well.... I was going to bring up mud-wrestling, my Miroku 12 bore over and under shotgun, and the plight of the Tibetans... but it seemed a little heavy for the thread ....

Hi,

It would be a lot easier (and considerably less painful!) to change society to a more hair tolerant one IMO.

If you don't like the view, move where you're standing kinda thing, if you see what I mean?

Or am I completey wrong?

Long days and pleasant nights

Well I asked my hunny, "What do I do for you that you really like." The sweetheart said, "I like that you scratch my back whenever I ask. That you always tell me you love me even when your mad. And that you make my life better." Awwww, I think I'm going to go scratch his back now.

Jogging shirtless in The Hamptons- Long Island, N.Y.- Is prohibited (for a guy)...
cus who wants to see man boobs or Manneries?
Yet being topless (for a woman) in the subway (the train not the resteraunt) is not
But why would any woman do that?

Ms. Arista- I gotta tell ya...there are some folks I don't think neither you nor I will ever understand. (Or even want to :oo: ) I guess all would be okay when you are young and the girls are still perky, I don't want to even think iwhat it will do to couples relationships ( a lot of men can't help ogle a nice bosom that's covered up much less a pair going au natural). And as we get older and we all will we are going to need, want support.

Oh come on, there is great joy in being able to go to the beach topless, even if you are in an area where you have to go to the other side of the lake to avoid the family crowd. Starkers is fun too. Nothing chafes and there's always some appreciative person who accidentally happens upon what you think is your own private cove. Nudity is not the end of the world, and neither is an imperfect body.

We (Me and my boy, my brother and sister in law with son and daughter) went to a new part of the beach . There was a man laying on his tummy soaking up the sun. He was a beautiful golden brown, skin glistening... and then he stood up...he was wearing what the boys referred to as a "banana hammock"...You should have see the look on all of our faces. (Jaw on chest, eyes bugged out, no noise, no breathing). Then he turned around...buttocks so "defined" and "muscular" they must have been implants with a wee string dissappearing into nether regions...we left and went to the hotel swimming pool. We were all traumatized.

What 1 thing do you do special for your man ? Men think we have to do the ironing, clean for him and etc.. So here is the place to say what is on your mind and tell the men to do things for himself.
Debbie

I guess the Special Thing that I have done for my husband (besides the cooking/cleaning/using my salary to buy appliances and household accessories) is to help him in his work.
When he is editing for pay, I go over the material and point out things that need to be corrected and comments that need to be placed to explain why corrections/additions/deletions need to be implemented, as well as suggesting areas that should be more fully covered, or covered from a different viewpoint, or deleted as being non-relevant.
I have been good at coming up with good arguments, and his boss has had him run committee proposals by me before the meetings so that I can come up with any arguments they need to support their points. I am good with coming up with interlacing disciplines and giving concrete reasons for various arguments.
Several of their divisions at work were saved from the scrap heap because I had effective arguments for their existence and how they complemented and supplemented other divisions, and were therefore needed.
So. What I am good at helping my husband with is practical stuff...making mental connections, and seeing not only the big picture, but the cells that are joined to make the whole work. He doesn't see that kind of thing. It's ok. He takes my arguments and wins for his group, and he gets the credit, and they kindly leave me out of it. I like it that way.
I think that promoting him publicly and privately has been the most important thing I have done for him.
I'm a really good cook...but that is very private.
He likes positive public attention and rewards. What I do really helps satisfy him and his ego, and it is something that no one else can do for him.
The downside is that I use definitive arguments at home for household improvements, etc. That is another thing, altogether. That is called "nagging." : )

These are my favorite scents - Pleasures by Estee Lauder and Romance by Ralph Lauren. I think they are both light scents, yet they do last, and it doesn't take much!! I have pretty much stuck to them for years, because they are not heavy. It is the worst to walk by someone or have someone walk by you who has taken a bath in their perfume!! Hi,

Interesting what effects perfumes may have on us.

When I first met my wife I thought she smelled wonderful (Chanel No. 5) and t certainly attracted me but it was only by chance many years later that I discovered that my mum had used Chanel No. 5 soap and talcum etc with me when I was a baby.

So I've wondered just how much the memory of the perfume was imprinted on me as a baby.

Used to have a horrible time getting jeans (and pants and skirts) to fit me. I'm built like an inverted triangle: broad back, no particular waist to speak of, slim hips, thin legs. The opposite of how women are "supposed" to be shaped. What fit at the waist ballooned at the hips, what fit at the hips wouldn't zip closed. Finally figured it out when low-rise jeans became fashionable: I wear petite on the bottom, regular on top! I also got to know a lady who does alterations, a real lifesaver for when I feel like a freak of nature. Most dresses don't fit me, but I can rock almost any pair of jeans.

Today's woman only topic...Gossip. There is a group of women who get together in the break room. Well, apparently the gossip has gotten pretty bad-a Memo was issued today regarding having courtesy to others in the breakroom. Can't women just get together and talk without gossip??? I wonder if it was a bunch of guys sitting around would it be considered gossip? & More importantly -Who has time to just sit around and gossip?? Thank you for listening to the poignant rant.

Long days and pleasant nights

As I said, I have been wearing White Shoulders since I was a teen.
I nursed my son for a year and even now he refers to my perfume as the Momma smell! :cool2:

I posted somewhere about gossip. How everyone in the office gets along and treats each other nice and friendly. Then that person (man/woman) comes and tells me about "Joe" having a drinking problem, and "Jane" who is promiscuous, and so and so who does this and is that. Then goes and talks to Joe, and Jane and everyone else all buddy-buddy.
I wait for them to finish their "report" then I ask, "What do you tell other people about me behind my back?"
That usually stops that person coming to me with their forked tongue.
And I agree with you-if men are talking is it just talking but when women talk is it "gossip"?

Does anyone get "jealous" when a husband/boyfriend remarks how wonderful some other woman (mom, sister, co-worker, neighbor) cooks?

I used to get jealous when my husband did that, in the beginning of our marriage, then later I felt it was unnecessary to feel that way. I decided if I like what the "other woman" makes, I'll ask how they make it so I can try it out myself, sometimes I can make it, sometimes I can't. I've come to conclusion that not everyone is perfect, so I shouldn't try to be so. It makes life a lot easier to live, not being so competitive.

Ugh that annoys me so much when people say that!
I'm not really a very feminine person, but that's partly because I really really hate the idea of being thought of as one of those cliquey gossipy girls who says things like "if you loved me you would know". (it's also partly because... well, I'm just not really a very feminine person :p)
Just cause someone's in love doesn't mean they're psychic! Sure, it means you know each other better. But it doesn't mean you suddenly turn into mind readers.

Totally agree with Petrollika... I hate when people do that. I especially hate that in most films it's the women doing that. Come on now, I'm a woman and I have never used the whole "you should already know why I'm mad" line. Guys have a hard enough time understanding us, why the hell would we try and make them read our minds?

My hubby loves me, and he never knows unless I tell him....he's a friggin' awesome man, but a mind reader? I think not! It doesn't kill me to just explain what's wrong...sometimes it's just that I'm having a bad day, and how is he supposed to know that when he's having a fantastic day? There's this little word we both like to put into practice...communication. It's a wonderful thing. More people need to utilize it, methinks.

And as far as the gals that actually pull the "you should already know why I'm mad" crap? I do believe they need to get over themselves.

Then again, I'm the kind of female that thinks girls are weird, and doesn't understand them at all...and thinks guys are awesome and interesting and so refreshingly uncomplicated. So I dunno if my opinion counts or not! :biggrin2:

I worked at a large grocery store and the guys there (employees) had a code so whenever a female got onto the frozen food section and got 'cold' and they showed the nearest guy would get to the intercome and say something like, "We have a double o in aisle X" and as many of the guys possible would get themselves to that aisle. I hate padded bras, too, because I was blessed (???) by Mother Nature, but padded bras are just uncomfortable to me, since I already have so much there. Haha. So, I very rarely wear one that is padded, I prefer just plain cotton ones that are comfy. Have you ever gone to a department store and wondered why the sizes seem so off...I learned from What not to wear last nite. The sizes were determined by the Dept of Better Business in 1965...Is it no wonder that they seem so not true to size?? Women have changed a lot size wise since 1965.

Moderator
January 5th, 2011, 01:38 PM
And why can't they be more consistent about sizing?! A size can vary widely from one brand to another even with shoes. I got a rather nasty shock when my daughter and I went shopping for bridal and mother-of-the-bride dresses. According to the staff at the stores, they size them smaller, so you have to buy a bigger (and sometimes a lot bigger!) one than you wear in other off-the-rack stores. WTF? Talk about your conspiracies! My theory is they do it so brides (and bridesmaids) will go on diets when they see that larger size and then end up having to have the dresses altered (at quite a cost!) and they get a commission from the alteration people and diet industry. :biggrin2:

LadyPain
January 5th, 2011, 01:57 PM
Shoe shopping is a beyotch with the sizes. I usually go in and tell them my European size because it's more accurate than North American sizing. Shopping for pants is a nightmare. The sizing is probably the least consistent in pants. I have a pair of extra large velvet yoga pants that someone insisted on buying for me. Still can't get into them. Other pants the same 'size' fall off me. I'm thinking about turning the velvet pants into a pillow.

This is probably silly but I hope it's in the spirit of the thread. I love the generic Captain Crunch with Crunch Berries. There are more berries (my favorite part!), the flavor is better and you can buy it in a big bag for waaay less. My husband agrees that the flavor is better (and of course the price) but he doesn't like the berries, just the yellow pieces. It does not come in this particular generic without the berries. So I buy the big family bag of the cereal, then make him ziplock baggies full of just the yellow pieces - I pick all the berries out. That way he can open a baggie and have 1 bowlful of just the part he likes.

I posted this on an elder care site I go to sometimes, somebody had a story about a husband and father, that would take the burnt stuff, and it made me think of my Mama when I was growing up, and so this made me think of that, so I was thinkin' I would share it

Speakin' of burnt biscuits...Mmm mm!
Well ya know, we're not talkin' charcoal here, if they make the whole house smell like a The Smokey Da Bear Biscuit Bakery, and the fire department shows up, it's quite possible they might just be a tad burnt bit too daggum done...well, depending I suppose on ones tastes & sense of smell of course.

When I was just a mean little motor scooter with training wheels, Mama ate all those burnt biscuits...and toast, cookies, and even the supper meat that got waayyy too done.
She always said she liked it, loved it in fact, that it was the absolute bestest parts, and sometimes even alluded that she might have even over done 'em on purpose on the occasion, just so she could have what she wanted for a change, so you best keep your grubby hands off her burnt biscuits (or whatever) if you know what's good for ya!
Well hmmm, said I to my very self (why yes, yes I do talk to myself on the occasion, and find myself reasonably good company...eh, most times), if Mama likes burnt, it must be pretty freakin' good, as she's, well, Mama...I mean after all, she never had any compunction what-so-ever, in reminding my goofy silly self that she knew more than me (and always would come to think on it:glare:).
So I would all sneaky like, snag a burnt something or other when I could, when she actually burnt something that is, which really wasn't all too often as she was an excellently awesome professional cook.
So ya see, it almost became like a real treat, especially when I thought I was really gettin' one over on her, by gettin' my grubby little paws on some slightly blacked vittles first..oh yeah babes, I became a verrry clever booster of burnt offerings of all kinds, is what I'm here to tell ya:wink2:!

So life goes on, and I become quite the huge fan of crunchyfied grilled meats, toast that has no other colors in nature to match its darkend hues, and of course the flat out burnt on the bottom, Chevy rusted fender colored topped biscuits (that's an official Crayola color if I'm not mistaken...okay okay, but it should be) , and still am to this day.
Now not long after I was married, my wife, step daughter and I, started making weekend trips up to the city, to see Mama fairly regular and just hang out.
We'd go do all kinds of fun family things, but my most personal favorite thing, was getting some of my most favorite foods made just for me that I grew up with (you know, with that special Mama's touch, that ALL Mama's boys love to love:love:).
And oh my word was biscuits & sausage gravy on top o' that list!
You know what's comin' huh?...you can almost smell that burnt biscuit right now cain't ya ;-) ?...yep, me too!
Mama had just moved into her first single apartment, and hadn't got the handle of a that 'new confounded 'lectric oven' yet, thus a whole pan of biscuits plumb got toasted to the mosted...and *GASP* I caught her just as she was pitchin' 'em in the garbage!
HOLY SMOKED BISCUITS! Mama, what in the hell are ya doin':eek2:?!!!
"Whataya mean what am I doin', they're burnt, so I'm pitchin' 'em?"
But but but, you & me love burnt biscuits!
"I hate burnt biscuits, always have and always will, and I just figured that by now, just maybe you'd of finally got some sense of taste in your yappy pie hole, and done growed out it...but if you want, I can certainly pull 'em out of the trash for ya."
Mama, are you sayin' you NEVER liked burnt biscuits?
(I believe I shuttered...though it could just have easily been the universe..it could happen)
"Come on back to Earth boy, I had to eat 'em, that is until you started to take a likin' to 'em. You should know by now we couldn't afford to waste any food back then, now do you want me to pull 'em out of the trash for your silly dumb azzz or not, 'cause I sure ain't burnin' none for ya special, it stinks up the whole damn house!"
And by golly, I did (showed her huh?)!

Yyyep yep yep, hoodwinked by a five foot nothin', sparky little red headed, burnt biscuit bamboozler, yet once again!
You'll please have to excuse me now, I believe I smell me somethin' deeelicious burnin'!

I have to wear Earth tones....Red makes me look like I am trying out for the circus LOL

Thank you ladies! I was seeing all these commercials raving on and on about Ravishing Reds! lipstick/lipcolor. I don't have the coloring to wear red. And yes LadyPain, I tend toward mahogany, plum-ish tones.
Thanks again!

I cannot wear red either. I found the perfect shade for me years ago, it was called Raisin Glaze, it was as red as I could go, but more of a burgandy shade. It looked good on me, and I could wear it with everything. Then they discontinued the shade. I have tried other lipsticks with Raisin in the title, but they seem to all be more plum than red, have never found anything comparable to that shade since, not even by the same manufacturer. That is frustrating, too, to finally find the perfect shade and then all of a sudden it's gone, forever.

Red is a hard colour to wear. Not everyone CAN or should wear it. Sometimes a browner red or a plum-ier kind of red works if the classic true reds are wrong for you.

I agree!

I have a huge mouth and full lips, so usually if I wear red, it looks even bigger. There's only 1 shade that fits me, and it's the one I'm wearing in my profile picture. But I really LOVE red.

Red isn't my color either. I have tried various shades and they all look horrible. Must be my skin tone, because red clothes look really bad too. Although I love hot pink (not on my lips though lol) I noticed shopping for jeans was mentioned before, and I must say that I consider that the seventh level of HELL!

My lips are bright red anyway, I never bother with lipstick  a bit of Vaseline does me fine. It looks a bit odd though, I don't tan very easily at all (not to mention it's pretty hard with the Scottish sun) so I have bright red lips and glow in the dark white skin

Behind a Hindu temple on a mountain top in India, hiding from the rest of the group because there aren't really any public washrooms over there to speak of. There wasn't much space up on the mountain top for everything, so I was kind of closer to the back edge of the mountain top and the view was phenomenal.

The porta potties were a million miles away and stank all to be d*mned so I crawled into the back seat of our car and filled up an old paint can I found in the trunk. Thank god I had Kleenex. Never drank another beer out doors. (I was traumatized. My husband thought it was the funniest thing in the world.!)

Why is it that the women's line at big events is like a kagillion miles long and the line for the men's room so short?? Are men actually able to hold their bladder better than women?

Sigmund
March 1st, 2011, 10:41 AM
Ms. Arista-it's because usually the person(s) who are planning buildings are men. They figure X amount of toilets for men and the same amount for women. Don't take into consideration that men and women have different needs. It's getting a lot better. Most new public places have at least twice as many stalls for women than before. Finally.

I keep meaning to, but life just seems to get in the way :oh:
I used to have reeeeeeaally long hair - I could sit on it, and it was really thick, poker straight and dark brown. Then I got it cut short and the tips dyed red (ahead of the crowd, thank you very much  I was gonna dye it red again until I saw how many others have red hair - what's the point in looking unnatural if everyone else does?) and it wasn't until the dye faded that I realised how much I missed it. I keep attempting to grow it, but the hairdressers have other ideas. I found a photo of Joan Jett and I adore her hair, but I had a trainee cutting my hair so it's nothing like it. And the fringe was squint. I took a photo straight after I got home, here's the comparison vv (in spoiler tags, as the pictures are big)

I'll curl my hair wavy or Shirley Temple curls, iron in strait flipped up/under, parted on the side, midlle, combed straight back, up, down, pony tail, chignon, and scrunched. When I get tired of that I'll put on a black/brunette wig and mess with that. And the make-up. From bare faced to full make up. Different every few days. I don't really follow trends. I wear what I like and feel good in. I think that's how most women deal with the fashion industry. Plus so many of the fashions are made for stick thin girls...not real women. Now if I like a trend I'll go for it, or adjust it to fit my lifestyle.

The dresses....what did they do, kill a sheep and jump into the hide right away? Yuck! And the shoes....I'd rather go barefoot than wear shoes. I mean, sure, platforms make your legs look like they belong to a supermodel, but who wants to kill their arches? Comfort over fashion for me every day.

If you wanna tan without spray tan or something, brands do gradual moisturising lotions that give good results :) brands like dove and that are good.

April 26th, 2011, 03:54 PM
I've had spray tans before. I don't particularly care for them because I find spray tans and self-tanners do not have a pleasant scent. Also, when you bathe or shower, you cannot scrub too hard because it will come right off. There is also the problem of becoming streaky, especially on your hands. I used to tan in the tanning salon and I don't anymore for the obvious reason of skin cancer. Now, I just embrace my paleness. However, my best friend uses a self-tanner that she really likes. I commented on her tan one day because I was impressed with the results. It was very natural-looking. I will ask her and let you know the name of it.

The last one, Aveeno, is a lotion and tanner/bronzer that has a dial and you control the amount of tanner you want. Apparently, you can start off lightly and gradually move up to the tan you like.

This might be a tad too personal/delicate so I will wrap a spoiler around it.

Ladies, have you ever been living in close quarters with other women and find that slowly but, surely, you all wind up getting your 'time of month' around the sane time? It's called "synchronous menstruation".

How did that affect you? Or did it?
