So, what flavour is a red velvet cake? I have only heard of them.

What kind of red dye gets used? I used to be a baker and cake decorator and I remember that red was the FOULEST tasting colour I had to use, and it was generally used sparingly or with a caveat to the person requesting it.

It's kinda got a chocolate flavor. It gets 2 oz of paste coloring (flavorless). The best part of it is the cooked frosting---very rich and buttery, but not too sweet, just right....Yum :)

Good evening everyone!^^

Sundrop, love the cake! *yummy*

Worked today, then went to a sauna and I plan to go now every week or so, it was very cool being there after a couple of years at least!

We don't work on Monday (and possibly even Tuesday) due to holiday, so I look forward to this long weekend ahead!

Good evening all, almost Friday and hope all the Tet-Mates have a relaxing couple of

Yes, Spidey it has warmed up alot and thank god we didn't have ice but it was pretty

*wulfey walks into the Cantina. He has headphones on his ears and the cd player is playing Metallica's For Whom the Bells Tolls... He takes his cowboy hat off and sets it on the stool before him*
I would like a big bowl of cereal. I am better today. Better than I have been in the last two months. Besides a mild allergic reaction to an earring in my ear; I am good. I am allergic to some metals. I have to have gold, silver and the blue ball stud in my ear is titanium. It appears that my body likes this one better. So, no ear pulling or pinching Wulfey please! Thank you.
Thank you big-big Tet Mates. Now that I have all my marbles in a row; I believe I will be doing better. G/f is hanging in there with me; kind makes me want to get her something very special for christmas.

It's rich, and the frosting is so good and very unlike a standard buttercream or what have you. Takes a jillion years to prepare, too.

I've been busy and haven't been around, so I just thought I'd pop into the cantina and say how-do. I'll have a big mocha frappuccino, with whipped cream.

So, sort of chocolatey, huh? I'll take a slice.

John, they used to use cochineal beetles to make that red colouring in North America, but now I think that practice might be restricted to developing nations now. Lots of people react badly to the bug colour.

Happy Monday! (You guys must get tired of hearing me say that:biggrin2:) Had a relaxing AND productive weekend, not a common combination. Good Wife came around and got some Christmas buying, wrapping and mailing done and Bad Wife..relaxed. In her own way.

Is that fresh gingerbread I see on the counter? I'll take a slice of that and some hot coffee, and I'll be reading by the fire. Company always welcome.

It's Pat's acronym for a Coffee Flavoured Coffee, as opposed to the current trend for coffee that tastes of anything but coffee.

Hope that clears that up.

So much drama in the last week or so, seems like my life will never go back to normal. Even drama between the staff at the shelter, I am being pulled in two or three directions. But my depression is finally lifting and I am getting better. My dad is losing his house and has lost all of his luxuries in life such as a phone, internet access, tv service and is just days from having his power cut off. He lost his job several months ago and has been digging a huge hole for himself. I am unable to bail him out this time, I have several times in the past, but not this time. Someone stole the keys to my grandpa's house from the lock box the realtor left on his gate. The guy was actually there stealing stuff this morning when my mom showed up to change the locks. I am so glad that I got my classic car out of the garage last night, or it would be gone. My step son is up to his old bs and ran up a $500 phone bill for us this month. He is also skipping school and not coming home for days at a time. Like I said, too much drama. Any way I thought that I would let everyone know that I am still alive. :bat:

Kim, I am staying away from your walnut orange bread. No offense, but I am one of those nut-anaphylactics. Can't even touch the shells or the trees. I'll just sit a safe distance away and enjoy seeing the pleasure on the faces of those who do eat it.

Many hugs to you Poisonbat. You'll get through this. Just don't hesitate to lay a little tough love on the stepson. If he's mucking up, have the authorities intervene. If he doesn't learn now that he can't get away with anything he wants, he'll only get worse. Waiting for them to come to their senses usually doesn't work. They're kids. They haven't got any.
As for your father, I don't know the situation, but it sounds like he got himself into it and he needs to get himself out. If he's going to. You've got a lot on your plate. Let him keep his problems on his own. It's hard, but like your stepson, he's got to realize that he's responsible for his actions.
Hang in there chickie. The walnut bread smells WONDERFUL and the coffee's fresh in the pot. And there's always a Tet-mate around when you need one.

It is with a sad heart that I come into the cantina this morning. I had to end my service at the shelter yesterday, a new board of directors came in and changed everything. No longer is YAPS "A lifetime commitment" as our motto says, the animals now have 30-45 days for adoption, if not they will be turned over to the county where they will be euthanized. All dogs with "issues" will be turned over immediately to the county. Raisin who is unlucky enough to have some pit bull in her is the first to go. She is a lovely dog, not a mean bone in her, will be going this week. Next will be Goldie, she is shy and terrified of men due to her abuse she has suffered. All of the adult cats in the cattery are also up for destruction. They are not "profitable" to yaps according to the new board, and therefore can not stay. They want only kittens, but if the kittens grow up, they will be gone too. There are tiny unprotected kennels in our yard that we use to hold dogs while we clean kennels, not any more, they plan on filling these kennels with dogs. They will have no protection from wind, rain or snow. These have to be little dogs, as the fences are only 3 foot high. I simply told my dear friend Joy that I could not be a part of this, said my good byes to the animals and left. I cried buckets for hours.:bat:

I had one of my friends from the shelter over last night, we talked for hours. I told her that they need to change their website, it is now a big lie.

What these people fail or choose not to realize is, in the event someone does not adopt their animal we will have to provide care for that animal over the rest of its natural life. Providing veterinary care and feeding for one animal easily exceeds $1,000 per year, if we took each and every animal that people who contact us wish to surrender, we would be bankrupt in no time at all with dozens upon dozens of animals that still required care.

I also emailed YAPS with this. They should be truthful to their supporters and those owners who surrender their animals. They should say that your animal gets 30 days instead of 10 at the pound.

Here is a cake, my mom and I have ordered this type to see how tasty it is. :oo:
I don't have much to post. My infection is gone; can come back but don't know when. My lungs are good and everything else is good. I had to switch to rice milk from dairy milk, but that is okay in my book.
I lost my kitten Jynxs. :dunno: I don't know if she has a new home, if a dog got her, if she is just running around outside or if a bear got her. I am just worried and praying she comes home soon because I miss her.
I am not doing good with pets, but if I have lost my Jynxies... My g/f said I could enjoy her cat Thumper. Oo :(
I will check in more this week. Sorry I have been kind of out of action and on the injury bench.
My book is doing good business, I am doing word of mouth right now to get it moving. Not trying to promote anything Ms. Mod... Just posting news about me.

Take care Tet Mates,

Hope Jynx comes back soon. My cat's name is Thumper, too! He's 19 pounds of cattitude. :smile2: We named him that because of the noise he made coming down the stairs. He doesn't look Siamese but he must be a mix because he "talks" like one--has that very distinctive yowl in his voice.

Glad to hear you and your book are doing well. :smile2:

Oh I love baklava, haven't had it in years. I went and visited with my friends yesterday and took pictures of the animals that they plan to send to county. I am not sure exactly what I am going to do yet. But I think that those who surrender their animals and the sponsors should know the truth. I hate liars and these new board members are just that. They have put targets on one dog in particular, Raisin. She is unfortunate enough to have some pit bull in her and they want to eliminate her as soon as possible. I can not take her as she does not get along with my dogs. He days are short. Petey on the other hand also has a target on his head because he has a mild seizure disorder that is completely controlled with meds. I told them that when it came to his day, I would take him. My husband is none to thrilled to think of getting another big dog, but I can not let him be destroyed, he is a big ball of love. I miss my friends there both human and furry, but I still can not be a part of what is happening there. The board members are still calling this a "no kill" shelter because we don't euthanize on site. I think this is another lie. No they send them away to be killed. What is the difference. Sad thing is, I can only save one more. Wish I had a big farm or something where they could all run and be happy.:bat:

Hey folks, it is supposed to snow here for the first time this season. They are predicting 5 to 10 centimetres which could mean up to 20, knowing how they botch things. It's raining right now and and Arctic front is expected sometime soon. I guess I better get my butt in gear and go pay the bills early today.

Good thing it is a DAY OFF!!! I don't mind snow too much on a day off, so long as they get it plowed by tomorrow morning for the farmer's market. (Only two shopping Saturdays left before Christmas.)

Forgot to add, they are actually calling for snow here this weekend in "sunny" Southern California, I think it would be nice for a day, but it completely cripples everyone here. We are snow idiots. Rain, earthquakes, winds all ok, but snow, we don't know what to do. It is comical to watch all of us outside in our "winter" coats freezing our butts off. Hey girl, over in my corner of the world, on the mainland in Vancouver, they call a snow warning for anything over 3/4 inch. The snow is coming down like crazy here with huge flakes. There is about an inch and a half already. They didn't even issue my area a snow warning even though they predict 10 cm (4 inches).

We are going to go for a drive in it in a few minutes. The shower can wait. I can make soup later as well. We always go for a drive in the first snow.

Good morning all. No snow here yet, just freezing rain. We took the time on Saturday to rebuild our dog house into a condo for them. I made it a comfy warm place for them, then the two proceeded to argue over who would be queen or king of the castle. It was quite humorous. They did finally settle it and both are comfy and warm inside. It is a cold 39* this morning, not as cold as yesterday morning at 28*. They are still calling for snow storms here later this week, but we will have to wait and see.

I found out the board of directors name and phone number and plan on speaking to him personally about the shelter. I want to hear it from his lips that what he is doing is in the animals best interest. Then I will know he is a liar. I feel I must confront him, I simply can not live with the lie.

I am here on the north coast waiting for the blizzard to hit. Now they say it is just going to be cold with maybe 8 inches of snow. I don't trust weather people. I listen to the animals and watch their behavior. If it snows it snows. I am doing better and I have over came a lot of stuff these past two weeks. I am still adjusting to my new life. I am not use to actually being in a relationship and my poor girlfriend is about to beat me silly. She is tired of the bachelor appearing when I should be more of a gentleman and a good boyfriend. I am also taking care of my mom; well not really taking care of her but more like supporting her in what she wants to do. I also been busy trying to keep tabs on her so she won't fall off the wagon. We are sober, well, I am sober and mom is mom. I don't degrade her when she drinks I get upset at the bastard men she hangs around. I cannot really do anything until mom wants help more for herself.
My thumb is either jammed or broke; not much a doctor could do. I should be a little more careful. I smashed my left thumb last night carrying in wood for my mom. She was call me "Thumbs" for a while.
Me and Thumper, my g/f's cat, are getting along pretty well. I still hurt from losing Jynxs but I know she is okay and being taken care of.
Charms, Love you as well. Return as soon as you can.
Poison Bat, I dearly wish I could build a mansion just for me and all the unwanted and mistreated cats. I still have that dream of building a big shelter with a caged in area for them to enjoy outside. If I were to build here where I live, they would need to be caged in; other wise dogs and other wild animals would eat them. I would give all the cats equal attention. It is not fair how some people mistreat animals; makes me upset and very sick that some get away with it. I wish you the best of luck.
This has been a long post so I will say to All Tet Mates I hope you have a warm Christmas and a good weekend. I might take a note of leave for a while.

Make it Fentanyl and you're on, Shasta. (Oh, I wish I could take the stuff in real life.)

Yesterday they predicted an inch of snow for us. We got ten inches of the fluffy white crap yesterday. There's a chance we will get more today. Now it is back down to -10 Celcius and I have to go outside in it. Brrrrr.

I'll take a cup of hot chocolate to go, thank you.

Happy Holidays to all Tet-Mates and stay warm to all of those with snow falling.
Won't be a white Christmas down in sunny S. Fla. but still remember those cold
New England winters to last me a lifetime.

Going to try to get a pint of blood for my surgery out of my son again today. We went yesterday, but he had drank an Amp and his pulse rate was too high, so they said no. Gonna try again today. My days are running out, Monday will be the last day I will be able to have it donated. I have 3 people as back up right now and another 3 on hold. By God I will get one pint out of the 7 of them. I posted a new album on my profile page with our "snow" storm. The picture of the cactus and palm tree is priceless. There are also pictures of my dog Cobain, he loves to pose for pictures, but could not get a single one of Puppy. Darn her, so it should be up soon.:bat:

Just had contact with Brummie and he'd like me to pass this along for him:

I have unfortunately picked up a worm virus!!! on my computer. My Security Programme picked it up before to much damage was done and the Hardrive has been cleaned up. I do however need to install a bigger disc drive as the memory capabilities of the one I have is nearly full. I have a lot of files and there is no room for the windows system to constantly upgrade. This is causing the computer to freeze every 5 to 10 minutes.
This is in fact the 3rd attempt at writing a message to you!

I would appreciate it if you could let everyone know the reason for my absences. I will try and post when I can. I should be back to normal after the holidays if my brother-in-law has chance to do the installation for me. (It means taking the hardware up to Birmingham with us!!)

Good morning to all and Happy New Year.

This came in an email this morning, and I felt it truly says it all.............

TO: God.com
Dear Lord,

Every single evening
As I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little Prayer
Keeps running through my head:

God bless all my family
Wherever they may be,
Keep them warm
and safe from harm
For they're so close to me.

And God, there is one more thing
I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking,
Please bless my computer too.

Now I know that it's unusual
To Bless a motherboard,
But listen just a second
While I explain it to you, Lord.

You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends;
Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my friends.

I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Takes me in to where they live.

By faith is how I know them
Much the same as you.
We share in what life brings us
And from that our friendships grew.

Please take an extra minute
From your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book
That's filled with so much love.

Wherever else this prayer may reach
To each and every friend,
Bless each e-mail inbox
And each person who hits 'send'.

When you update your Heavenly list
On your own Great CD-ROM,
Bless everyone who says this prayer
Sent up to GOD.com

Amen

I also hope to firm up some of my new soft spots *pat his belly gently and chuckles* . Maybe read some more. I got a great christmas gift; Sai King's Gunslinger Born comics. First edition on top of that. I about cried because I was always promised by my ex-wife and never gave me them. She will be getting a Christmas gift later in the new year. I am doing a lot better. I am wearing a back up pair of glass since my good pair broke. I have three sets of lens and only one half decent frames. I think a trip to Walmart is due.

Good morning to all and Happy New Year.

This came in an email this morning, and I felt it truly says it all.............

TO: God.com
Dear Lord,

Every single evening
As I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little Prayer
Keeps running through my head:

God bless all my family
Wherever they may be,
Keep them warm
and safe from harm
For they're so close to me.

And God, there is one more thing
I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking,
Please bless my computer too.

Now I know that it's unusual
To Bless a motherboard,
But listen just a second
While I explain it to you, Lord.

You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends;
Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my friends.

I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Takes me in to where they live.

By faith is how I know them
Much the same as you.
We share in what life brings us
And from that our friendships grew.

Please take an extra minute
From your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book
That's filled with so much love.

Wherever else this prayer may reach
To each and every friend,
Bless each e-mail inbox
And each person who hits 'send'.

When you update your Heavenly list
On your own Great CD-ROM,
Bless everyone who says this prayer
Sent up to GOD.com

Amen

Good morning, folks. I had the weekend from hell, and I would like to publicly thank Agincourt Concierge for her support. Thanks, hon. You kept me sane.

I think I will take one of those muffins I see. Looks like one of them might be cheddar and onion! *grabs a coke and wanders off into the shadows*

Hi all, hope everyones weekend was at least so so, :wink2: Mine was reasonable, only one crisis, but it was a familiar crisis, its the crisis that just keeps on giving, depending on my daughters mood!

I must be a terrible person.
Yesterday, we heard a chainsaw that sounded a little too close, so we went
to the edge of our property and found a neighbor hacking away at one of our
trees with a chainsaw. He said that one of the trunks was leaning a little
too precariously and he was afraid that it was going to fall on his trailer
in the next heavy rainstorm. So, with our blessing, he wanted to hack it
down first.
So we said to go ahead. No big deal.
Before we'd gotten more than a few steps away, he hacked through the trunk
.... and it fell on his house.
I almost didn't make it back to my own house before laughing my arse off.
The guy's house is okay. Not a scratch. He had the tree down on the ground hacking it up in no time, otherwise we would have gone back to help.
*muffles giggles*
It still cracks me up. I can't help it.
I'm terrible.

Glad to come in to the cantina this morning, it was world war 3 last night here at my house. My step son is so messing up. We had to shut his phone off he simply has no regard for rules or responsibilities. He ran up almost $650 on the phone bill this month, I still can not believe that my stupid husband gave him the phone back after he did this before.:glare: He finally came home last night and the argument between him and his father was epic. After the argument he went out into the street (my step son) and started yelling curse words at my husband. Told him he would come back and kill him in his sleep etc. One of my neighbors called the police, but my step son's girlfriend managed to wrangle him into the car before they got here. Never a dull moment. I hate fearing him, and made sure that the house was locked up tight last night, but still had problems sleeping. The police officer suggested that we simply have him move out, he is of age and a legal adult. He is tearing my family apart. He is the main source of problems between my husband and I. My husband wants to cater and coddle him and tries to buy his love. I will not put up with this so he does things behind my back for Joshua, and lies to my face about it. I finally handed him back my wedding ring the other day and told him I was done, this is when I found out that he had given him back the phone. I told him that I can not live with a liar. He promised change (again) and turned the phone off for good. I watched him do it. Last nights events were the out come of this. So much stress while I am trying to heal, I will be glad when he moves out and we can all get back to our lives.:bat:
