Amores - Mari Trini
I remember my parents playing her stuff when I was little, and being enchanted by it. She unfortunately passed away earlier this year, and I'm doffing my hat to her.
This cut was the one that swept me away, and still does. (So I'm a romantic; sue me.)
Lyrics in Spanish: Amores se van marchando
como las olas del mar
amores los tienen todos
pero quien los sabe cuidar
El amor es una barca
con dos remos en el mar
un remo aprietan mis manos
el otro lo mueve el azar
CORO
Quien no escribio un poema
huyendo de la soledad
quien a los quince años
no dejó su cuerpo abrazar
y quién cuando la vida se apaga
y las manos tiemblan ya
quién no buscó ese recuerdo
de una barca naufragar.
Amores se vuelven viejos
antes de empezar a amar
porque el amor es un niño
que hay que enseñar a andar
El amor es como tierra
que hay que arar y sembrar
mírala al caer la tarde
que no lo vengan a pisar
Coro...
Amores se van marchando...
Lyrics in English: Love goes marching
like the waves of the sea
Those who may have love
are not always those who know how to care
Love is a boat
with two oars in the sea
when my hands use the paddle,
another chance moves
Chorus: Who hasn't written a poem
to escape from loneliness?
Who at fifteen
has not wanted to also leave his body
when love leaves,
to shake hands with death
and seek this memory
of a boat sinking?
Love can grow old
before it really becomes love
for love is a child
being taught to walk
Love is like land
you have to plow and sow
look at it at dusk
to see who hasn't come to walk on it
Love goes marching ...
...and the song itself, in all its Iberian drama and glory...

Fleetwood Mac - You Make Loving Fun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KvZiTA28p8
Lyrics:
Sweet wonderful you,
You make me happy with the things you do,
Oh, can it be so,
This feeling follows me wherever I go.
I never did believe in miracles,
But I've a feeling it's time to try.
I never did believe in the ways of magic,
But I'm beginning to wonder why.
Don't, don't break the spell,
It would be different and you know it will,
You, you make loving fun,
And I don't have to tell you that you're the only one.
Oooh . . . you make loving fun. (It's all I wanna do.)
Oooh . . . you make loving fun. (It's all I wanna do.)
Oooh . . . you make loving fun. (It's all I wanna do.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7qtLrQVUFQ
Yeah, the video's cute.
I don't know but
I think I maybe
Fallin' for you
Dropping so quickly
Maybe I should
Keep this to myself
Waiting 'til I
Know you better
I am trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I'm scared of what you'll say
So I'm hiding what I'm feeling
But I'm tired of
Holding this inside my head
I've been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you
I've been waiting all my life
And now I found ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you
I'm fallin' for you
As I'm standing here
And you hold my hand
Pull me towards you
And we start to dance
All around us
I see nobody
Here in silence
It's just you and me
I'm trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I'm scared of what you'll say
So I'm hiding what I'm feeling
But I'm tired of
Holding this inside my head
I've been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you
I've been waiting all my life
And now I found ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you
I'm fallin' for you
Oh I just can't take it
My heart is racing
The emotions keep spinning out
I've been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you
I've been waiting all my life
And now I found ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you
I'm fallin' for you
I can't stop thinking about it
I want you all around me
And now I just can't hide it
I think I'm fallin' for you [x2]
I'm fallin' for you

Traffic Jam - James Taylor
Thought about posting the original from the JT album, but this live version has a great gospel/jazz feel to it. It is not lost on me, the L.A. Valley Girl, that it was recorded at the Hollywood Bowl.
http://www.imeem.com/artists/james_taylor/music/an2ZVWmE/james-taylor-traffic-jam/
"...just strap me in behind the wheel and bury me with my automobile..."
(Chorus)
Damn this traffic jam
How I hate to be late
It hurts my motor to go so slow
Damn this traffic jam
Time I get home my supper'll be cold
Damn this traffic jam
Well I left my job about 5 o'clock
It took fifteen minutes go three blocks
Just in time to stand in line
With a freeway looking like a parking lot
- Chorus -
Now I almost had a heart attack
Looking in my rear view mirror
I saw myself the next car back
Looking in the rear view mirror
'Bout to have a heart attack
I said
- Chorus -
Now when I die I don't want no coffin
I thought about it all too often
Just strap me in behind the wheel
And bury me with my automobile
- Chorus -
Damn...
Now I used to think that I was cool
Running around on fossil fuel
Until I saw what I was doing
Was driving down the road to ruin

Jeremy Camp - One Day At A Time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyUrpBVcWOY
--Just a great song about persevering through the tough times. There's always the promise of tomorrow!!!
Lyrics: One day at a time I will walk this road I've traveled so far
One day at a time well I know I will carry on
One day at a time I can see you took my life this far
One day at a time I will take this faith along
All this hope I breathe is given by the hand that carries me
Until I'm complete and I'll take all I will
To understand this plan you have for me, for me
I've been shut up shut down held out held down
In ways I never knew I would
But I can feel your fullness in my life
Well I've been burned out broken torn out torn down
In ways I never knew I would
But I can feel your fullness in my life
one day at a time
One day at a time I will take these words you've given me
One day at a time I will rest in knowing you
One day at a time I will share this gift you've given me
One day at a time I will walk these valleys through
And all I know is that I see
How much my heart is longing to be cradled by your side
Yeah, I'll give all I can
To one day soon be held by your hand, by your hand
I've been shut up shut down held out held down
In ways I never knew I would
But I can feel your fullness in my life
Well I've been burned out broken torn out torn down
In ways I never knew I would
But I can feel your fullness in my life
In all these things I will press on, yeah
I'll be with you I know it won't be long

Her voice is iconic in my opinion. My favorite of the well knowns is probably If Love is a Red Dress, but Show Me Heaven is great, too. but nobody can ever remember who sings them. What is up with that?

Happy Days Are Here Again-Barbra Streisand
So long sad times
Go long bad times
We are rid of you at last
Howdy gay times
Cloudy gray times
You are now a thing of the past
Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again
Altogether shout it now
There's no one
Who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again
Your cares and troubles are gone
There'll be no more from now on
From now on ...
Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So, Let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy times
Happy nights
Happy days
Are here again!

My Grown Up Christmas List - Kelly Clarkson
Do you remember me
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies
Well I'm all grown up now
And still need help somehow
I'm not a child but my heart still can dream
So here's my lifelong wish
My grown up Christmas list
Not for myself but for a world in need
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
As children we believe
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely wrapped beneath the tree
But Heaven only knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal a hurting human soul
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
What is this illusion called the innocence of youth
Maybe only in our blind belief can we ever find the truth
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
This is my only lifelong wish
This is my grown up Christmas list

Oh, step aside, y’all ornery tenderfeet,
Cause I’m about to sing my song...
I’m an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
But my legs ain’t bowed, and my cheeks ain’t tan
Well I’m a cowboy who never saw a cow
Never roped a steer ’cause I don’t know how
And I sure ain’t fixin’ to startin' now
Oh, yippee-i-o-ki-ay, yippee-i-o-ki-ay
I’m an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
And I learned to ride before I learned to stand
Well I’m a ridin' fool who is up to date
I know every trail in the Lone Star state
’cause I ride the range in a Ford v-8
Oh, yippee-i-o-ki-ay, yippee-i-o-ki-ay
Look out...I’m gonna show y’all how to ride now...
Here we go!
I’m an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
And I come to town just to hear the band
I know all the songs that the cowboys know
’bout the big corral where the dogies go
’cause I learned them all on the radio
Oh, yippee-i-o-ki-ay, yippee-i-o-ki-ay
Now my story’s almost done, so listen up!
You ain’t got much longer now...
I’m an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
Where the west is wild round the borderland
Where the buffalo roam around the zoo
And the Indian make you a rug or two
And the old bar-x is the bar-be-cue
Oh, yippee-i-o-ki-ay, yippee-i-o-ki-ay
I’m just an old cowhand...

A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall - Bob Dylan
These lyrics are simply magical, you are never sure will you cry or smile when you hear them.
One of the best songs ever...
Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans,
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin',
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world,
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin',
Heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin',
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin',
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter,
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
Who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony,
I met a white man who walked a black dog,
I met a young woman whose body was burning,
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow,
I met one man who was wounded in love,
I met another man who was wounded with hatred,
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

After reading the feedback a few weeks ago, it sounded like people really enjoyed the thread and seeing others' posts about the songs they liked so I'm okay with the posting. I usually go directly to the thread so I can check them all off at once which makes it easier. Appreciate the concern, though. :smile2:

No offense taken where none is intended I'm sure.
Maybe this thread has gotten 1500+ posts because people like it and it's been around for a long, long time.
I don't understand what you mean by "just a vanity thread," is it vain to share the music you like with your friends?
If Ms Mod wants to shut it down because it's too much work for her I'm sure she'd say so. No shrinking violet her.

Master of Puppets - Metallica
Heard a friend of mine died a few days ago from a drug overdose.
And that`s what that song is about...when you let the white stuff become your master...and you are the puppet...
"Master, Master, where's the dreams that I've been after?
Master, Master, you promised only lies
Laughter, laughter, all I hear or see is laughter
Laughter, laughter, laughing at my cries
Fix me!"
Sad indeed...

Stairway To Heaven - Led Zepp
I still get goosebumps when I hear these lyrics, even though I hear them thousands of times...
"And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The truth will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway
To heaven... "

Love Alone-Caedmons Call
No one will love me if they know all the things I hide.
My words fell to the floor as tears drip to the telephone line.
And the hands I've seen raised, not waving but drowning after all.
I'll try to build the Ark that they need to float to you upon the Crystal Sea
Give me Your hand to hold, cause I can't stand to love alone.
And love is not enough to hold us up. We've got to touch Your rope.
So swing Your rope down low.
And the pain of the world is my burden and it's my cross to bear.
And I stumble under all the weight. I know your Simon standing there.
And I know You're standing there.

"Hearing Damage" by Thom Yorke. It's featured in the movie, "New Moon." I know we all have our different opinions when it comes to the writing, but it's an enjoyable popcorn movie - if you're just looking to be entertained rather than intellectually challenged, these movies are perfect. That being said, the soundtracks are kind of awesome, too.
