Patricia, it's great that you welcomed this Native American Medicine Man to our Cantina!!!

I am Absolutely Fascinated with ANYTHING to do with Native Americans and their culture - anyone care to enlighten me? - would we have enough to start another thread?

I ran into this Native American Medicine Man on my way here and asked him to come to the Cantina with me to help tend to our sick and ailing people. He was reluctant at first, then when I told him we were all SK fans he agreed immediately and said he just loved "Firestarter," Hmmm......... Looks like he might could be Lakota! I've got some fry bread in me bag! (He'll like that and everyone else too!) I'll have to take out back with me for a visit with Sally, Thunderhorse and Pegasus! He's gonna love everyone in the Ark!

I was very privledged to take a course given by a Lakota Shaman a few years ago. A book- The Rainbow Tribe by Ed Mcgaa was suggested reading. It deals with a modern day movement to unite people back to the basic Native American Way of Life.

The following is a site with explanation and further links. It might be very interesting to start a thread on Native American Culture.

Morning, morning, morning everyone! (Gwen rushes in in a panic, almost falling over the boots by the door) Where's the coffee pot!! I need coffee! Mine died this morning and I made an unsuccessful attempt at making a cup in the microwave at home full of grinds - better than nothing. Took it down to the barn and my horse reached out of his stall and knocked the cup over with his nose and it broke on the floor. On my way here, I almost slid sideways through an intersection on the ice when another car ran the red light. I'm having a stressful morning. Oh! We have the good stuff here too. Mmmmm. Okay, I'm better now. :grinning:

WELL!!! Thanks so much to everyone for all the love!!! Its such a joy to come on here and see everyone's good wishes coming my way.

i am home at last but still very much on the road to recovery. wont be back at work for another couple of weeks. luckily i'm not one to pull a sickie when i get the hours so i have plenty of sick leave available to me to make sure i'm taken care of while i cant work.

as john said...i've had my gall bladder removed...spent about 5 days in hospital not fun. i've never spent time in hospital before and was a little scared by the whole thing but i ended up with a hot surgeon who helped keep a smile on my face :biggrin2: Still very sore but thats on the mend but am sleeping massive amounts which strikes me as a little weird. and with no gall bladder, big changes have to occur in my diet. i had no idea a gall bladder did anything...i thought it was like the appendix but apparently it *does* serve a purpose. who knew?!? certain fats have to be cut way down if not eliminated completley....which is a total sadface cause i *love* burgers and chips...

anyway, we'll have to store up the cantina with lots of nonfat foods for me and anyone else who feels the need to improve on diet...

oh look...bean sprouts....yum...:glare:

Large hot hot hot coffee for me please and some cinnamon toast. Man, do I wish I were at home in bed. An exciting bunch you all are. I had to play ketchup on the posts because I don't get to the internet much.

Ayla, I hope your recovery continues going well.
Didn't quite catch the name, but your mother is in my prayers.

As for me, I am now medicated:oo: I am feeling better this week and hope things continue to go up but if not. I have doctors to talk to, and hopefully in a few weeks the medicine will set me centered again because it is hard to walk off balance! :P

Mother Wolf! A fine beer it is *big slurp before sliding the glass back to her* I have brought some green tea that has strawberries and oranges in it as well. I have been a little under the weather as well, sinus cold but I like drinking herbal teas like the one I brought. It is good, an ale or beer I am just thristy!

Good whatever it is to you all! It is freezing in Sierra Mountains in California. It is suppose to snow all week, so far it has done little of that and just freeze me...

*big yawn* I am sleepy, not ready to go do the stuff for the new job but I am going any ways, because I want to work and have my g/f quit supporting me. Though, don't all authors have their wives support them sometime in their life?

Prays, Hugs, and Thoughts,

Well, hello tet-mates! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We had one helluva weekend here in Oregon as far as our weather is concerned. Here at my place we ended up getting about 6 inches of snow, and more is in the forecast. They even had 4 inches accumulate on the coast! This is very rare. I also heard California was getting their share of the windy, wet weather as well. Mudslides all over and such. Hope everyone is safe. You are all in my prayers. I am so cold today, I just can't seem to get warm. I am so ready for Spring! I'll be taking my hot jasmine tea over by the fireplace and try to thaw out. Watch out for my snow boots by the front door, don't want anyone tripping over them. I didn't want to track snow all over the floor!:smile2:

I'm sure your icy roads aren't going anywhere anytime soon!!!! I've brought a present/decoration for the Cantina!!! I was looking at the calender yesterday and realized that Mardi Gras/ Fat Tuesday is fast approaching! I have brought a beaded curtain that CubJax and I made the summer before last! My Smokin'Joe had spent 7 months in New Orleans wiring and rewiring homes that had been in the floods. He had found a small 'Harrah's' Back pack high up in an attic where the waters hadn't reached. It was filled with MardiGras love beads of everykind! It must have been from some ones very festive Mardi Gras!! He brought them to us, on one of his visits home, and we separated them and hung them on hangers from our our hall door. There were tons of them and the colors really looked beautiful hanging all together like that. So we wondered what we could do with them, it would be a shame just to put them back in abag and store them away somewhere. So the only obvious thing to do was to make a beaded curtain! Took about 2 days out on the patio, but it was fun and turned out really well! We have always really liked it because it is from Katrina and made for all the people who suffered that terrible Hurricane! It is for all the victims and for all the Survivors like our IZZYBOOSEY!!! HI ALL still suffring from DK shellshock, but i don't care. large coffee to have me jitterbugging all the way to the ceiling :). feeling serious pity for all the people i know, my excitment in the run up to Duma key was very much my "coming out" as a bookworm. but it has since made me realise just how unenlightened the average teenager is in this day and age. i have yet to find ONE person i know who reads frequenty, indeed many of them have only read one or two books in their LIVES. over the past week i've taken a fair amount of good natured stick for my reading habits but instead of annoying me i simply feel sorry for the individual sayng it and the society that to a large extent is responsible for their saying it. i know a good number of people who, if made to read the likes of 'salems lot or Hannibal would love it, but there is a disgusting subculture (a least where i live) that forbids this on the grounds that it's "uncool". many of the people i refer to here pride themselves on being individual and their own person and all the usual high handed teenage BS and i often feel like screaming at them for being drawn along in this matter so easily. it's Pathetic! case in point- having caught a glimpse of a certain piece of DK involving a dog, one of my friends laughed and asked "why could't he write something like that movie cujo". at this point my left arm instinctively spasmed in the direction of his face before i dragged him to waterstones where i shoved the novel cujo under his nose in disgust. please for the love of god tell me the rest of the world isn't so dim :( . although from what i've seen of the people currently running it, that appears a futile hope.
sorry for the length of the post, but i have strong feelings about this and had to get it off my chest. please let me know what you think :)

Craig :P

Craig, if it makes you feel any better, my daughter, now 22, has been a reader since she could read (if that makes sense). She got/gets a lot of crap for reading SK, too. When I was a kid, my friends used to criticize me for reading, but I've never regretted it.
Think of it this way: you & I are members (tee hee) of a message board set up by a brilliant, best-selling author for his readers. Now only that, we have separate threads to discusss other authors we like and what other books we're reading. The world may have moved on but this place is a pretty good corner of it.

Craig, I do have some years on you in age, well, MANY years. Am happy to see you reading and enjoying what you read. Never loose that. Reading opens whole worlds to you. And Sai King's works are awesome. The character development alone can teach you so much.

I tend to think it is a generation thing why teens don't read. Maybe too much technology keeps them busy instead. I have a granddaughter- a teenger- who reads constantly. Maybe their creative abilities are side tracked by "required readings".

And your example of Cujo is perfect. Just keep reading, Craig. Enjoy the fruits of SK great talent. Hail the Wordslinger, and Hail Craig for reading.

HI ALL still suffring from DK shellshock, but i don't care. large coffee to have me jitterbugging all the way to the ceiling :). feeling serious pity for all the people i know, my excitment in the run up to Duma key was very much my "coming out" as a bookworm. but it has since made me realise just how unenlightened the average teenager is in this day and age. i have yet to find ONE person i know who reads frequenty, indeed many of them have only read one or two books in their LIVES. over the past week i've taken a fair amount of good natured stick for my reading habits but instead of annoying me i simply feel sorry for the individual sayng it and the society that to a large extent is responsible for their saying it. i know a good number of people who, if made to read the likes of 'salems lot or Hannibal would love it, but there is a disgusting subculture (a least where i live) that forbids this on the grounds that it's "uncool". many of the people i refer to here pride themselves on being individual and their own person and all the usual high handed teenage BS and i often feel like screaming at them for being drawn along in this matter so easily. it's Pathetic! case in point- having caught a glimpse of a certain piece of DK involving a dog, one of my friends laughed and asked "why could't he write something like that movie cujo". at this point my left arm instinctively spasmed in the direction of his face before i dragged him to waterstones where i shoved the novel cujo under his nose in disgust. please for the love of god tell me the rest of the world isn't so dim :( . although from what i've seen of the people currently running it, that appears a futile hope.
sorry for the length of the post, but i have strong feelings about this and had to get it off my chest. please let me know what you think :)

i have been a big stephen king fan for years! i have read them all, i am now rereading insomnia, just finished rereading rose madder and have read the dark tower series twice and i am 26. i love reading and i am ahuge stephen king fan and i can not wait to read duma key, i just have not gotten it yet, but i LOVED lisey's story. such a great story and i fell in love with lisey and her endearing husband. a good story but oh my god, scott's long boy creeped me out! but i love how king uses so many characters in so many books, he uses bool in insomnia and lisey's story, just little things here and there that you see in his books. so for the person who said they do not see many readers that read alot of his books, i am defiantly one of them!

I am doing better, I actually sleep at night now :eek2: I actually know what a bed is now.

Beads! I bet that curtain just looks great Mother Wolf. Is it Angry Beaver that is getting called names, hang in there. I was the king of misfits in my high school years and I just stuck through because I knew that I was smarter. Half of the kids that picked on me ended up staying an extra year while I graduated on time. I didn't let the names bother me, sometimes I got into a lot of fights because I was TOO QUIET. I better go before I leave a long winded post up like Mother Wolf.

Good morning all. A new month already, and a Leap Year too.

Don't forget about Ground Hog Day on Saturday :smile2:

Made a large pot of hot drinks, hot coco, coffees, teas and even some of the "hard stuff". It seems to be pretty cold and snowy in most parts. Be careful out there.

Heading to the bean bags..........

Pretty easy job, just a lot of cleaning in such a little time. :eyebrow: Tomorrow Eve I work by myself so let us hope that I don't make a bigger mess trying to clean the place. :dizzy: Mother Wolf, I indeed know how it is to be poor. At least I get a lunch for working at the casino and the little I have is used for the bus. One more last thing, I need an extra large coffee with lots of milk and some sugar please!

Something I found when I searched http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog_day:

In the United States the tradition derives from a Scottish poem:

As the light grows longer
The cold grows stronger
If Candlemas be fair and bright
Winter will have another flight
If Candlemas be cloud and snow
Winter will be gone and not come again
A farmer should on Candlemas day
Have half his corn and half his hay
On Candlemas day if thorns hang a drop
You can be sure of a good pea crop

This tradition also stems from similar beliefs associated with Candlemas Day[3] and Groundhog Day. Candlemas, also known as the Purification of the Virgin or the Presentation, coincides with the earlier pagan observance Imbolc.

Hello everybody!(Unlacing ice skates by the door. hee hee)
Everything is covered in ice this morning. It is pretty though, trees, powerlines, fencelines, etc. and more coming down by the minute.

From the Movie: Ground hog day.
Phil: Well, it's Groundhog Day... again... and that must mean we're up here at Gobbler's Knob waiting for the forecast from the world's most-famous groundhog weatherman, Punxsutawney Phil, who's just about to tell us how much more winter we can expect.

I've got a cute 'horse' story to go with tomorrow. I have a horse named Phil. Today is his birthday. He was born about 8pm five years ago today. I went to the barn about 5am the next morning, Groundhog Day, to check on him. The heatlamp in the stall was casting his shadow on the back wall which he was chasing back and forth. He did not go out of the barn for a month because we had a major ice storm followed by blizzards and sub zero temperatures for weeks. I laughed and said Phil saw his shadow. To this day I do not turn the lights on in his stall on the morning of Feb 2nd.
Phil may have a new brother or sister this weekend. maybe?

Everyone have a safe, healthy, and happy one.

((Everybody))

Bonjour!! It’ Mardi Gras at the Ka Tet Cantina!!!!!

Gwen bursts through the door wearing a feather mask of green, purple, and gold feathers hanging beads on and kissing everyone. Then jumps over the bar and turns up the volume on the stereo to Mary Chapin Carpenter’s Twist and Shout.

Put your books away. Gar ici, there will be no fais do-do, alohrs pas! (Look here, there will be no sleeping, of course not! In Cajun speak.) Today it’s partytime!

So Madam Mack you can take the mongoose of your head today, it’s Buckwheat Zydeco!

Gwen flips two bottles from under the bar, juggles two shot glasses in the air, catches one in front and one in back.
Motherwolf, what’s your poison? Jose or Patrone? We’ll have you dancing on the bar in your shades, black boots, and your bad self in no time.

Spidey, we’ve got at special Cajun herbal tea for you today!

Volic, Kim, Bookworm, Sai Jen, Mstay, Lotus, Anni M, Marianne, and the whole Ka Tet Crew. We’ve got fresh coffee, teas, juice, top shelf liquor, and beers from the best places all over the world. In the back help yourself to the buffet. I hear someone made a few huge pots of delicious crawfish gumbo! The drink special today is the Storm of the Century Hurricane. Angrybeaver I can make a special one for you sans liquor.
Charms, you look absolutely stunning in your sequin Mardi Gras mask! Rose Key are you still wearing that cool blue lipstick under yours?

Cowboy, Papawolf, boys are you ready for a beer?
Patricia does your friend with the red shoes dance Zydeco?

We can move the bean bag chairs back a little and make room for the dance floor. Thank you, John , although he didn’t know it, booked Jo El Sonniet for the Cantina today.

Slides down the bar two large double shot Irish Whiskey, shot of espresso and a shot of cream down to Cola and John which John reaches out and stops without spilling a drop.

Everyone I may have missed or aren’t here yet, come in, dance, eat, drink
and Le Carnival!

Laissez les bons temps rouler

Good morning to all. Hope the night was good for all. May Mother Nature calm her ways and return to normal times. Enough of this weird weather.

Motherwolf in our hearts until you return. You know how I feel:smile2:

think I'll spend a little time out back with the critters today. The sun is shinning and they appear somewhat playful.

Grabbing herbal tea and heading outside.

Take care all...........

Good Whatever Everyone!!!

You'll be sorely missed, Motherwolf, but we all understand perfectly.

Oh and I brought some fresh baked bread especially for Ms. Mod for her "good looking out" for us... I am a dufus! But I think ya love me anyhow. By the way, I didn't bake the bread myself so it should be good.
A large black coffee for me. I'll be out on the patio waiting for Mother Wolf to come back!

Hi,

That's a beautiful, dare I say 'trippy'?, butter label. Pat. Native American imagery, and I'm sure it tastes as good as it looks.

Just one thing - I notice that it says 1 lb = 453g. In the UK 1 lb = 454g, so what does this mean?

Are the UK getting a little bit extra in every lb?

Are the US getting a little bit less?

We should know!!!!!

Long days and pleasant nights
