Just got threw reading Eyes of the dragon. Great book! Not too long. Sort of like a childs fairy tale. (Although I don't think I would read this to my kid before bed) lol. I love the artwork in it. Flagg is a magickal wizard in this wearing a long cowl robe carrying a wizards staff making poisions and killing people in the kingdom. Not wanting to Rule completletley but wanting to control whoever is the king at the time. The end was cool but I know Flagg always seems to "dissapear" at the end lol. Never seems to quite die. I do not think Flagg can be killed. Hmmm I think I will go to the Dark Tower books again. I have not read a couple of them. I am especially wanting to read the ones with Flagg in them. Which ones might that be? I know Wizard and Glass (excellent book) is one of them. Anyway I give this book 4 stars and 2 thumbs way up. I own the stand so I loved seeing flagg in this too. The crimson king aka R.F. also makes a small appearance In Insomnia but the form he takes makes me crack up! Hmmmm.. makes me wonder if flagg used his kid and a friend for characters in this story... who would be his inspiration for Flagg? muhahahaha :bat:

hmmm, i think you may be a little confused. it seems you are implying that Flagg is the Crimson King but that is not the case. he is an agent of the Crimson King but not the King himself. as to which DT books Flagg appears in, it depends on which persona you want to see him as. he is in almost every book, but not always as Flagg.

Did you read The Dark Tower books (the ones you've read) in order? I highly suggest that you do that, everything will seem a lot clearer. Also: The Crimson King is not Flagg, they are two entirely different characters.

I see you are wondering if Flagg can die; if you read all of the Dark Tower books, you will find out

I'm usually not a fan of fantasy books, but I really did enjoy this one. A different style then usual from King, but a welcomed one.

He was also in Wastelands, which is where he rescues the Tick Tock man

I just started The Eyes of The Dragon. It is one of the few Stephen King books that I haven't already read...
I am only on page 115, but I am thrilled so far!!! I had to force myself to put it down because Friday is errand day for me. But I know how my weekend will be spent now! Curling up on the sofa with Eyes of The Dragon...
I wish I would have discovered this one years ago. It's good to see Flagg again. That is one fascinating character...
I had taken a break from King's work to catch up on another series I am reading. I'd almost forgotten how different it is to pick up an SK novel... Sometimes reading is just reading. And other times (as with Sai King) it is more like gliding through a cloudless ski, or dancing in the rain...
"It" has always been my all-time favorite. But I have a sneaking suspicion that, after this weekend, "The Eyes of The Dragon" will slip into that Number 1 spot.
If you haven't read this treasure yet - please go find a copy today!!!!!!!!! :smile2:

King just had a hankering to write a good ol' uncomplicatedly enjoyable fantasy tale.
I think he nailed it. Not too long, not too short. The porridge was the perfect temperature, and better yet, Goldilocks did more than just escape the bears.
High art? No.
In the (evervariable) list of my 25 Favorites? Yes, and there for a while, I imagine.

Yes, but a DARK fairytale. And as for Flagg, I always liked him best in The Stand.

Hi,
As he wrote it for his daughter when she was thirteen, I'm nurturing a hope that he might return when his grandchildren are of a similar age.

I feel as if I got a deeper sense of what Flagg is by reading both The Stand and Through the Eyes of the Dragon.
My sense of Flagg is that he is a creature outside of time for one reason-his master the Crimson King sits atop the nexus of whens and wheres and can send him anywhere/when. He is Roland's ever constant antagonistic and as such the Crimson Kings must be able to send him to whatever when/where to create chaos and keep Roland from his goal of reaching the top and usurping the power of the Crimson King and saving the Dark Tower. I feel as if the story Through The Eyes of the Dragon(which is told in a very Irish folk-sing-songy fashion) is a representation of a different when/where where Roland actually became King. I feel the name of the country he rules, Delain, is too similar to the DT Roland whose last name is Deschain. Some make think is it a bit of a stretch, but if Flagg is involved, I feel that the Crimson King would go to any lengths necessary to kill or thwart any form or reincarnation of Roland and would send him. Both books insinuated that Flagg is here and there whenever something was good was needing to be ruined, so why wouldn't the Crimson King send him to Delain to destroy one more Roland in the nexus of time.?

without giving anything away...is roland of 'eyes...' meant to be like an alternate dimension version of DT roland?

No, not in the least. The Roland in "Eyes" is definitely NOT a gunslinger.

just because Roland isn't a gunslinger in one when doesn't mean he has to be one in another. There are millions of combinations of whens and wheres along the nexus of the Dark Tower. SK reuses Roland's name multiple times....think in some way they have small ties to one another....maybe its a big assumption but why would he reuse that name so often? All purposes serve the beam.....

well that's why i ask - because they're not the same type of character AT ALL...and yet they have almost the same exact name. anyone know anything on this?

Roland the gunslinger, however, is aware of Delain. He makes mention of the last dragon being killed in a kingdom far away (as well as, I believe, Thomas and Dennis), in reference to Eyes of the Dragon. So while Eyes of the Dragon seems to take place in the same world as Roland's Gilead, he is definitely not the king in that story. Flagg is, of course, the same, but not Roland.

I did not want to start a new thread for a simple question. In another forum we are discussing the 1/1 and BCE of this book. Anyone here have a link or own the BCE that is willing to show a few pics? Thanks in advance.

I really love this book. I read this over 15 years ago and ever so often go back and read it again. You really understand how diverse King is when you can read Dolores Claiborne and then read Eyes of the Dragon. I wish someone would adapt this into a screenplay, it sure would blow Harry Potter out of the water.

I finally finished this book and loved the story. I love the characters in the story. Peter, Ben Staad, Naomi, Frisky, Thomas, Flagg, Anders Penya, all great characters. I love the ending of the story. Flagg disappears and Thomas, son of Roland, vows to hunt him down. I just get a great sense of connection through all of Steve's books that I don't get many other places! The ending made me think of the tower and showed me how badly I needed to read The Stand and have just started The Stand! I can't wait to see Flagg in this story!
