Hey, man....I'm not sayin' all substitutes are bitchin' awesome; I'm just sayin' that lentils and Boca burgers and goat cheese and black beans and age dashi tofu are wonderful replacements for meat. I still eat meat and enjoy it when I do, but I don't think it's either healthy or necessary to do so every single day of the week.

....and now we learn that traces of horse meat have been found in school dinners in 47 schools here in the UK. That does make me chuckle given they were sending kids home as their packed lunches they'd bought in wern't deemed "healthy" enough.....
Re: I'm So Hungry I Could Eat A Horse
I asked my mom last night about eating horse in post-war France when she and her family lived there. She and the kids who attended the American military school in Fontainebleau ate lunch in a caserne that was supplied with local food stuffs. She said they were served something with ground meat on one of the first days of the schoolyear, and that it was delicious...but soon afterwards the "hamburger" meat took on a funny taste - it was no beef that she'd ever tasted - and she stopped eating it. It apparently smells sweet when it's cooking. -They lived across a busy highway from a horse slaughterhouse and she said they could occasionally hear a horse screaming...and that's when she connected the dots.
