I am feeling a lot better, sorry I have been gone so long. I have been resting and now I am back to my regular duties of life. Oh, yes and I can work again! They want me to stay at the casino. They like my work and do not want to see me go, they left the choice to me. I chose to stay and work my tail off. Me and my partner are told we are good dish washers and we cannot leave! :oo:Mama Wolf, I am a lot better. The missus has been taking advantage of that as well. Laws yes! Embarrassing! :blush: I am about to fall asleep here and now! I would like a large bowl of coffee with lots of milk and some sugar please.

Wow, a year already?
When I first opened the Cantina, it was mostly a lark. I thought a few people might come in, order a drink, then carry on with the rest of the forum and forget all about it. But thanks to everyone's patronage, and John's care of the place during my sabbatical, it's become a place where good people gather and share whatever's going on in their (your, our) lives. And so do assorted pets. (I'm trying to ignore that pile of... whatever that is... in the corner and maintain a dignified demeanor as I write this. Give me a minute and I'll be running for the spray bleach and paper towels, but for now I'm writing a speech, darnitall). All things Ka are welcome here, and that's what makes this place special. I'm a member of other boards dedicated to other subjects, and not one of them can touch the character of the people who wander in here. We're not just hungry for burgers and beer when we cross the doorstep to the cantina. We want company and conversation, and we get the best of both.
Thanks for remembering the anniversary, Madam, and to everybody else I'm privileged to know because this place is still standing. You're the best, all of you. The shmaltz police will probably be knocking the door down in a minute, but I'll press my luck and say that I heart you guys (my daughter's phrase).

Fellow Tet-Mates, I share with you the sad news of another member's loss.

Motherwolf's aunt passed unexpectedly. Here is Motherwolf's post in Poignant Moments.


Great thread Wolf-Red and GREAT moment that inspired it! I guess the last really poignant moment for me was seeing my Aunt for the first time after her recent stroke and other problems. We were very lucky to see her and talk to her. And it was the way she looked at me and smiled when she saw my face, and how she immediately opened her arms for a hug and a kiss. ( She has never been overly affectionate like I am) That's the memory of her face that I will have etched in my mind till I die. She died last night quite unexpectedly. Bloods clots in her kidneys. It was a good death and at a good time. The days she had after her FULL recovery from the stroke were a mercy.They were so well spent! Things were said and done that REALLY needed saying and doing. She had her Priest and Last Rites. She saw and spoke with all of us (hadn't done that in ages) and was READY. Wolf-Red! Your beautiful poem in the 'Poetry' thread is a comfort and says it all! Thankyou for putting it there! I will MISS her SO, and I am so sorry that the cub will not have the joy of knowing and arguing with her as I did!( "Bye Aunt Sha! I Love You! But I know I will see you again!") She really looked so happy to see me! THAT I won't ever forget!

Motherwolf... I'm so sorry love. Still, to know that you were able to spend your Aunt's final days with her - saying the things that so many do not get a chance to say - must give you some comfort. Probably not enough,though. Thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

In Irish tradition, it is customary to gather to raise a glass (non-alcoholic is fine) and speak kindly of the dead. Oscar, an Irish coffee please... To Motherwolf's Aunt. She was much loved by her family and she will be missed.

I spent some time in the library reading the links, while listening to the great music Tery posted from Hawa'i and Dragafari from Jamaica, and sitting on the patio in the cybershine drinking and smoking. Bliss!

Came across a great Hawai'in word in the Hunter S. Thompson link that exemplified Tery's point about Hawai'in music having two meanings. Hunter S. used to sign off his letters with the word 'mahalo' which apparently can be translated as either 'may you be in divine breath' or 'thank you' (I know which I prefer!).

Mornin' sucks today. I just finished reading Blaze. I thought it was a very good story. I'll keep my mouth shut on the rest of it in case there are folks here who have not read it yet.

I read that little preview 'Memory' that was at the end of Blaze. What happened with Gandalf broke my heart because a few years ago I had a dog killed by a vehicle, and today just happens to be the 2-yr anniversary of my other dog's passing (I had her put down due to cancer). It's just hard, ya know?

I think I'll just grab a cup of tea and come back tomorrow instead.

I haven't been able to go after a ball that is too far into the rough ever since I read Stephen's short story about the guy who almost got autopsied after a snake bite he got on the golf course. Purrtricia, I hope you aren't seeing this message. :biggrin2: I hope that your loved ones have kidnapped you and are forcing you to have a perfectly wonderful day - a Ferris Bueller day! However, when you do receive this message, I just want you to know that I've brought two cakes (both chocolate I'm afraid... For some reason my yellow cakes are dry as dust.) Now picture this, and picture it well (because I'm not as clever as you guys with this posting stuff I'm going to have to just describe it)... The first is three layers. It is adorned with plump red raspberries and shaved white chocolate on milk chocolate frosting. Nestled inside is a layer of more fresh whole berries and another of fresh raspberry preserves. The other cake is two layers of chocolate and caramel and Heath Bar crunchies... Both are completely calorie free - No, I lie... I'm pretty sure that just reading about these will add 5 calories to our lives, but when better to live a little, eh? Happy Birthday ma'am.

I'm heading out to the patio to look at the lovely view of Big Rock Candy Mountain. Frozen margaritas are my specialty. Grand Goldens anyone? I'm blending.

Judging by your location, I probably did not feel the quake. There are quite a few smaller quakes in my area a lot of the time. Releasing the pressure, I hope. They say that when there is the big one in my corner of the world, we are looking at an 8 or 9. Oh joy.

Earthquakes aren't too common in this part of the country but it sure woke me up this morning-the headboard of my iron bed was slamming against the wall, kinda like, well you know...:blush:

My west coast family and friends all called to check up, I think the news said it was a 5.4 or something, pretty stout but nothing like those in Cali I remember. No damage or injuries so it's all good.

I brought in fresh strawberries and whipped cream, dig in everybody! Yummmm, and have a great weekend!

I spent this past winter...which, in Eastern Oregon, is gone now...in this abandoned church building. It has been a very unique experience. I'm going to take photos before I leave next week.
I have done many unusual things. And this moment in my lifetime has been no exception.
The reason why I am posting this here is because, throughout the winter, I have often thought that Stephen King should visit this town. I am assuming that he never has and I could be wrong, of course. But just in case he hasn't...it would be my humble suggestion.

What's it been like to live in an abandoned church building in this odd little town?...My experience here has been just like living in the Stephen King novel that he hasn't written yet.

Greetings and salutations all! This is school vacation week 'round these heah parts. So, off to do educational stuff with the children. Maybe over to "the rude bridge that arched the flood" where "with their flags to April's breeze unfurled. There once the embattled farmers stood and" blah, blah, blah. The weather promises to be fair for the next few days and it seems a crime to not get out and enjoy it. I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend - especially Ms. Mod, who does so much for us.

I doubt that I'll get a chance to visit much for the next few days. Computer time is more strictly rationed when we all need to share. Still, I'll be thinking of you guys and checking in whenever I can wrest the keyboard from the boys' sweaty little fingers. Stay well and don't do anything fun while I'm gone. :biggrin2: Only kidding. Do lots of fun stuff... I can always read about it later.

Well, have a happy Earth Day, ya'll. And maybe someone will eventually write a story about Birth Day. That story could be written here. "...nothin' but the dead and dying back in my little town."

Yeah, Birth Day...the direct opposite of Earth Day. It should be this town's name. "Yeah" he said...pitching the styrofoam clambox from his fast food breakfast out the window. The gravel growled as his old pickup truck pulled away. The blue smoke from the truck exhaust pipe sent a signal that he was on a mission to contribute more emission into the rural, dusty air.

And the styrofoam package rolled away in the wind.

Finally, it blew into a ditch and stopped. Which wouldn't have mattered to anyone in that area if it had just maintained its position as a lost piece of litter. But when the rain poured over it that night...something very strange happened: Like a seed that responds to the first Spring rain...it transformed into a living piece of evil. The first of many ecological curses upon the Earth...on Birth Day.

Well, been without internet/cable and phone for two days, since our ISP (Virgin) had problems, and any calls to them were met with a recorded apology and an ASAP promise. VERY irritating. Jokes were made about Virgin going down (badly) on Britain.

Other than that, I've been having a strange, magical and wonderfully exciting time of late! I hope all is well with you and yours, and thankee for the pics, Flakey.

Something on my mind these days. I am making a point of not reminding my husband that my birthday is coming up, but I am afraid that he will forget about it. It has always seemed like an afterthought to him. Shoot, I get to be 40 in a week, and I don't even know if he will remember. There's just that little need to see if he will, to see if he notices things like that anymore.

Geez, I need caffeine in RT. I had better be making some of that in a few minutes. I have caffeinated chai mints that I buy. I'm chomping on those in the meantime. :smile2:

Okay, I am lost! I am sorry I have been MIA so much! I have just been getting a rough time at work. We are detail cleaning walls and stuff, besides my normal chore list which is quite long if you ask me. I am also suppose to wash dishes from the employee's cafe as well. I am here to let you all know that though I am sore and feel like I have been beaten with a very large knotty ugly stick, I am still alive at least.

Quick story - my pregnant daughter-in-law, Kareen, came in last night feeling a little queasy after satisfying a craving for A Big Mac. She picked up the cordless phone to call her mother, but was suddenly overtaken by instant nausea and rushed to the bathroom with the phone where she inadvertently vomited on it and then dropped it down the toilet. I think the phone has been killed by a regurgitated Big Mac! BTW I posted something about Kareen in Poems.

Thankee for asking, Mstay; yes, things are going EXTREMELY well at the moment - I feel like I'm 19 again! Hope all is well for everyone and their's.
