I would really like to see The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon made into a movie. I read it when I was a teenager, and it has some of Steve's classic twisted avenues in it.

I'd love to see Desperation (was that ever made into a movie and if so was it any good?... We didnt get it here).
Bag Of Bones would be terrific if done right, Eyes Of the Dragon, The Dark Tower.... and Cell.
I'll probably think of a few more but those for now would be cool.

I would love it if they made Bag of Bones. I absolutely loved the book, and I think the concept is simple enough where it would translate well on film. Although I loved the book, I don't think Rose Madder would work much. I think it could be really cheesy if not done right since the concept is a bit complicated. It might not even make sense to some if whoever wrote the script tried to be too literal, since I think there's a lot of symbolism within the painting.
I am praying someone out there gets the rights to make a Dark Tower series. I can totally see it being on HBO or something, since I think the series is too long to fit in maybe a three nighter or something. I can see it lasting maybe 7 seasons, each season being one of the books. Granted I'm sure they'd have to cut a lot, but I think it could really work well. That would be the ultimate I think.

I'd like it to be made into one too - if SK does the screenplay. It has to be done right. And I think Meryl Streep should play Lisey & Tom Hanks Scott. They both have kids who act & look a lot like them, so they could play the younger versions of Lisey & Scott since the book had a big time span. I think that'd work really well. And Susan Sarandon should be Amanda.
Now that would be an awesome movie! :biggrin2:
I wonder if it will get made into one...I don't think I've heard anything about anyone buying the rights yet.

I'd like to see THE DEAD ZONE done well, for a ****in' change. No offense to Marty Sheen or Christopher Walken, but they were the only good elements of that particular adaptation.
And, I'm still holding out for CELL, ...BUICK 8, and BAG OF BONES. And I still think Bruce Willis would be perfect in the lead (he exhibited so much interest a few years ago).

I'd like to see Desperation made into a proper, big-screen movie. The TV version with Ron Perlman was, sorry to say, pretty awful. I've gone so far as to warn my friends never to unwittingly rent it if they see it in a video store, at least not until they've read the book.
I think Bag of Bones would make a pretty good movie too, if the direction was done well and the right atmosphere was captured.

The Float. Or The Raft, I forget which name it ended up as.
This one would probably be best off if hollywood had nothing to do with it, and some college kids held the rights to create it. Might have already been done actually. But I wouldn't mind visualizing it. Actually seeing the goosebumps on their skin when it was cold a day after they got stuck out there, and people had already died. I'd be nice at least.

Besides The Long Walk what Stephen King story/novel will you like to see made into movie by Frank Darabont? Like Darabont's previous finest works like The Green Mile & Shawshank Redemption how about King's one of the beautiful short stories The Reach? I think Darabont can make another masterpiece from it.
who do you think can make a successful film adaptation of Survivor Type?

I would like to see From a Buick 8, made into a movie, if it's done right. Some of Stephen Kings movies didn't have the right feel to them. Shawshank Redemption and Hearts In Atlantis, were right, but The Stand [both movies] and Christine weren't. They just didn't have the Stephen King humor.

I would love and hate to see The Dark Tower on the big screen. Love it because it should be the most epic series of movies ever, and hate it because it will never live up to my standards.
Other than The Dark Tower, The Road Virus Heads North would make an excellent short film.
I would like to see Pet Cemetery done over, including more of the book, and I want to be able to feel the actors' pain and see some more emotions. I found that movie very bland.
Insomnia has the potential to be such a great movie, as long as Sai King is watching very closely over the production. If not, it would go down the drain very quickly.

Dark Half is one of my favorite adaptations - it's a really tight thriller/horror movie, directed by the talented Romero, that really builds the tension and dread well, as well as questioning whether the killer and the writer are the same guy. As a movie, Dark Half is about as perfect as adaptation as you can get in a Stephen King movie.

Any one of his books would be just fine for me. The only one I would have to say no to is the Dark Tower series. I think it would be ruined. You would have to have the perfect combination of screenwriting, producing, directing and acting to pull it off.
If I had ot pick three I would have to say Insomnia, Bag of Bones
One last thing to add, if I see one more King story adapted for television i am going to scream. There are certain elements to his stories that just aren't suited for TV and don't translate well. HBO/Showtime maybe but regular prime time TV, nope.

I liked Christine for some strange reason, I know it's not even really a good movie, but it is one of my favorite books. I read it as a teenager and I guess it just struck a chord, so for some reason I feel like I have to be loyal to the movie - I don't know, one of those weird things, I guess. Plus I had an ENORMOUS crush on John Stockwell then which helped. But you're right, it was off somehow, didn't have that cleverness to it.

A remake of "IT" done by Frank D. for showtime or HBO with a SPECTACULAR DVD release of the series with all kinds of bonus footage on par with The Mist DVD special edition.

I agree with these, although the DT refrences in Insomnia and Rose madder would be diffucult. Almost have to make the whole DT back story for insomnia
I would especially like Bag of bones ( my new favorite, and geralds game). I hear great things about liseys story. I am going to have to read it.

Glad to hear "Eli Roth's dropped the idea of doing Cell."
Frees it up for me to write it if anyone would like to hire me? lol!
But seriously I think Roth would have missed the point of Cell and we have seen enough badly translated Stephen King adaptations for one life time.
We need more Misery, Shawshank, Stand by Me, The Mist, The Shining, and less Tommyknockers, Night Flier, Thinner, Lawnmover Man.....

One of my other fave books is Insomnia but that would have to put in the hands of one one hell of a director and actor.

It would be nice to see another anthology-type movie, a la Creepshow, The Twilight Zone & Tales of Terror. The Jaunt would fit in nicely here.
I think The Cat From Hell, mentioned above, has been done before, either in Tales From The Darkside (the movie) or Tales From The Crypt (the HBO series).
My vote goes to The Cell, The Dark Tower (nice fat franchise waiting right there), The Talisman, Duma Key, and Under The Dome. Also, even though we have the mini, It could use a theatrical remake.

so far, I can think of max 5 books that have been successfully made into film (Shawshank, It minus the ending, Carrie, Cujo and the green mile), so I'm a bit sceptic :-)
But, if done with care and love and Steve doing the screenplay, I'd love to see Insomnia.

I would like to see CELL made into a film, also Duma Key, both are intensely visual and Ridley Scott would be great for CELL -as a director. I'd love to see Alan Parker take a stab -no pun intended at - at Duma Key. The Story needs that slow eerie buildup and flash realizations that only Alan Parker can provide- like the reversing fans in Angel Heart. Thanks for the question. I would really like to see The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon made into a movie. I read it when I was a teenager, and it has some of Steve's classic twisted avenues in it.
I agree that it would make an awesome movie story. But I wish they wouldn't change a thing in it. I have read the book in it's original english version, and it's the only one I really understood from the first page to the last without using my ''faithful'' dictionary to help me out with words. :biggrin2:

As I'm reading Under the Dome I'm hoping that it is considered for another "Stand-like" miniseries. It could be a good one.
I think so, too. It is too big for a screen event but would be a great TV mini-series.
I am still reading.
I already have the Second Selectman type-cast. I'm sorry, but as I read, the actor Barry Corbin is the Second Selectman. He is good at blustery rhetoric and cunning looks and sarcasm. I hate to think of a person in such a one-dimensional way, but he is able to be the perfect example of the epitome "greedy, self-serving, power-hungry, politician" character.
He may be a really nice man in RL, but he plays a crooked, scheming one so very well.
Fred Dalton Thompson just looks and sounds like a politician, but he doesn't do the "shifty, shrewd and viciously cunning" look very well.
I see Todd Stashwick as Dale Barbara, although he is too tall for casting as such a character. He has the Face, though.
Matt Frewer in my mental visual is doing a much different role as Chef.
Wonder if anyone else populates novels with their own cast of personalities and possibly friends as they read....

The Stand - 14 - 20 episode 1 season series on HBO.
- Don't meld Rita & Nadine
- Cast better actors (Keep the same Stu)
- Give it the sense of time & tension the book had.
- better special effects
- Stay true to the story (Joe with Lucy...etc)

I would also love to see The Long Walk made as a film - if done properly I think it would be amazing.
I'd also love to see a decent version of The Shining (sorry Kubrick and made for true movies with Rebecca De Mornay) and also a remake of The Running Man that was in keeping with the themes of the book. Ooohh and Rage. If done with attention to detail that could be a film to knock you sideways!
LOL you've got me going now and the inner director is displaying itself in not a very favourable light as I imagine my own interpretation of ALL SK stories!!! Heh Heh.

It - should have good acting, should be at least 2-and-half-hour long, should have good special effects and suspense
The Stand - should be just as long as It, good acting, good special effects and the feel of
Rage - great acting,, should not be more than 2-and-half-hours long, suspense
The Long Walk - same as Rage
Bag of bones - same as Rage

And I totally agree that Rose Madder is under appreciated!
The remake of IT should be good, with modern filming they could really intensify the horror!
I hope they include more of the details of the book like the werewolf, the mummy, the bird and the leper.
Pennywise needs to be good too, that might be hard, finding someone to match Curry :/

I agree with you 100%! This would make an EXCELLENT movie (if done right, of course). Most important, in my mind, is the social commentary aspect of the story. They MUST retain this. It's a smart story. Also (also pertaining to the social commentary), the Vietnam link/metaphor MUST stay. This was one of my favorite aspects of the story, it's use as a metaphor for the Draft, and war in general.
