I'd never read anything by him before I started to work for him. My first assignment was through a temp agency to type the manuscript for The Eyes of the Dragon. I did a good job and when he needed someone to work for him a couple years later, I was contacted to see if I would be interested. Obviously that was a yes. It will be 20 years on November 1st that I've been working for him.

Uuuuuuh! Lot of time! You are a veteran on the matter then Ms.Mod! You must typewrite very fast! Not like most of us that use just two fingers, LOL! (but I'm fast with my thumbs)

Congratulations! Not a lot of people either enjoy their job enough or have the "stick-to-it-ness" to have and hold a "job" I'd say career in your case for that amount of time. That's really great, makes me want to find something I really love too.

Hi,

Looks like a great excuse for a combined party then on the 1st.

Music from Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (It was twenty years ago today.....)

THAT was a very important little nexus of time (Ka?) for Ms Mod, Kim and mstay.

Anyone else? And what IS it for a 20th?

Why did you take the job though? Not the manuscript one, typing stuff up is simple enough, and a job is a job...

But if you don't even read the guys works, how'd you have any interest in him at all? Was it because he was such a big name, and you knew it would be a paycheck... I mean, you obviously like the guy and have an alliance with him that goes beyond your paycheck. Just one thing led to another, er...?

I like King because of his works. I feel a lot of what he's created, nobody will really care about in a hundred or so years, but that's why I like him so much. He's writing for me, and my generation, right now. And not many other authors really go in that direction.

Plus, I haven't ever read anything he's written or created that went against how I feel.

Ooooooo... that means you got to read Eyes of the Dragon before anyone else ever did. Lucky girl. :0)

Soooo, you just met the guy after doing a little work for him, and you two just had a symbiotic work relationship, and it built up from there?

BlackThorn, I took the temp job because I was 7 months pregnant and we needed money, and the idea of working on a job for Stephen King sounded pretty interesting. I should clarify that The Eyes of the Dragon had already been published as a limited edition but it needed to be retyped to send to Penguin for the mass market publication. After finishing that, I typed Tommyknockers which was in manuscript format. The two jobs took me 2 months working part-time to finish so I got to know Steve a little then and his other staff and really enjoyed the job. When they called later, it also had to do with needing the money to help out the family budget which had by then increased by one more with my last child. But I also knew it was a job I would enjoy doing because of the people I'd be working with. In some ways it was probably better NOT to be a huge fan prior to working there as I could do my job without being a fan girl.

I suggest a Kevlar sun bonnet from now on.
