Hey guys, today, I was in that well known literature retailer......Morrisons:laugh: (that's a UK supermarket for my American friends), in the £1.99 each or 3 for £5 section, I found S.K's The Green Mile. So I bought it, unfortunately it was the only King book they had so I couldn't get the 3 for a fiver. It is the only brand new King book I have ever bought - I have said in the past that I prefer 2nd hand books to new ones, I like the nostalgic feel they have and their old library smell - they just seem to have a cozy feel to them. Oddly enough, it was the cheapest one I have bought.

Occasionally I window shop at Half.com for sK books. Usually I find the windows have no glass and I can reach in and have the books! Sure, pay a little money (very little in my case, I insist), but the trade is fantastic! I did this once again the other day. I like to have extra copies to give as gifts, and even rarely find something I don't already have.

Unfortunately my daughter has been ill over the past few days so haven't been able to read much but once she's back at school I intend to read It! I watched the mini series so the read is bound to be better and it's kinda handy cos I have a face to go to the name

I buy my King works in hardcover only. I went to my favorite Mom-'n-Pop bookstore in late July (Dark Delicacies) and found

Just After Sunset
Insomnia
Dreamcatcher
and a Peter Straub work called Mystery

When I got up to the register with my stack, the owner looked at me and asked "catching up on your Stephen King reading?" and snorted. I couldn't come up with a great response, but we sure did hee-haw. I love buying used books that are in great condition, especially the hardbacks. :)

I hope the quality of translation has improved over the years. One of the reasons I never read the finnish versions anymore, is the way some novels, e.g. It and Tommyknockers were translated into Finnish.
And of course, the English version is available earlier...

Hi, SRBO, yes it is the 'coffin' edition, the one that comes in the big black wooden red silk-lined box. If I can figure out how to post a pic on here I will do so, I tried once before on something else but it wouldn't take the file? I'm not going to say what I paid for it, I purchased it thru Bett's Books, suffice to say that you could get a small used car for the same price. But, I had to 'treat' myself to something extravagant with the inheritance from my Dad's estate. I'm sure he's rolling his eyes at me for doing so, but this edition is something I've lusted after ever since it was released way back when........

Hardbacks of The Stand: Captain Trips & The Stand: American Nightmares
Hardback of Full Dark, No Stars
Also recieved in the mail from Amazon my copy of The Chronicles of Harris Burdick which contains the story The House On Maple Street (based on a piece of art from Chris Van Allsburg which is in Nightmares & Dreamscapes) and also a new story from Tabitha King, which is always a treat when something new by her comes down the pike, there's tons of other authors in this book too. Was notified that Amazon has also shipped my copy of Granta, which has The Dune, a new story by the Master!

I must say, I don't think the book itself could be bigger or heavier, literally. I'm just saying (being an older fan). I started reading it tonight...loving it so far. Wonder how I'll read it in bed. I have a 2nd edition of this book as well. It makes a fine substitute for the 1st since the amount printed was the same IMO (10,000). I'm not forking out that much $$$ right now either.

As for my recent purchases, I have tried to round out all of SK's uncollected works.

I purchased within the last week:

SK Illustrated Companion
TV Guide w/Before The Play
Do-It-Yourself Bestseller
Salem's Lot Illustrated edition
Bred An Good Rooks?
First Words
Antaeus: The Final Volume
The Big Book of NECON
McSweeney’s Mammoth Treasury of Thrilling Tales
McSweeney’s Enchanted Chamber of Astonishing Stories
He Is Legend: Celebrating Richard Matheson
The New Yorker, November 9, 2009

I'd say probably a whole pile of SK books, all from two used bookstores and it was only $30! I think I biught 15 books that day haha. Some of the ones I got were: Carrie, Firestarter, From a Buick 8, The Drawing of the Three, the Dead Zone, and bunch of others that I can't name off the top of my head. All of my SK books together take up two shelves on my bookshelf, and I'm going bargain hunting this weekend to stock up on SK for the winter lol.

I just recieved in the post, Desperation and Dreamcatcher. I got them pre owned from play.com - both are paperbacks, but whilst dreamcatcher is in good shape, some slight creases to the spine, and some page-top tanning, desperation has no marks on it and not a single crease in the spine - it must never have been read. And the price....£4.14 for the 2. Does anyone else in the uk use play for books? It has some stupidly good bargains - I have previously said that I think I prefere 2nd hand books, and I am yet to pay £3 for a book, but even the new (as in not used) books are mostly £5 - £10. I was looking before, you can get the dark tower series for a combined £36.

Anyway, when I have finnished the shining, I am going to dive right into Desperation. As soon as I read the brief description on the website, I just wanted to read it badly. Looks like the Stand will have to wait a bit longer.

I got my copy of 11/22/63 today. I ordered through The Stephen King Library because it was cheaper. I figuered as new as the book is they would send a first edition. Insted it is a book club edition but I did get the 2012 SK desk calender & a book light with it.

The Stephen King Library is a division of Book of the Month Club so part of the reason they are cheaper is because they are book club editions and they do their own production. With a rare exception or two (Storm of the Century and Secret Windows), none of the Stephen King Library editions are ever considered first editions.

Just got the over-sized hardback Land of Enchantment limited edition Cycle of The Werewolf yesterday. Only 7,500 copies printed in 1983. I usually stay away from the expensive limited editions, but this one was too cheap to pass up. I got a really good deal on it. I like the 1st ed. hardback SK books, and the 1st trade edition of this book is smaller in size and only available in paperback form. If they had produced a hardback trade edition I would not have shelled out the $75.00 for this book. I now get to donate my old 1st trade edition paperback to the local library.

This past Saturday, I purchased three first edition King books from a thrift store for $6.00 total. They are more recent books, so it doesn't surprise me that I was able to find them in first edition, but I'm thrilled! The dust jackets are in excellent condition and so are the books. My kids were laughing at me last night as I very carefully removed the little price stickers that the thrift store stuck on. :grinning:

I think I have seen some of the SK Library editions and they are very nice. They are full size and have the original artwork dust jackets. I think my hard cover edition of Carrie is an SK Library edition. I don't like those BC editions that are smaller. Maybe Ms Mod can confirm this but I think the SK Library books are full size and exact duplications of the originals.

Gotta love those thrift store purchases! You never know what you're going to find there. I found a signed hardback mint condition copy of Insomnia and paid $2.99 for it!! My Mother went to visit my Nan a little while ago, and my Nan asked if she knew of anyone who read Stephen King books, my Mum said the I do, so my Nan gave her a hardback copy of Under The Dome which she bought at her library for 10 English pence (£0.1). It has a protective cover over the dust cover, I have no idea if it is a first edition or anything, nor do I know how to check, but still.......10p. Library bargains are cool.

We told DMG that we wouldn't make our announcement until tomorrow about this as they didn't want to get slammed right away with orders and wanted the people on their list to have first crack at it. Just wanted to let you know why I am putting your post on the pre-order in a spoiler notice. :smile2:

There is also a signed chapbook, a signed limited edtion of a book that I had thought about getting from them but never got around to it, a limited Peter Straub novella, an anthology of weird western stories and a Halloween poetry anthology! No need to be jealous, you will always have Nick Saban and The Crimson Tide to cheer you up. I was able to track all of them down on addall for a very reasonable price. Soooo excited. A couple of weeks ago I decided I'm finally going to read the Dark Tower books. Purchased books 1,2,3,4, & 6 plus found a copy of the Bachman books in paperback cost $35-00 Australian (about $38-00 American) from second-hand bookshop today. Haven't been there for ages and the woman in the shop said they only came in a couple of days ago. They're not a matched set and the Bachman Book is a bit aged but it's the words inside that are important. Haven't read any of them before so am looking forward to it.

I envy your journey to the Tower, dear!!!! And the Bachman Books are a great read. The Running Man is NOTHING like the movie starring Ahhhnold. Enjoy!!

All seven DT`s in Hardcover, IT first edition, first printing, Salem`s Lot and Dead Zone.
The DT`s are beautiful, man.
Finally I got`em all in HC.:)

Now I need the Green Mile in HC, Firestarter and Night Shift. And I think that`s it for SK hard-covers. I shall find them one day, too.

Was at a HUGE used book store over the weekend. I happened to glance by the register and saw an original paperback of Rage just sitting there waiting to be bought. I asked the guy if it was for sale and he told me they had to check on the price first. Believe it or not, I got it for 10 bucks. Pretty good condition too.

Also bought 15 SK paperbacks to read while I'm on the train to and from work (I collect the hardcovers but they're a bitch to lug around....especially the "war-and-peace-sized" ones. I already have the hardcover/paperback versions of Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, Night Shift, The Stand, The Dead Zone, Firestarter, Danse Macabre, Cujo, Different Seasons, Christine, Pet Semetary, The Talisman, Thinner, Skeleton Crew, The Bachman Books collection, Four Past Midnight, Gerald's Game, The Green Mile, Bag of Bones, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Everything's Eventual, Cell and Duma Key.
I picked up the following:
The Eyes of the Dragon
Misery
The Tommyknockers
The Dark Half
Needful Things
Dolores Claiborne
NIghtmares & Dreamscapes
Insomnia
Rose Madder
Desperation
The Regulators
Dreamcatcher
From A Buick 8
Just After Sunset
Full Dark, No Stars (just realized that the paperback has an extra story included!)

I ordered the Wind Through the Keyhole audio book, I can get a hardback for my preeeecccciouuuuusss... I mean my bookcase, later. Stephen King reading it himself was the clincher on that deal. I love it when authors read their own stories. Gaiman reads a mean-ass Gaiman too.

I also got this t-shirt. There is a story of human weakness behind this shirt. It was featured on Teefury, a really cool website that features one tee a day for 10 bucks but once it's gone it's gone. I saw it and fell in love with it, and wanted to buy it but I said NO! and went about my business.
Days passed, but I couldn't stop thinking about it. Long story less long, I hunted it down to the artist's website, found it, it was way more than I was willing to pay and I said NO!, and ordered it anyhow.
