Re: Offended by Christmas greetings...
I love Christmas and everthing that the holidays represent. I say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to everyone I see. My greeting depends on which ever phrase chooses to come out at that point. I like being able to wish someone well and spread holiday cheer without having to think about whether or not I am being politically correct so I tend to use both.

Re: Offended by Christmas greetings...
I will wish people a Happy Christmas, because for me it's a time to celebrate the birth of Christ and not simply a commercialised holiday. If people don't like that then it's there problem, not mine. I am tolerant of other people's beliefs, religions and holidays, and will not feel ashamed for wanting a holiday associated with my religion to be recognised.
Re: Offended by Christmas greetings...
Christmas has been celebrated in the Western world for centuries...peace on earth and goodwill towards men. Now it is best whispered because it is offensive to some....a small minority.
Tolerance works both ways. Years ago, the RCMP were asked to allow members to wear turbans if they were Islamic. The uniform of the RCMP goes back in history...it has been changed to its recent uniform with a great deal of respect and consideration for this famous police force. The minority of folks who wished to wear turbans were allowed to do so. I have no problem with that. This is what it means to be tolerant.
I did have a problem when they asked to not have to wear motorcycle helmets and to wear turbans instead when they ride their cycles. I would get fined if I did that. It is dangerous.
Now that we have shown that goodwill, you would think that folks would respect each others traditions and feasts. The converse is true though. There is little respect for our own beliefs.
Christmas now has become a dirty word in our own country. Not all of it comes from immigrants either...the atheists and the politically correct are just as responsible. I cannot understand what kind of person would be so miserable to complain about this holiday of peace.

The turban and ceremonial sword regulation within the RCMP is something I refuse to voice my opinion on because it will get me in too much trouble.
I do agree with you Staro, Canada is considered a cultural melting pot but I really think sometimes that things to go far when we have to give up our traditional customs such as saying Merry Christmas in an effort to accomodate another. I am all for promoting other cultures and religions but what I am really afraid of is that we as Canadians are going to lose our traditions because we are trying so hard to make everyone feel welcome.
