking. My stove is a Jenn-Air dual fuel so has a gas cooktop and two electric ovens but is the same size as a normal range. It's just the two of us most of the time so I use the small upper oven for most of my broiling/cooking so it doesn't use a lot of energy to heat up like the big lower oven. It has a lot of other nice features, too. That way I got my two ovens but didn't have to use wall space to install a double oven.

No good organizational system in my cupboards, and not enough storage. I need more drawers, and less really deep cupboards where you have to crawl in to find the appropriate piece of cookware.

I'm going to have to check out that range, Ms. Mod. I love the idea of the pot-filler faucet too, although I may have to settle for orienting the sink and cooktop in convenient locations.

Keep it coming, people! We're going to live in this house for a long time; I don't want to make any mistakes.

I love having lots of cabinet space and an island in my kitchen! Oh and a closet for the cleaning stuff and trash can is a nice feature too. Above all, make room for a dishwasher! I don't think I could live without mine.
