I have the following list of books in hardcover already (of course!), but picked up paperback copies at a used bookstore:
'Hearts in Atlantis'
'The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon'
'The Stand' (uncut)
'Four Past Midnight'
'The Dark Tower' books I thru IV
Cell
Blaze

I just need 'Black House' 'Lisey's Story' and 'The Dark Tower' parts V-VII and my used paperback collection is complete!

I just splurged big time yesterday... :biggrin2: I am now the proud owner of 25 of Stephen's books. I went to a place called Value Village that we have here and looked through the horror section. I reorganized the books and put all of Stephen King's books in one area which actually filled about 1 1/2 shelves. Naturally I chose those books which were in the best condition. Perhaps I should be more specific - I have 24 Stephen King books and one book called "The Talisman" by Stephen King and another author (Peter Straub, I believe). It was a buy four books and get one free kind of deal so when I told the girl I had 24 I had to run back and quickly grab another. It is a good start to my collection as I recently cleared off my book shelf. I look forward to collecting the whole set! yee haw! p.s. I now own the Dark Tower series which I have not read yet, as well as It (another one I have not read)

Just bought the BluRay/DVD edition of Misery on Amazon- it was less than $10!! CHEAP!! By the way, anyone know how Kathy Bates is doing? Haven't heard/saw anything about her in the news- hoping that she is winning her battle!!
Sorry to hear Kathy Bates is not doing well - this is the first I have heard of it. Hope everything turns out okay for her. I just bought a copy of Misery and there is an interesting photo inside (sort of a second cover inside) and the guy in the picture looks a bit like Stephen King well to me he does, anyway

Hi Neesy! Yes, it's definately Sai King on that 'cover'! It was his little 'gift' to all of his 'number 1 fans' out there. Congrats on the great book score too! It's always great fun to add to our collections! Sounds like you made the haul of the century!

Well, it took an hour and many, many 'refresh' attempts and opening three seperate 'windows', but I think I finally was able to order the signed limited edition of The Shining from Sub Press!! I have an order confirmation number, so hopefully it went thru. Not happy with how this all went, it was a repeat of when S & S took orders for 11/22/63- that was a fiasco!

Unfortunately, on the receiving end of the order process, it's like being barraged by friendly fire. :smile2: No matter how you try to prepare for it, the deluge of requests coming in quite often overburden the servers, which is what happened today as well and until SP was able to have their hosting service allocate more bandwidth, it was causing the site to go down.

So, I had my little trip to Seattle and did my bookshopping and this is what I got:
a really nice trade paperback UK edition of Blaze
an excellant hardback 'Collector's Set' of Just After Sunset that has the dvd of 'N' in it (never even opened), it was on the clearance bin at Half Price Books for $2.00-yes, only $2.00!!!

Best of all was the paperback of 'Discovering Stephen King' by Darrell Schweitzer that had two postcards in it- one was from Stephanie Leonard (who is King's sister-in-law and one time editor of 'Castle Rock- The Stephen King Newsletter) and the other postcard is handwritten which I believe is in Stephen King's writing!! You be the judge:

1671516716

Got this at Half Price Books also, all for only $10.00!! I'm pretty sure that it's King's writing- I think he usually signs 'Steve' when he knows the person. Even if it's not his siggy, it is still a bargain.

Hey, Shasta, good for you!! You're going to LOVE this book! I remember the first time I saw my copy- I thought it was the most wonderful-exotic book I'd ever seen! It even smells exotic! One note of difference between the 1st and 2nd printings, besides the endpapers being in color in the 1st printing, there is also a picture of a black skull in a circle on the very last page that is NOT in the 2nd printing. Enjoy!

The Stephen King Movie Quiz Book, which happens to be written by a couple of friends of mine, but is nonetheless nifty. It's divided into movies, and then easy, medium, and hard questions. I just got it today and haven't had much of a chance to look through it, but what I've seen looks fun. I might be quizzing you all later ... SO BE PREPARED. :biggrin2:

It's never too late to learn a new skill. I'll help. Go start a thread in one of the debate forums, taking a stance but not defending it particularly well (doesn't matter what it is), and then I will come in and poke holes in your logic, and you try not to get offended. Bonus points if you successfully answer my rebuttal. We'll just go back and forth for a while that way, because practice makes perfect.

It's for your own good.

Hmm, I thought I'd posted this other stuff, but looking back through, I see I have not. Prior to buying the quiz book, I ordered the 1990 (unabridged) hardback of The Stand, the 1980 Signet paperback version of The Stand, and <drumroll please> the original 1978 hardback of The Stand. (For what little I paid for the 1978 hardback in supposedly very good condition including jacket, I expect it to be book club, but one never knows.)

Also, at Vintage Stock, I picked up DVDs of Stand By Me, The Green Mile, and The Shawshank Redemption. My 13-year-old nephew Connor was here last night and today, and he's watched Stand By Me at least twice. :biggrin2: (He hadn't seen it before.)

I've read Double Feature already; if you enjoyed his first book (We're All In This Together), then I'd say the odds are excellent that you will love this novel. I did! (I've got a review up on my blog, if you're interested...and if you'll pardon the self-promotion. Check it out here (http://thetruthinsidethelie.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-review-of-double-feature-by-owen-king.html) if you like.)

My most recent King purchase was a trio of the Talisman comics: #0, #1, and #5. I've got the hardback, but I didn't have several of the single issues. Now I've got three more of them, which means that once I find a copy of #2, I'll have a complete set.

I've been meeting with the lawyer for a while. He knows I'm a sK fan (in fact, he, his wife, and his office assistant saw Ghost Brothers of Darkland County because I told them about it!), and the other day he and I got into a conversation about sK novels which have a "religious" connection. So, I recommended Desperation, then offered to get him a copy.

latest SK related? Dan Simmon's Flashback.
They quoted stephen king, praising simmons: he wishes he could write like him. So it was an easy buy.

Flashback was more a 3/5 kinda book, but It lead me to the Hyperion Cantos, a superb Sci-Fi tetralogie
After the first book I had a better understanding what King meant.

But I'm curious which book SK had in mind as he stated that, probably not flashback ;-D

The sK one is really very good.
I have it hung where I can see it from my office area at home. He judges me when I am not working on my writing, it helps. Jenny actually showed that painting in her Seattle show and it was a hit. She got a schit-ton of offers on it but she gave it to me because she wanted it to have a home where it would be loved. She's done all sorts of paintings of authors and other artists. This was her first Stephen King, she says he's got a beautiful and interesting face. I agree.

Very nice Patricia!

I didn't buy anything King related but I am painting a picture of the Dark Tower and the field of roses on the wall in my laundry room. Husband thinks I've gone off my rocker. I don't know why he cares, he never goes in there so it shouldn't matter to him.

I am very lucky like that. :y:
I love Jenny's work. One day when I was looking at some paintings and sketches she had done, I asked her if she had ever considered doing a Stephen King portrait to add to her other artist collection and she said no, that's how that thing happened. She's the bomb.
I did have to pay for the clock tho.

Got a real nice large paperback copy of 'Gerald's Game' at a thrift store. It looks just like the hardback. Same illustration as the dj for the hardback. It doesn't say anything inside like it's a BOMC or Quality Paperbck edition. I have been slowly adding these types of paperbacks to my collection. Some of them say BOMC or Quality Paperbacks and they all have the same covers as the original hardbacks have. I have them for Delores Claiborne, Four Past Midnight, Misery, The Dark Half, & The Stand (new uncut version).

No, that's what makes them so odd. Some of the do say inside on the CR page 'BOMC' or 'Quality Paperback Edition'. Gerald's Game says nothing inside, the cr page looks exactly like the one in the hardback edition, but it does have a white blank spot on the back that would be used for the ISBN barcode and number. Strange.....1726417265

I have never had a problem with anything I've gotten from them. I felt bad about it, because some of the proceeds go to charity. The lady told me it wouldn't effect how the donations work out so I felt better. I actually volunteered to send it back but she said, no it's our gift.

I did a return at the store yesterday on a pristine hard cover copy of Storm of the Century. The customer was tres upset that it was a screen play and not a novel. (I wrote SCREEN PLAY on the tag, mind you.) She went on and on and on as I cheerfully refunded her money and apologized for the misunderstanding. So here's the clincher, the guy in line behind her was absolutely bugged eyed as I completed the transaction with the disgruntled lady customer.
As soon as it was his turn to check out he asked me if he could buy the book she had returned. I said sure, you know it's a screen play right? He said, of course I do I have been looking for that for ages.
Ka is wheely.

The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, I got it for about a buck. The SK story "The Doctor's Case" was first published in this anthology back in the eighties... I think.
It's really good and perfect for this book. The story still tastes like Stephen King, but with a touch of.... bergamot?
This is a great anthology with a whole pack of clever writers. The Doctor's Case was later published in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. It fit nicely in there too.

I already had a copy of the 'gift' edition, so I knew what all the illustrations looked like, but this edition just beats the crap out of that and most other King limiteds! Donald Grant (the publisher, rest in Peace) loved books and it shows in this one! I had been wanting this particular edition for years, and the stars finally lined up right for me to purchase it! Actually it's still possible to find a copy of The Bachman Books with Rage in it because I have bought it at a bookstore a while back. Although I don't understand why Rage is banned. Why is it really?

Stephen voluntarily pulled Rage from future printings. He discusses the reasons why in greater detail in his essay, "Guns", but this excerpt puts it in a nutshell:

"...I didn’t pull Rage from publication because the law demanded it; I was protected under the First Amendment, and the law couldn’t demand it. I pulled it because in my judgment it might be hurting people, and that made it the responsible thing to do...."

That's still sounding suspiciously like a pirated copy as Signet/NAL/Penguin wasn't the publisher for The Stand. I just went to their official site (both US and Canadian) and nothing comes up in a search for either The Stand or Paw Prints.

I put the book next to TK paperback to show the size. The spine has The Stand and Stephen's name, that's it. No price anywhere on or in the book.

Looks like it's a paperback that has been Library bound.

Got my copy of Joe Hill's NOS4A2 today from Amazon. It's a third printing! Can you believe that happy-crappy? Shipped on the day of release and it's a third printing! Well, I guess that's good news for Joe, right? Looks like this one might make it to #1 on the bestseller list.

That would be my guess also. I'm not familiar, though, with the "Paw Prints" logo.

Just got off work early and went to Hastings. Got a few books and a bunch of music.

NOS4A2 was on sale for $19.99. Love Joe Hill! I'm stoked!

Owen King - Double Feature was on sale for $26.00. Does this mean he is a better writer than Joe? :grinning: This will be my first book from him. I'm really excited!

Don't know which one to start first.

My Joe Hill book doesn't have a copyright page. How can I tell what printing it is?

Derf! Sorry, I was flipping too many pages! I do like the way the book's pages aren't cut evenly on the right and side. My copy of Horns is like that too. The only other book I have like that is East of Eden by Steinbeck.

Got lucky on both books. Both first editions!

Finally got round to getting an old copy of the Bachman Books, the one with Rage, Long Walk, Road Works and Running Man. It was £2.50 and is in very well used condition - all in tact, not tears but nicely aged - I like them better that way.

Bought 'The Dark Tower: Evil Ground', the 1st part of a two part comic book series. I think the 2nd part should be out by now, I'll have to stop in at the comic book store later this week.
