*holds out a cold one for Cowboy*

Had to try some of those things. Yesterday consumed a lot of energy with the tattoo and all the celebrating and cooking and dancing and general party attitude... not to mention very little sleep.

Good Morning, Everyone!
Hope everyone had a terrific weekend and a good Beltane, for those who celebrate. When I was a kid, we celebrated May Day by filling up construction-paper baskets with local flowers (lily of the valley, Dutchman's breeches, lilacs, violets) and candy, leaving them on neighbors' front porches, ringing the doorbell & running away.

Hi,

Welcome home, Ms Mod, you've been missed !!!!

And everyone else too, of course!

I hope everyone's had a good time and is looking forward to the MB opening again as much as I am.

That seemed like a long break (especially the todash darkness!), but no doubt was all too passing short for Ms Mod - Time is soft, after all.

Well, I've had a marvellous weekend personally, I hope all manner o' things may be well with you and yours.

Large Irish coffee please.

Boy it seems like forever since the light was on in the cantina. Good to see everyone. It was strange going todash there for a couple of days. Wow how I miss this board. I had the best mothers day. We hiked up to Forest Falls and had a picnic in the most beautiful canyon. The best thing, no electronics get any kind of signal up there. No cell phones, no internet.... just the sound of the rushing falling water and the creek near by. The oak trees form a canopy overhead and the sunlight just twinkles though the branches. I will post some pictures in an album on my profile later on today or tomorrow. It was funny to see my children so out of their element, at first they had no idea what to do up there. I hope everyone elses weekend was as wonderful as mine. :bat:

Oh I forgot to add something to my previous post. My kids bought a collection of 32 of SK's movies for me for mothers day. I don't know where they got them, but it was a huge box. They told me that since there were no new books of his to get me, they would start me on collecting his movies. :grinning: The only ones I had before were IT and Storm of the Century. :bat:

It's good to be back in here! I'll take a cup of green tea with mint in it.

After having too many brutal Saturdays at work, I've decided to talk to the manager about it. I want to take one Saturday out of every eight off. If I can't step away from the weekend problems once in a while, I'll go totally loony and perhaps hurt someone or myself. I figure one Saturday in eight will give me something to look forward to, some hope. It might be a plan.

Opinions?

I think I will mention one in six, but aim for one in eight. I don't want to hurt my bottom line too much, but I was thinking that I might use those Saturdays to try to concentrate on my art instead, or to continue with the carving I am working on. Sanity-saving stuff.

I talked to the manager at work last night about how the Saturday shifts are sucking the life out of me. I explained that I would like to take off a Saturday every other month, starting with May 30th, that it would only be six in a year, etc. She is okay with it... especially since I told her that I almost quit my job on Saturday. I need those days off as a release because I always carry the worst of the stress each Saturday at work.

I am looking forward to having a Saturday off once in a while. It's a good feeling.

There was a staff meeting last night while I was at work and after some of the cashiers and merchandisers were whining about a few things, the manager pointed out that without some changes, three staffers (including me) are the ones always taking the brunt of it and that it has to change. It means some long-timers will be put into shifts they don't care for, probably.

Anyways, I need a four-shot latte made with whole milk and a lot of vanilla syrup to sustain me this morning.

I can't take off too many more than that. *chuckles* I'm the floor supervisor on the weekend, as well as any other incidental roles I have to play, including cashier supervisor or merchandiser or security. They put a lot of responsibility on my shoulders and it has to be that way because they normally give me the younger staffers to work with and I'm apparently the mature one that can take care of the trouble without bloodshed.

There are people who have worked there over 30 years who still get to work weekend shifts. It'll be three years at the end of June for me.

That one shift every couple of months will be a sanity saver, as well as educating the ones who have to fill in for me on how hard of a job I have been handed.

Now... for caffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeine!

I'll just grab a four-shot latte this morning with double vanilla syrup. I need some happy-juice.

Good morning all. Had a wonderful but HOT weekend. It was in the low 100's here yesterday. Went to a nice car show, that was in the shade, and had a great time. Now riding home in the classic was not so fun. It has no a/c, and the heat that comes off of the headers into the car is well uncomfortable as hell. Los Angeles had an earthquake last night, a 5.0. Felt it here, but not much else. I finished my re read of Misery and have started on George Orwell's 1984. Have you checked out rain barrels that you connect to your downspouts? They can catch an amazing amount of water from even a little bit of rain that you can use for watering your garden and aren't that expensive. Of course, getting the rain is a major part of the equation.

I have buckets out, but no rainfall. It truly sucks. If California was more careful with their rain water we would not have this major of a problem. We need to build something to hold our rain run off. Most of it just flows into the ocean when we get rain. Stupidity really. :glare::bat:

I'm sure there's something near you, just get rid of your shoes and get reaaaallllll used to eating leaves and stuff. ;) Ok, I'm kidding about the shoes, but not so much about the leaves.

I never lived in a commune, but I lived in a "co-operative vegetarian house" when I was first married. It was extremely trying at times, but a lot of fun, too. Trying because there were up to 10 people (including babies) with very different lifestyles crammed together and attempting a lot of things we had no idea how to do. We had to manage our own repairs (did you know that you HAVE to put a wax ring under a toilet if you pull it up? If not the floor gets all squishy and the toilet starts rocking. :oo: )

We planted a garden, grew sprouts, and made a lot of food from scratch. We were all completely broke, so we got as much of the stuff we needed, for personal use or for the house, from thrift shops or out of dumpsters. We also had to essentially create a form of government so that everyone had a job to do, and no one felt taken advantage of. And we had to manage the grocery budget for everyone, somehow we all lived on $15/person/week. We had a lot of House Meetings to decide how to do all of this. I picked up a heck of a lot more "life tools" there than I did in college!

It was loads of fun, too. You never knew who was going to show up, or how many people there'd be for dinner, and the door was always open. People would stop by, and end up staying on the couch for a few weeks, so there was always something going on. One time a guy parked a giant schoolbus there and lived in it while everyone tried to help him fix the transmission. Good times!

Really, Ms. Mod, it's not too late! Now I'm thinking about it again...

Another dry year for us, but for the moment I don’t mind. I like this springlike autumn a lot. :smile2:

Poisonbat, you might want to try MsMod’s idea. I can’t believe laws are getting that strict there about water. I know we have to take care and avoid spoiling water, but you cannot even water your plants pots? You’re recycling the shower water. Isn’t the soap hurting the plants? I wish I could send you some water for the garden. I hope you get some rain real soon.

Good afternoon everybody! Spidey brought the sweets, I’m bringing what we call a “picada” (cheese, olives, cold meats, ham, salami, etc).

If we were still using regular soap it probably would. But no we are using a biodegradable soap that is safe. The plants appreciate it even when you dump the last of your iced tea on them. But it is a very serious problem. I would love to have some of that rain Spidey, I really would. :bat:

I've been working on taxes. Here in Canada you have until June 15th if someone is self-employed, and because my man is, I get to file with him. He's going to drop the stuff off at the accountant's place today and then it is OUT of my hair!! Woohooo!!! I HATE TAX TIME with a passion that starts to equal how much I love many things, including my dog. Tax time is probably the closest we ever come to divorce here.

I'll just be out on the patio with my tea and some smokes. I plan to hide out there until it is time for me to go to work.

So the genesis of the SKMB was in 'Spring' '99 which makes it ten years old today, and today's just as good a day to celebrate as any so lets call today the MB's tenth birthday, 28th May, since Ii sounds like the actual date is lost in the mist of antiquity.

Thankee big-big, Cowboy. I need that hit.

Tomorrow will be a day off for me once I am done with the farmer's market. I don't work tomorrow. (YAY!!) I do work a full one tonight, though, so I won't be hurtin' for hours this week, at least. There's a lot of uncertainty with the new system the corporation has shoved down our throats. Management hasn't been able to put out a completed week-long schedule once with the new system so no one can actually plan to have a life. I have no idea what I am working on Sunday or beyond. Sucks pretty bad. With the old system we'd get two weeks at a time for scheduling as a rule, sometimes more.

I'll hold on, and see how I survive this shiit.

Day off number two! I'm hoping for a better day today. Yesterday tanked when I had an asthma attack. I'm feeling more like myself today.

I'll be taking a four-shot latte with vanilla syrup today. Much to do! I want to work on my art. I have one painting that just needs about 15 minutes of work to finish, and then I want to start something BIG. I have huge sheets of watercolour paper and I am just itching to put some colour down on them.

Today is my Friday (woo hoo!), so I'm celebrating: here's a lovely cherry tart (I took the 1st slice).

Hey you guys... Been away one week, just hiding on my shell to digest the bad news. Last week I was fired after 6 yrs. in the same place. It came unexpectably. My coworkers were in shock as me. Good luck Matt. I know the feeling, but I can't afford to give notice. At least the manager knows that if she wants to toss me an extra Saturday night off once in a while aside from the ones I already marked off on her calender, it's okay. It sure won't break my heart, even if I lose a few bucks that way. I just don't want to let my job kill me, ya know.

I had a bad night at work last night. A customer who had been eating nuts came to my till when I was helping out at the front. She leaned in really close to say something to me and my lungs started to close on me. What a way to ruin my night.

Hi,

You probably already know this one, but my wife used to chop up fresh herbs in season, put them in the sections of an ice-cube tray, top them up with water and freeze them, then put the frozen cubes in a bag marked 'Sage' (or whatever.

It meant that she just had to chuck an ice-cube of whatever in a sauce, and they kept all year.

Sorry if everyone does that, but I thought it was a great idea.

I just saw a neat "project" to do with watermelons in one of my parent magazines. Cut it like a jack-o-lantern, and put a candle in it too! I'm going to make some for the 4th of July (and of course, make a huge fruit salad in the process) with cut out moons and stars.

Going to an out-of-town meeting this morning; had to wake up early. Early-morning awakening is a highly overrated activity IMO. Lots of hot coffee for me, please.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi ya'all! THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for all the nice thoughts. They are really appreciated. I also want to wish my best for the many friends in here that are feeling sad, with health issues, in between jobs, or with family troubles. Let's hope skies will get clearer and we will feel happy again soon enough. Anyway, thank you for the all the support we all receive in here, which is much needed in these times.

I'm sorry I don't have good news. I'm still unemployed. Will send fresh CV's on Monday to a bunch of companies even I don't want to work at another commercial company, but bills have to be paid, right? I'm seeing if I get Internet at home (a good old friend offered me a laptop, so I'll be offering my translation services online. This sounds a little poor as I write it, but I'm good at it). I also thought about possible ways to start a business of my own, related to things I like to do a lot, like chocolate bonbons, or a pet keeping business (you know how much I love dogs especially, but everything needs to be carefully thought, and I can't think clearly at this time, I'm a little scared, sometimes I feel mad, sometimes a little depressed, but... it's normal).

OK, have to stop this by now. Big hug to everyone, in need or not. Thank you once again, sincerelly. Let's hope things will improve someday soon.

*sneaks in late Sunday night, taking a bottle of Stoli out and pouring herself a glass*

What a weekend. I am glad my weekend only starts late Monday night. Three days off coming up this week.

If I'm still here in the morning, just toss a blanket over me and let me sleep. I'm still somewhat under the weather.

Good Monday to all. Hope we survived the weekend. Mother Nature forgot her chill pills again. Way too much rain in many parts of the states. And the other extreme of heat in others.

Hope all the dads enjoyed their special day.

Tall glass of iced herbal tea and off to bean bag central. Come join the fun.........

I have died and gone to internet hell. I get about 3 minutes of internet time before the weak signal gives out and leaves me in blackness. It is SUPER slow, I miss my FIOS so much. Large Irish coffee for me this morning, I need it.

Home with a migraine today so I don't dare have coffee or anything other than ice water (and essence of lavender). Already slept the morning away.

*wanders in late at night after work carrying a blanket, drags two bean bag chairs out on the patio to make a bean bag bed, and comes back inside for a moment to grab a couple of Cokes*

I'll be outside star gazing tonight, if anyone wants to join me.

*heads back outside and settles in to watch the sky*

Good morning folks, hope all is well. Preparing to take the kids to the happiest place on Earth (No, not Cheyenne Frontier Days)....this would be the kids happiest place on Earth, Disney World. I am looking forward to acting like a kid myself and seeing how bad I can embarrass my 16 year old daughter. By the way, me wearing a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, grass skirt and coconut bra didn't embarrass her as bad as I thought it would at her 16th birthday party. I can tell you that my 14 year old son was quite embarrassed when we were waiting for him to come out of a store, and I was hanging out the window yelling his name and calling him sweetie....."Over here sweetie, we are parked over here", "Daddy is waiting on you".....It was very busy and I didn't know his face could turn so many shades of red. Hey, I like to have fun.

Spidey, please say hello to Galli for me.

It is so hot in Houston today, we are taking precautions against spontaneous human combustion.

May all Tet-Mates be healthy and happy today and always!

*wanders in from the great outdoors*

The sky was great last night. I was looking at the stars until after 3 am. Wow. I love doing that.

Today is one of my days off and I already turned down an offer for work because I am going to make soap today. I think I'll just take some Cokes to go and head on out soon.

Have a great day folks! It's turning out to be lovely here.

What happens at Cheyenne Frontier Days? When I was in school at UNC we would get ads for Frontier Days, but I never really knew what it was about. Even though we're south of Denver now, it's still pretty much in striking distance if we wanted to go.

Hmmmmm, I'll have to learn more about it!
