This board can be used as a place for listing your favourite musicians/singers that have passed on instead of passing out...and are now jamming together in the possible hereafter. This board can give some of us an excuse to write our own imagined reviews of possible shows, or just a place to blabber on.

Most recently joining the place ( so far as I can tell) would be Jeff Healey...

I loved Chris Ledoux! His songs really hit home for me since they centered alot around my lifestyle. I saw him in concert for the first time in Indianapolis, IN, then in Cheyenne, Wyoming during Frontier Days, again at the Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville, TN and the last time at a little county fair up in the middle of Ohio. He put on an awesome show and I was never disappointed. He passed shortly after the little county fair in Ohio so I was glad I got to see him since I took the whole family and one of sons adored him at the time.

I was sitting in my truck outside of a restaurant while out of town at a horse show with tears streaming down my cheeks the first time I heard The Ride shortly after his death.

I was six years old, my brother was ten
One July day came running in,
seen a ferris wheel at the edge of town
So, of course, we headed on down

Well it took us an hour to walk that far
Carrying our fortune in a Mason jar
It was all pretty sad, a cheap county fair
With a few old rides but there was ponies there

Well, the ponies stunk and the air was still
In that dusty circle behind the ferris wheel
This old guy smelling of smoke and rum
Swung me up and sat me down on one

Well I'd never rode a horse but I'd seen it done
Cowboy movies made it look like fun
This old man whispered a few soft words
It was the best advice I've ever heard

Chorus:
He said "Sit tall in the saddle, Hold your head up high
Keep your eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky
And live like you ain't afraid to die
And don't be scared, just enjoy your ride"

I went up a kid with shaking hands
And I came down a full grown man
It was like he'd cast some Voodoo spell
Things were different for me now, I could tell

'Cos whenever troubles come wandering in
His rhyme would pop in my head again
And somehow I rode through the needles and nails
Brambles and thorns that life entails

CHORUS

Well I know some day farther down the road
I'll come to the edge of the great unknown
There'll stand a black horse riderless
And I wonder if I'm ready for this

So I'll saddle him up and he'll switch his tail
And I'll tip my hat and bid fairwell
And lift my song into the air
That I learned at that dusty fair

"Sit tall in the saddle, Hold your head up high
Keep your eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky
And live like you ain't afraid to die
And don't be scared, just enjoy your ride"
Now don't be scared, just enjoy your ride

Another that tugs at my heartstrings is Johnny Cash - Hurt

The "J's" definitely have it: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison would be great to see rock together! It also would also be fun to see Ray Charles, Freddy Mercury and Kurt Cobain jamming together; and George Harrison would sound great with Warren Zevon.

Let's also not forget Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Carr (drummer for KISS), Randy Rhoades (guitarist for Ozzy), Ritchie Valens, Kevin DuBrow (vocalist for Quiet Riot), Steve Clark (Def Leppard), John Bonham, Keith Moon, and John Lennon.

And one that not too many folks noticed, sadly, was Dan Fogelberg.

Perhaps one of the "Coming Soon" attractions might be Brittany Spears...Although I've a feeling (and a preference, to be honest) that she ends up in "the bad place". Possibly she'll take Amy Winehouse with her, too.

One of the greats are not called The Grateful Dead for nothing. Jerry Garcia - jamming with Jesus, freed from mortal coil. He brought solace to many lonely souls while on this here blue marble, still does.

And despite such as those who'd seek to bring down an Eliot Spitzer over trivialities [wasn't it the prostitutes who were subject of investigation?] - what a crummy little world, so "Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone," and strike up the band, Uncle John.

Hi

Bon Scott, the original lead singer with AC/DC.
Left these shore's in 79/80 but still the band goes on.

I have many, many fond memories of rocking to some of their early tunes in my youth, although by then he'd already been gone for a few years.

Maybe he's still on the Highway to Hell.

A favourite keyboardist of mine just went to the "great gig in the sky"..

RIP Mr. Richard Wright, who provided us with years of incredible inspiration with his celestial sounds and vocals for Pink Floyd.

I'm probably one of the very few who's got a copy of his "Broken China" cd. It's really quite a wonderful piece of work.

Tim Buckley and his son Jeff. One of the greatest songs I've ever heard was Jeff Buckley singing "Halleluah". I would also add Jim Morrison but since he faked his death and is now living in Wyoming, I left him off.

I think the best thing either of the Buckleys did for their careers was to kark it. I liked Tim's various acoustic meanderings, but Jeff's yodelings kind of make me retch.

He became a bit of an influence on me in my earlier years. I was fortunate enough to see and meet his brother Tom as well...

i just finished reading this short story You Know They Got a Hell of a Band and i don't know what one would feel if he/she goes to the rock and roll heaven. most especially if you admire rock bands and singers and you happen to land to a place where they must be resting--but instead their still playing--and playing because rock and roll never dies... :wow:

Hi,

I see there are three audio collections of Nightmares and Dreamscapes to be issued on CD on June 30th.

They must have been recorded some time ago because Jerry Garcia is listed as one of the readers.

Hope it's 'You Know They've Got a Hell of a Band'.

The stellar line-up of readers also includes Sai King and Tabby, Tim Curry, Rob Lowe, Whoopi Goldberg and Kathy Bates among others.

Long days and pleasant nights

Yes, John, these are the ones that were previously released by Penguin Audiobooks but on cassette only. Simon & Schuster Audioworks has the recording rights now and three collections will be available June 30th. The fourth will be coming out in October or November (I'd have to go back through my emails to verify the date).

The recording by Jerry Garcia was done shortly before his death. Steve had personally requested his reading of that story and most of the other readers were his personal choice because they had worked on previous projects for him.
