Thank you, Stephen, for a book that is entertaining, full of wisdom-minus the bull****, and made me laugh out loud. I will not be writing anything. Although I was an English major in college and currently teach high school English, I have no self confidence in my writing. I received the copy from my department chair who's met Stephen numerous times, and was beyond tickled when he was able to ask a direct question. I kept the book at arm's length until a few days ago, and enjoyed every bit of it.
I love to read and have an extremely nice, soft voice that would be great on audio books; I just haven't found out how to get hired for that cool gig. (That sounds pretty damn creepy as I type! No wonder I've never put pen to paper...Hee!)

I am embarking on the journey of reading the uncut publication of The Stand. So far, I'm hooked! :) An old fan with a renewed spark.

...Kim, you have no idea if you can write or not-until you put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard...my scribblings have pretty much been limited to efforts here on the Board-but with encouragement from the fantatstic crew here-I amazed myself...yeah, actual coherent sentences and stuff!...go for it, you'll regret not trying...also, given your location-contact some of the numerous production houses or broadcast outlets and offer to do some voice work for them-free, so as to hone your skills before trying to tackle the somewhat narrow field of audio-book voice talent...best of luck to ye!...

Kim, if you have a desire to write, then do so and don't worry about how others would judge it. Do it for the enjoyment of writing. If you don't have a desire to write, use what King says in On Writing to help the aspiring writers in your classes.

Kim, you've missed one of hte important things here on the message board. Your first post is always supposed to be focused on the fact that on page 354 of Dolores Claiborne she lifts the lid of the old well with her left hand, but she's righthanded, or that on page 22 of Roadwork, SK mentions arc-sodium lights even though everybody knows the Midwest used mercury vapor, and that you can't believe he would make such a stupid error. Then we all get to trash you. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? ;-)

The free voice work is a fantastic idea...even as I was reading some mythology to the students today, a passing teacher poked her head in and said, 'Wow...you have a great, soothing reading voice!" (Also, my rowdy, 4th period, full of rapscallions--33 in all--was silent). Thanks for the advice.

Hey i think you should not give up until you have tried it. May be stephen's book made you laugh but that does not stop you from writing.
You should pen down your experience or share your thoughts without even thinking about the result.
Have faith in yourself and post your written work here online.
Hope to see a positive reply from your side.
