A deeply felt, intimate story that's creepy as hell. Hooks me every time.

I read somewhere that it was the "King-type thriller of the present day". Any truth to that? (If it even makes sense, of course).

I loved the dark feeling that comes over you as the story progresses. It gives a feeling of dread then a lightness towards the end. The characters were real feeling and it made you love them or hate them.

This was my first King book, and it's the book that all others have been judged by. It's a great story about love & loss. It also has the classic King ending. Not happily ever after, but might be alight after a wile.

:smile2: I read the book awhile ago and liked it. Check out the synopsis. Go to the KIng main web page, click on his works, click on written works and then click on Bag of Bones. This may help you decide.

I love it because I haven't been really CREEPED OUT by a book in a long time... I mean I'm really jaded. this one did it though. in fact I don't even want to think about it right now because it's late at night and I'm alone in the living room. brrrrrr.

Bag Of Bones -
Let's see..... Written with such detail for textures, sights, smells, sounds....lots of sounds.
Feelings that things are so bad, how can they get any worse... BUT THEY DO.
Loved it.
Long days and pleasant nights.

I think it's a perfect story, really strong and amazingly written and for me it's one of the scariest books ever. I recommend!

I just loved this story. Each of King's books has a very distinct mood, and the mood this book portrayed was so beautifully sad. He really has a way of expressing loss from a character's perspective, and my heart just wept for the main character. I also love ghost stories, and this one is mild compared to some others (like the Shining). It's creepy enough without getting too ghastly. It's one of my favorites of his.:biggrin2:

One of my favourites too and my all time favourite for audio books read by the author himself. Something about his voice - he KNOWS what they're supposed to sound like. It's about time to listen to it again . . .

Each book should be judged on its own merit, despite critics' efforts to pigeonhole it.

A must read book. Depth of characters, story line, SK as the writer.... says it all. Read on.

It's rather redundant for me to say it is my favourite by King, in a way each book of his is my favourite when I take it for a reading again. This one is certainly a masterpiece! Also, finding out what happened in the end with Thad Beaumont really got to me...

It was my first Stephen King book, and I loved it. I had really just started to read as a hobby, and up to that point I did not believe that a book could scare me. Bag of Bones proved me wrong. It was creepy, but not in an overwhelming way, and it was also very heartfelt.

I am 3/4 of the way through BOB for the 2nd time, and since it's been awhile since I'd read it, it's almost a new read. I had forgotten how wonderful that book is...it's lovely, creepy and sad all at the same time. Definitely one of my favorites. Thoughts?

This was a good and scary book. Read it about 2 years ago. It was a little suprise for me when I read the book and find out that Mike's wife Johanna who died in the beginning, has same name that I have.

You have everything, chemistry, supernatural and human evil at work, time travel, and of course its Castle Rock. Plus you get re-acquainted with Ace Merrill as the oldest living person in Castle Rock.

It's a great book, but out of all of Mr. King's books that I've read I found this one the most shocking. But od course -I won't tell you why before you read it :biggrin2:

For sure one of my all-time favorite books. I was very much impressed. It's completely unpredictable and real scary. Some of my favorite sK things are his descriptions of dreams, which you'll find in Bag of Bones, along with so much else!

I also liked the way Stephen could meld the modern elements such as technology (Apple Powerbook) into the story. He reminds me very much of his son, Joe Hill. Fiction for the new millennium indeed.

This was one of those King books I couldn't put down. When this book first came out, I remember going to the grocery store to shop and passed the book aisle. I literally stopped shopping, picked up that book and stood there and read more pages. I hated putting it down. It's a fantastic story.

I have to say this is one of the ones I don't want to reread. I read Insomnia and I realize that King has this pattern of writing about widowers that team up with single mothers. In this story I really didn't care also for the treatment of Sara or the way he seemed to overdo her "attack." It just came across as vulgar to the max rather than subtle.

Indeed - one of King's best. I highly recommend the audiobook which King narrates himself. Extremely well done.

It's a very powerful book. I t hard some of the hardest scenes I've ever read on Mr. King's books, but it's a good story and will leave you with a longlasting impression.

All right, I just finished this over the weekend. I was completely engrossed in this book and found it incredibly hard to put down. I was absolutely in love with Mike, Mattie and Ki. They were like friends to me. But, around page 600 or so. I was so upset that I had to finally put that book down and was unable to pick it back up for a day and a half. I almost cried. And Im a guy. As soon as I finished it up, with its almost happy ending behind me, I wanted to pick it back up and read it again. I don’t think this has ever happened to me while reading a book. Before this book I just finished IT, and in my opinion this one dwarfs that one in readability.

Ace wasnt in tghis book was he? I thought the guys name was Royce Merrill and he was the oldest resident of the TR. Something like 90 years old. I could be mistaken.

Personally, I absolutely loved it from start to finish. It was genuinly frightening, original, emotionally complex, twisted, and just a darn good read. I loved the characters; each were so different and I loved how they were easy to memorize (one of the problems I had with "Insomnia"). And best of all, it was unpredictable. It's my favorite book of all time. I hope you enjoy it.

You must read bag of bones. It is a proper old fashioned ghost story. With reasons for everything. And a proper ending. Read and enjoy

try reading it and you'll see.
Before I've read it I found a synopsis somewhere and it didn't sound very tempting but after I picked up the book and actually started reading it, I was hooked pretty fast.

I had a hard time getting into this one at first, too. But I just re-read it, and loved the whole thing, maybe I just didn't give it a fair chance.

What I liked about Bag of Bones was that it was an honest to goodness ghost story that was totally believeable with very interesting characters and a narrative you will not be able to put down. Read and enjoy.
