The perils of too much Catnip!

Not to bring a downer to a beautiful thread, but I had a traumatic experience with my kitty this morning. (It has a happy ending, so just bear with me). In the mornings, I open my garage door and start my car. Then I go in and get everything I need gathered to leave. Then I back out of the driveway and hit the garage door opener/closer and wait for my door to close all the way before leaving. I do this because I have two cats, and they like to dart in before the door closes, which causes the door to go back up, and I don't want my house "open" all day. This morning, I backed out, closed the garage door, watched it go all the way down, and left. About 20minutes later I received a phone call from my neighbor, who was in hysterics asking me for my garage code. My beloved kitty, Garcia, who is part of our family and very loved, had apparently been on top of the open garage door when I shut it. I didn't notice him when I left because I was looking at the bottom of the door, not the top. I turned my car around and met my neighbor (kitty savior sp?) at the vet. Before I got there she called to tell me to be prepared because he did not look good and she didn't know if they would make it to the vet or not. I was shaking like a leaf and crying like a baby. I had the worst images in my mind of his condition. I finally managed to make it through the awful morning rush hour traffic to the vet. When I walked in the door, the lady who worked there came out to show him to me. His lips were gray and his back end, from about mid-back down and both back legs seemed useless. He was alert and coherent, happy to see me, but they weren't acting like it was going to end well at the vet.

The good news...They took exrays and and he's not broken, fractured, or dislocated. (I'm saying, this cat has more than 9 lives). 2 vertibra (sp?) are stretched/pulled and he may have some nerve damage, but he was walking better and purring when I loved on him. The best part of this, is my kids did not have to come home from school and find him.

Oh no! I just happened upon this thread --- it's hard enuff to stop reading what folks write about SK & the books....NOW I gotta tear myself away from looking at these babbies!!! My two kittyboyz, George & BJ, are (as I tell 'em) "de bes in de worl" but the pics (and captions!) on here are magnifique. When I walked in the door, the lady who worked there came out to show him to me. His lips were gray and his back end, from about mid-back down and both back legs seemed useless. He was alert and coherent, happy to see me, but they weren't acting like it was going to end well at the vet.

The good news...They took exrays and and he's not broken, fractured, or dislocated. (I'm saying, this cat has more than 9 lives). 2 vertibra (sp?) are stretched/pulled and he may have some nerve damage, but he was walking better and purring when I loved on him. The best part of this, is my kids did not have to come home from school and find him.

Not to bring a downer to a beautiful thread, but I had a traumatic experience with my kitty this morning. (It has a happy ending, so just bear with me). In the mornings, I open my garage door and start my car. Then I go in and get everything I need gathered to leave. Then I back out of the driveway and hit the garage door opener/closer and wait for my door to close all the way before leaving. I do this because I have two cats, and they like to dart in before the door closes, which causes the door to go back up, and I don't want my house "open" all day. This morning, I backed out, closed the garage door, watched it go all the way down, and left. About 20minutes later I received a phone call from my neighbor, who was in hysterics asking me for my garage code. My beloved kitty, Garcia, who is part of our family and very loved, had apparently been on top of the open garage door when I shut it. I didn't notice him when I left because I was looking at the bottom of the door, not the top. I turned my car around and met my neighbor (kitty savior sp?) at the vet. Before I got there she called to tell me to be prepared because he did not look good and she didn't know if they would make it to the vet or not. I was shaking like a leaf and crying like a baby. I had the worst images in my mind of his condition. I finally managed to make it through the awful morning rush hour traffic to the vet. Oh (((smjohn))) my heart was in my mouth reading this, you poor, poor thing. I am so pleased to hear that Garcia is looking to be okay though - I get so sad when I hear about people's beloved pets coming to harm.
I know what you mean when you say that Garcia has 9+ lives - my Mr Jolly was like that, he found trouble everywhere!

Wow, smjohn! Poor kitty! (And poor you!) They do get in the strangest places. I know when your pet is hurt, it can be nerve wracking thinking they're not gonna make it. You must be traumatized by the whole thing. Thank God he'll be OK. I, too will say a prayer for his full recovery.

Thank you soooo much for all of your prayers, they appear to be working. Last night he used his litter box and there was no blood, which means no internal bleeding, which they couldn't tell about in the xray's. I let him walk around a little and he is already walking better. It looks like the worst that has happened to him is that his vert. are stretched, but he appears to be bouncing right back. He's taking his meds really well and getting better by the minute. My poor neighbor will probably have nightmares for a month after this, but she said it was worth it to see that Garcia is going to be fine. (I'm gonna get her something BIG for this one. She said our friendship was enough, but she saved my cats life. Help me think of something good:)) I love you all so much, thank you for the thoughts and prayers. Garcia gives you all kisses and hugs. (Really, he thinks he's a dog. He wags his tail, kisses my nose and wraps his front legs around my neck).

Smjohn, it is sad and I am glad that he is doing better. (((((((Smjohn and kitten))))))!
My foster mom ran over my cat Rhubare (SP?) and I didn't believe until I went out and saw him. The vet said he was fine but he might not pull through because he got pretty squished. I asked if I could take him home then, I wanted him to die there. Not in the vet office, my mom agreed. I took him home and for two weeks I had to feed, clean under my bed and bathe him gentle. He pulled through, he was all ready old but he made it. Then another time he got poisoned, we got through that together. He had more than nine lives. I don't mean to bring more sadness, it is just I hear these stories and I remember all the cats I have had through out the years. I grew up with this cat, I asked him if he would stay with me until I moved out of the foster family. He almost made it, he died of heart failure while I was away visiting a friend. He was a good friend, we have a picture of him somewhere. He is on the panio, he loved that thing. We would hear him some times a four in the morning playing it. :oo:
Ack, I am running my tongue in the middle. It is just some times I am reminded of the cats I have had when I read stories here. I love this thread! It has lots of warmness and laughter!

We have six kitties (not on purpose, long story, will share sometime). In a month we are moving, and we have to temporarily (probably for two years) rehome three because we can only take three with us. Well, we have been putting it off, but yesterday we took two, Ace and Little Miss, to my husband's little sister's apartment. She really loves them, and we will still see them ... but I miss them, even though they drove me nuts on a regular basis. :(

Okay, now I'm getting all verklempt. I'm gonna go drown my sorrows in Diet Coke and packing.
