Read this on the net the other day, posted by some girl:
"They handcuffed me and said - everything you say will be held against you.-
So I said " Johnny Depp"".
:D
I first saw him way back in "Nightmare on Elm St." but it wasn't until "Benny & Joon" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" that I started realizing the guy could really act.
I just read that he broke up with his longtime girlfriend and the mother of thier 2 children. Shame.
forgot the link.

I actually remember this as it was in London. It was reported on our local news.

My earliest memory of him was probably in Edward Scissorhands. Mr Depp seems to work well with Tim Burton as he has starred in a few of his films. Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow and of course the before mentioned Edward Scissorhands, without checking I think he also did a voice for one of Burton's Animated films, The Corpse Bride.
I like him, I like the Pirate Films.
Thankfully my wife doesn't drool over him too much, she prefers Mr Pitt!
I really dig things like "The Ninth Gate," and Depp made what could otherwise have been an Art Flop very good. Maybe it was an art flop. I've stopped paying attention to "how many stars" something gets.
There was one scene where Depp was listening to a phone call from actor Frank Langella that was really, really, really, really, really scary...all props to Langella for that scene. That was a peepants phone call. Depp does a perfect "deer-in-the-headlights" with a touch of humor.
He's a great actor!
Although the odd thing is, I swear he never ages.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
The Ninth Gate
From Hell
Blow
Sleepy Hollow
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Crybaby
Ed Wood
Secret Window
The Libertine
Johnny Depp is uber-cool in my books. Loved him in Sleepy Hollow, Secret Window, and most recently The Tourist. Was pretty good in the Pirate series.
