Hi all......In September this year i decided to set my self the challenge of reading all stephen's novels, back -to-back. I wondered if anyone else had set themself this mammoth task and completed it or is on the road to completing it........I have read around 15 so far.....what are your favorites? :smile2:

Welcome to the board!

I've never set out on a mission to do so but I gravitate back to Sai King quite frequently. Since joining this board, I've read pretty much nothing but SK. I really enjoy discussing the books with the folks here.

You'll find many helpful and friendly reading groups in the social forums on specific books. They often contain spoilers so be careful. But please check them out and feel free to join... Hope to see you there!

You have set before yourself an awesome journey. You are envied. My favorites are Salem's Lot, The Stand, Duma Key....Oh, poo, it's hard to pick a favorite from such an abundance of glorious wordage. Enjoy your journey.

And yet they both knew, of course. They were not alone.

Good luck and good reading to you. With the exception of the latest book, 'Just After Sunset', which I own but am only going to start reading tonight, I have read all of SK's novels. I have favourites and one that I have not gotten up the nerve to read again. I did a reread of the Dark Tower series this year and it was amazing. When I finish JAS, I plan to start another massive reread, while still remembering to include other books as well.

Have fun!

Hi pagantallie i'm doing the very same, i'm currently on the 30th book (Rose Madder) and i'm leaving the Dark Tower series until last, its definitely a mammoth task but reading them in order is the best way in my opinion.

I've enjoyed a few now but my favourites so far include The Shining, The Stand, The Dead Zone, The Long Walk, Cujo, Misery, Dolores Claiborne and Insomnia

Hi,

Storm of the Century is the screenplay, but I don't know the other two, I suggest you check the link that Srbo's posted.

Hey. I am also doing the same thing (although I had previously read them all, so it's more of a back-to-back re-reading) - currently on The Talisman, which is as good as I remembered. I think my favourites on this go-round have been Pet Sematary and The Stand, but I'm sure this will change as the project goes on! I'm also blogging my thoughts on each book (I would add a link, but need to post more!), which is an excellent distraction from work, as well as forcing me to focus my mind on the books in question. Anyway, keep up the good work, don't have nightmares...

Don't forget to read his short story collections, and novellas, too. Some of Stephen King's shorter works are truly beautiful. The Body is probably one of my favourites. :-)

I can't say that I read them back to back, or in order, but yes, I have read them all. And because of the Dark Tower my list of re-eads keeps growing. I have about 300 pages left in my Dark Tower re-read and then I think I might re-read Insomnia. It will be a long journey for you, having not read them all, but I do envy you for the experiences and discoveries that await you. Enjoy!

Cool idea, but don't rush! Make sure each book has enough time to be enjoyed. They deserve it, because most of them are very very good. Have a good time with them! My favorites are Dolores Claiborne, Duma Key, IT, and Salem's Lot.

I`m reading my 15th SK book right now, but I don`t think I`ll read them all, because I don`t like short stories very much and he has a lot of short stories collections. Anyway, I`ll probably read all the rest someday because I love to read, (I`m always reading something) and I don`t like to change of author until I have read every interesting from him (before reading Stephen I read 60 Agatha Christie`s novels).

The DT series had such an impact on me, I wish I would have waited to read my next book. I know it is fiction, but Roland and his ka-tet became so much a part of my daily
thoughts while I was reading about them, that I miss them!
May sound crazy but true none the less. So in answer to your question, no I am not going to power read his works, but I am certainly going to read them all, say thankya!

Just to let you know, ItaliaQueen, Tot is a German version of one of the Dark Tower series, and Wahn is a German version of Duma Key. :eyebrow:

I've been doing the same thing. I just started the Dark Tower series which is the last thing other than Rose Madder and The Eyes of the Dragon I have to complete. That includes all of the novellas, short stories, and even sercret windows and his EW columns. My favorite book of all time is IT and I have yet to be truly let down by any of his books. I can't wait to finish but at the same time don't look forward to having no new King to be read. Although I'll probably go back and start over.

Yes, I've done it. I finished when From a Buick 8 was new. In between releases I started reading other authors.

i have. just finished as a matter of fact and am now keeping up with the comic books for monthly installments of king until his next big work. i started reading his books when i was 11. i was 24 when i started reading the tower series. it wasnt until i was done with those that i realized i had missed out on a lot of stuff i had already read. so i went back and did it all in order, and it was the best thing i could of done! i recommend highly reading all kings works in order.

Reading this post brought a smile to my face.:smile2: It's great to know that there are so many of us who are beginning our journey as Constant Readers, and I'm thrilled to be a part of that journey. As for myself, I too started reading Stephen King Novels in September. After reading 'Salem's Lot and The Stand: The Complete & Uncut Edition (recommended by my wife), I decided to start with Carrie and read them all in chronological order (while keeping up with new King releases). I'm also posting reviews on my blog for each book after completing them. So far I've read Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, and The Stand: The Complete & Uncut Edition. Tonight, once I get off of this board, I will finish Just After Sunset. Lastly, I too am working to collect all of Stephen King's works in hardcover first print/first editions. I've already accumulated 10 of them.

We have something in common, because I've also read some 40 of Agatha Christie's novels (Hercule Poirot being a masterpiece character)! Seeing as how you live in Argentina, habla algo de espańol? :grinning:

Same here (except my reviews will be on my Goodreads account). I am going to read them all in chronological order, including the ones I've read already, excepting the DT; I'll reread that one at the last. I'm reading some other stuff as well, though. I usually like to alternate: one SK book, one other, one SK book, one other, etc.

I think you'd find it interesting to read Salem's Lot while Dracula was fresh in your mind.

i have been reading king since i was about 9 years old ( i started with Tommyknockers) and he is all i have read since. back-to-back-to-back. everything. over, and over again. i love all his books, and especially the way he entwines all of them together in some way or another. for example, walter tells mordred, "Bool!! The End", and that is also one of scotts stories, in "liseys story". it never ceases to blow my frigin mind!!!

Have read most of his books over the past 30 some odd years, many several times, they are just that good, as all here will attest to. DT has to be favorite of course. Salem's Lot the first book I read and the scariest IMO. Maybe that had to do with my being much younger at the time. Can't go wrong with any of them. Duma Key, Lisey' Story,
well basically anything he has written. You are in for quite a ride.

Was this the first time through Stoker's Dracula? Man had his way with words, didn't he? The visit by the sisters kept me up nights after I read that passage.:oo:

So far, the body is one of many faves - it, the stand, 'salems lot, The shining, pet semetary and thinner.

I'm still on the road, have about 4 compilation books to go and 16 novels incl. the dark tower series. plus 3 of bachman's and his 2 non fiction danse macabre and on writing.

I'm enjoying it immensley!

Hi,

And so you should, what a treat(s) you have in front of you - you will!

Keep us informed as you read them and there are Social Groups for many of the books, but don't open them till you've finished the book (spoilers abound).

It's a great idea, but I would warn against one thing... burn-out.

I guess people are different, but I find that I'll read the hell out of 5 or 6 of his books, and the desire to read (either SK books or books in general) fades, and I'll go a few months of either barely reading, or not at all.

For me, it's hot and cold, and sad to say, I'm in a bit of a cold spell right now. I'm taking a long time to finish up The Dark Half. I had just finished the DT series for the second time, and I'm a little worn out.

This one of my goals as well, as is owning all his books in hardcover. I want the Bachman books that have Richard Bachman as the author, not SK.

My problem is, do I go about reading them alphabetically, or in the order he published them?

I have yet to read the DT series, but after Black House and The Talisman I'm looking forward to them.

I too keep track of books read on Goodreads.
