Just pre-ordered Under The Dome from the Walmart website at the incredible price of 8.99 + tax and free shipping included!!! Less than $10 for a brand new SK book!! It seems that Walmart, Target and Amazon (Ammie doesn't have free shipping though, except on orders over $25) are having price wars on books and are rapidly dropping prices to get the sales. At these prices, they're losing money but they figure they'll make up for it by customers buying other items from their sites. So, if you want to pro-order the new John Grisham, Dean Koontz or Sarah Palin books and only pay $8.99 + tax and free shipping, then head over to their sites and check 'em out!!

A few weeks ago a good friend called saying his lady was dragging him around to yard sales. I said I was sorry. He asked if I still read King. I said yep, and he said he was looking at a box of King's hardbacks, would I be interested? Sure, I told him, bring them over. I had some of the titles in HB, but not all. I won't bore you with the details, except to say "Night Shift" has the introduction by John D. MacDonald (my hero), which I slobbered over, and "The Stand" is the unabridged copy. The happy part is I paid only one dollar apiece for the twenty two books. I hugged his lady. I love happy endings.

And I ordered The First Four in the Dark Tower TPB, and I am looking for the rest of the series in TPB.

On another, yet related subject: I was at my local bookstore yesterday, and I asked the self proclaimed "avid King reader" clerk about Richard Bachman...
She "had never heard of him"!!!! Do I live in Desperation? WTF? It's not like he was outed yesterday?? Today I go out searching in this same town, for a New Yorker magazine, a sarcastic, intelligent piece of publishing. Do you think I will find it?

Just bought Under The Dome... I was working so much lately I didn't even know it had been released until I saw a bookshop advert on television. I went straight to amazon and bought one.
A bit disappointed I couldn't get my hands on a collector's edition with the fancy cover over here in the UK and besides, bit pricey for my current situation. I'll make do with the H+S hardcover. :)
I haven't been able to read a thing the past two months... hopefully this book will change that! Will be looking to purchase Duma Key sometime in the future.

I have a copy of this one too. It's a gorgeous book! I've been watching the prices fall on Ebay, their going for almost half of what I paid four years ago!! I hope you got a good price on yours. Merry Christmas to you, right? :biggrin2: Word of advice, hold the slipcase on the spine with the opening pointing down towards the ground and let gravity pull the book out for you (with a hand positioned underneath to catch the book coming out), that way you'll not end up with the usual wear to the bottom edges of the book. I've seen quite a few copies that are now showing this particular problem. Enjoy your book! Oh, see if you can find the extra chapter too!

Unfortunately, while I did get a good price, the slipcase was pretty beat up, more so than was represented in the auction. But I still have a copy of a S/L that I have been chasing for more than a decade.
I'll keep my eyes open for the extra chapter. I've read the book numerous times and hope it should stand out.

That chapter actually doesn't really stand out. It's a small one in which Flagg kills someone. Very easy to overlook. I took some time and compared the limited ed. with the trade edition, going thru it page by page. It's towards the back where Flagg is fleeing the castle.

I was in Toronto on Nov 19th to attend Stephen Kings Under The Dome reading.. While I was there I hit some local bookstores and found Cycle of The Werewolf New in the Indigo store to add to my collection. I bought an extra copy for my buddy as a Christmas gift. I wasn't lucky enough to win one of the books at the King Event, so I bought an autographed copy from a guy who won one there today and am anxiously awaiting for it to arrive by mail. This will be my first king autographed book for my collection. Now if I could only find a good copy of The Colorado Kid.

Just bought The Stephen KIng Illustrated Companion by Bev Vincent at B&N for $24.98. I HIGHLY recommend that any SK fan get this book as it contains tons of cool stuff, like reproductions of the actual manuscripts (pages, of course, not the entire thing) of The Stand, The Shine (Shining) among others. I didn't even know this book existed till yesterday! There are also pics of SK from his childhood that I hadn't seen before and lots of other photos too. There's even reproductions of The Drum, a school paper that has a very rare story in it (The 43rd Dream). Thanks to Bev Vincent for bringing this to us fans!!

My girlfriend (god bless her) bought me The Stephen King companion for christmas this year. I have the old one, but this one, by Bev Vincent, totally rocks. It is hardcover, oversized and contains pages from his old school newspaper from back in the day, notes on various books with editors comments and such. It even has a copy of the telegraph he recieved when carrie was purchased. You have to check this out. I didn't know it even existed until Christmas morning. My personal latest purchases have been Under The Dome (which I loved and finished in about five days) and earlier in the year I got the donald grant slipcase version of Little Sisters of Eluria.

Hi,
Good point there, I've long felt that DT ALREADY consists of eight books, starting with The Gunslinger and with The Gunslinger Revised as the eighth.

My latest purchases are :Carrie original bookclub edition for $3.00 , The Shining mini series for $5.34, and IT in hardcover for $4.
this weekend I'm going to a Secondhand shop to buy Hardcovers of Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, and The Shining (not sure if they are first editions, but they are definitely to large to be book club editions, none of those three have prices on the flaps) So I'm wondering what exactly they are, other than hardcovers.

Just got a few things!! Okay, too many things...I'm broke, but happy...
My traycased Knowing Darkness is sitting on my kitchen table. This has to be the most amazing book I have ever seen visually. It is around 25 lbs!@! Was very expensive, but I have to say just outstandingly done. Can't be more happy. Literally sitting on my kitchen table though as I have no idea where to put it b/c it's HUGE and I don't just want to put it in a box in the closet. hahaha!
Ordered the new baseball one too...can't wait to put my shiny new baseball card in my case with the other collectible SK stuff!
Also recently got a set of the Colorado Kid Artist editions with remarques by each artist in their respective book which I like.
Still need a 1st/1st of Night Shift and also Salem's Lot, but am too broke to get them. :( Not giving up though!!

how do you go about getting ARC's?
I`m pretty sure you have to be member of Cemetary Dance and at the beginning of a calendar year you pay a fee, like 10 bucks or something, and then you qualify to purchase an ARC of an upcoming book that they will publish during that year.
Might not be 100% accurate, but it is something along those lines.

This is not true, unfortunately! (I kind of specialize in King proofs/ARCs). I get mine from contacts here in the US and in the UK. I've spent a lot of time (and money) cultivating these contacts. If you're interesting in seeing my collection of proofs, check out:
http://thedarktower.com/palaver/showthread.php?t=6011
I also started a thread that, in the first post, lists all the proofs/ARCs that I know of by Stephen King:
http://thedarktower.com/palaver/showthread.php?t=443
I try to keep this thread as up-to-date as possible, but I'm sure there are errors, etc. there.

Though technically a gift, one of my co-workers bought me a copy of "Everything's Eventual" for my birthday a few days back. I had already read a few of the tales in my Mom's copy, but am happy to have one of my own. I have always considered King's short work to be some of his best (I think I have actually purchased three copies of "Night Shift" over the years!) and look forward to reading them.
But first, "Under The Dome" awaits completion.

My latest purchase is through Cemetary Dance and it is a years membership. It has several items in it. I can"t wait to receive it. I also purchased a one print it tee-shirt through them. so waiting patiently. I also like to go to yard sales and look for SK items.

The past week last week I was out of town for a few days for some shopping.
Went to the usual Waldenbooks store in the mall and bought myself one paperback of Stephen King's Christine Novel and used my borders card.
also I noticed that the new paperback version of the Gunslinger is expensive at 15 bucks. What the hell?

There's a shop near town that sells a bunch of used books. There's a whole section of nothing but SK books. I bought The Tommyknockers, Thinner, and Misery. In fact, these are the only SK items that I own. I decided I should check out his work because some of the movies are really great, and my sister is a big fan. So, the only SK book I've read so far is Thinner, but I see a lot of Stephen King in my future. xD

PB of one of the most powerful stories Steve has every written (even though I have "The Bachman Boks " already, but this one stands miles out, so I had to have it singled out)
Who doesn`t walk " The Long Walk " with Ray Garraty, is not walking at all.

You're going to be absolutely blown away by this book!!!! It's an expensive item but well worth the money. Some of the artwork is simply amazing. And, you'll increase the size of your biceps just holding it!!:biggrin2:

I just started listening to IT on audiobook. Steven Weber does a respectable job of narrating. Some of his characterizations are spot on, and Bill's stuttering is rather convincing.

Two gems from ebay:
A sealed brand new Desperation/Regulators set that comes with a "keep you up all night"-light from a late nineties promotion!!!
A used copy of STephen King reading "The Gunslinger" audiobook on cassestte for a lousy five bucks!
Now after I complete the Gunslinger (revised edition) I can go back and listen to the original read by the writin' dude himself.

Terrific purchases, you must be delighted, I just re-read Desperation (brlliant) and I started The Regulators last night and I've seen the set you mention -tres cool!

Storm Of The Century on VHS and The Tommyknockers series on DVD.
Both were $2.99 each, brand new in the wrapper. Can't complain about that price!

First edition paperbacks of The Shining and Night Shift. I bought them on my haunted Wisconsin/King stuff tour with my sis which makes the books special.
I lied, I don't have a quote, but this is the only way I could find to reply to this Wisconsinite. I live in S.E. Wisconsin & was wondering what you your WI/King tour included??:eyebrow:

Picked up "the Colorado Kid" at a local discount dime store in my neighborhood for only a dollar and a quarter. Although I've already read this I found it to be a collection piece to my beloved library of Steven King's books.

I read here on the board that Viking had put out The Dark Tower 1-4 in hardback, which somehow I missed when it happened, so I recently acquired them on ebay. I only had the Plume oversized softcover versions of them, and always wanted them in hardback, but can't really do the Grant versions, even though I would love to have them! Anyway, I am very pleased that I now have all 7 books in hardbacks, they look very pretty sitting together on my shelf.

It wasn't a purchase, but I am counting it; I recently received the audio of The Colorado Kid- excited to break out the tape deck and give it a listen!

That should be interesting, Mojo! Do you know who narrated it?

I won a prize on the Stephen King Trivia Board (check it out, fun group). I got 'The Dark Half' in a hardback copy from the generous user Blunthead.
It shows once again, how cool and special this SKMB really is.
