That`s what he said he is listening to lately.
And he said it`s close to a masterpiece.

Yeah, a masterpiece that was easy to make when you steal from one of the best masters on the guitar of them all, Joe Satriani.

And it`s official - Joe is sueing them.

Check it out, what do you say ?

Hey Srbo-- i posted the link on the lassuit in the Music thread last week. It certainly sounds the same, but is it exactly?

I am not qualified to say, I have to leave that up to the musicians. But don't most musicians borrow from previous? What constitutes copyright infringement for music? Everyone has played the same notes, is it melody, 15 notes in a row? what is the logical proof of copying for infringement?

In this one the melody sounds very much like Satriani's. IMO.

I'm so glad he likes Coldplay - we had 'Yellow' as our first dance when we got married last year (me and my husband that is - not me & Steve)!

I'm not a big Coldplay fan, but what I've heard is far more stomacheable then most music coming out these days. Sad that they apparently copied something without permission, and if found guilty they should pay the price - BUT I don't think it discounts the worth of the rest of their music... as long as it's original or credited.

The long and short of it: Music's gone SO far downhill in the last 10 (ok, more like 30) years, I don't think we can afford to lose even one semi-decent band. JMHO

The YouTube video shows pretty clearly that Coldplay's version is an almost exact duplication. It wasn't just one phrase. It goes on for a length of time.

I would be interested to see how it's played out in the courts. Nice music. I see why SK likes it.

One of my favorites bands. I do think they stole that song though. My favorite song of theirs is In My Place.

I like a bit of their older stuff and I thought the Violet Hill single was nice. Meh, I've kinda drilled myself into turning away from current popular music. I'm stuck in the 60s and 70s. There's plenty upon plenty of great bands from those eras to keep me entertained.

Ugh Coldplay has put out two terrible albums in a row.

Their first two however were pretty damn awesome.

I was fortunate enough to catch them at the Riv for their 3rd north American show and it was awesome seeing this fresh band play great music.

Now I cant stand their stuff.

Hi,

Not a great favourite of mine (apart from Yellow), but you must have led a very sheltered life LOL. (No disrespect intended).

Mucho discussion on this subject in the Social Group called Great Music - All very welcome.

Long days and pleasant nights

As for the possible plagiarism, perhaps it just so happens that subconsciously Martin copied that part, thinking he thought of it while in fact he heard it while falling asleep or something...:D

Well, I liked My Sweet Lord by George Harrison. The fact that he was sued and lost a suit because it was too much like "He's so Fine" doesn't change my mind.

I'm not up to speed on this case, whether it's a clear-cut case of intentional plagiarism or just unconscious similarity, but either way, I think there's nothing wrong with liking the song regardless. (I liked the Truman Show, and despite being pretty convinced it was stolen, I still like it:blush:)

:eek2: Worst ever...wow i think there are many other worlds than these maybe you are from one where there is only coldplay and bands like zepplin, Pink Floyd MEtallica, etc?

Cause in this world there are a million worse IMO....

I think the only Coldplay song I actually enjoy is Violet Hill (off of their new album). Coldplay isn't really my style, and they don't seem too original.

It certainly is going to be interesting seeing how they got a grammy for this. Imagine the money that has been made.

Whoa! that's a little harsh. don't get me wrong, i listen to very little of that genre, but i'm pretty sure there are a million worse bands out there today.

They probably don't seem very original now. most, after their first or second record, get to be very predictable, or mundane, largely due to, imo, the record companies pushing them to sing what THEY want to sell. IT's hard to tell someone that you won't sing it when they have your paycheck in their hands.

All in all, i don't think that coldplay is that bad. not my cup of tea, but not bad at all. didn't SAI King mention something about Metro Stations "shake it" as well? lol.. now that is something i cannot believe!

Went to see them in concert a couple of weeks ago and they were truly amazing to see live. Chris Martin is hilarious and the drummer has a beautiful voice. They did an acoustic set in the middle of the concert which was mindblowing. it was so refreshing to go to a concert where there was no special effects or elaborate stage sets - just a band playing to a huge audience. They did a couple of quirky things to break it up but other than that - just song after song.... Best concert I have ever been to.

I'd love to see them in concert, especially in a smallish venue.
