It is raining on my unfinished roof this morning, hope the plastic holds up. This is not good news. I hope it quits soon. We need the rain don't get me wrong, but I wish it would have waited until next week when things around here were done. It may even interfere with my plans to go to the shelter.:glare: I guess we will have to wait and see. I will take a large coffee and head over to bean bag central and warm up a bit. :bat:

I'm feeling up today; Ace's bloodwork came back, and he does not have diabetes or organ failure of any kind. It's probably hyperthyroidism, which is quite treatable, or maybe allergies, which is also treatable (further tests underway). So I think I'll have a mocha frappucino to celebrate. Well, we are looking at sunny days for the rest of the week, and my roof should be DONE today. What a week. Now to concentrate on the trees and carpet. Trees on Thursday, Carpet Friday. Then I will collapse and just veg out for a while. My husband got passionately angry last night over the election. I asked him if he voted, which I knew he hadn't, and I told him, I am not going to have an angry political debate with you over this, if you felt this strongly you should have voted so we can disagree and drop it right now.:bat:

Good morning everyone, Hey Buckwheat (drops a fat mouse). I have my final roof inspection this morning, and the tree people are supposed to be here in about a half hour. He was supposed to come by yesterday, but never showed up. Flake. If he doesn't show up today, I will go with another tree trimmer. There are many to choose from here. My roof looks beautiful, they did a great job. I am glad that they are done pounding on it all day. The carpet people will be here Friday between 8am and 6pm. huh? They would not give me a specific time, that sucks. Oh well, at least it will be done. I will be glad to have the weekend off. My husband is playing Crisis on the computer in my bedroom and doesn't care that I want to go to sleep at night. This is the second time I have had to go sleep elsewhere due to the noise. Doesn't seem fair to me. He came in and woke me up after he was done playing and asked me if I wanted to come to bed, I just glared at him:glare: rolled over and went back to sleep. I have had a horrible time adjusting to the time change and my sleep window is off. He doesn't seem to care and that bothers me. I am oh so quiet when HE is trying to sleep, once again this is not returned to me.:bat:

Many huggles to elizabetha, and to all Tet-mates, in need or not.
As for me, I think I'm taking a break from the board. I know I often tend to wander off and forget to come in for a drink or for lunch. Most importantly for the company of good people and good friends. I get caught up with whatever's going on in my life, whether it's my family or my book, and I just take it for granted.
This isn't going to be like that.
Over the last few days, I've seen people turn against each other on another thread, and attack each other viciously for expressing their own views. Including me for mine. It's frightening to me that otherwise very cool people can turn on each other so quickly, and with such dedicated intensity. To me, it's symptomatic on a small scale of what's happening on a much larger scale out there in the "real" world.
I do NOT want to start that discussion up again here, or anywhere else. I just want to take a step back and sort out how to deal with that.
I adore you all.

I love my dad a lot, but I don't want to live with him. :oo: My son's best friend whom I consider another son, totaled his car yesterday, slid on ice and had both front tires hanging off of the side of the mountain. He was very lucky that he did not go over completely. He is going to be staying with us for a while, he goes to school here in town and has no car to get back and forth. I guess I will be taking him. He is a good kid and I love him. I am just looking forward to a noiseless day. No pounding, no chain saws etc. I will take a large green tea with lots of honey and be out on the patio. Sometimes it is just the need for an oral fixation. You can suck the end of the plastic smokes with no harm to you, and if you dip them in melted dark chocolate, at least you'll get some vitamin A.
As for me, I'll take a 2 litre bottle of Coke to go and a package of chocolate-covered espresso beans to have here. I'll just be sitting in a chair out on the patio. Hopefully it is not raining. I do see sun out of my own window at the moment. *crosses fingers*

Okay, I need some good vibes folks...
At work, with the hour cuts and a pissy cashier manager, I am being shorted out of shifts that I should have access to. It's making it so I won't be able to pay the bills. My husband works in Canadian publishing, which in the greater scheme of things is small potatoes.
I have to go and talk to the owner and the acting manager at work to see if the situation can be remedied somehow and find out what the future holds. I am also considering asking everyone in management for a letter of reference to help me find supplementary work.
I also need to give my art a real go and see if I can make some money off of it. I guess I have to be Superwoman to try to sort this crap out.
Just seeing that schedule last night made me feel ill.
Please, send good energy. At this point I am uncertain of where things are headed.

Good (and Groovy?) vibes to any that need them.
As for me I am still recovery and not drinking.
Neat thing is my latest girlfriend is no drugs and alcohol. It is nice to have someone right beside me in this, because where we live there are too many young ones my age (26) that are too busy drugging and drinking. I all ready have two people looking up to me and more are coming forward each day.
I am just being me, the Wolf, the Poet, and the Native Outlaw.

Thanks for the vibes folks. I went in and had a talk with the manager. As soon as she saw me, she said the schedule was going to be changed. We talked for quite a while and a lot got sorted out. I will be given a letter of reference so I can look for supplementary work. She hopes I can't find something because she doesn't want to lose me. I reassured her that I WANT to be there. (I hate job hunting. I want that job because I will be trained to manage the place over the next several years.)
Reader's Digest version of this is that the folks on top will keep on looking out for me when the cashier manager decides to pull her dirty tricks, but I have to trust them.
In the meantime, I should toss on some laundry and then go work on my art. The big plan is that I make enough larger scale pieces for an eventual exhibit in 2011 (2010 would be pushing things with the way the application process works) while still making enough smaller art things to sell along the way.
I also bought a copy of Joe Hill's Heart-Shaped Box. :smile2:

BTW, Spidey, thank you SO much for remembering Buckwheat all this time, but there's kind of a story with my slithery babies......
So, last year, I had to return Buckwheat to the wild, as he went off his feed. As I had already been through losing one baby to anorexia, I did not want to go through the same ordeal with Buckwheat, and since I knew he was fully capable of taking care of himself, I took him back to where he rightfully belonged. This was also around the time that I quit the MB, so none of you knew about it, obviously......
At any rate, here about a month ago now I went out and bought a little milk snake, which I have named "Pyro". Pyro is doing extremely well, and I would love it if he would be welcomed as warmly as Buckwheat was? I understand the Thursday rule will still stand, which is totally ok, but....yeah.
Now. Everyone go out there and have a fantabulous weekend! I love you guys! :biggrin2:

I can not believe what happened at my husbands work last week. They laid off 22 workers and closed 3 yards. They said that there just wasn't enough work for the senior drivers. My husband is a senior driver, and has been hurting for hours. He is used to about 50 hours and was getting about 38. I feel bad for these people, one of the drivers that was laid off has a newborn baby just 2 weeks old. Sure now my husband is back up to 50+ hours a week, but my heart goes out to those who lost their jobs in this hard time. All together the trucking company he works for laid off 1,500 workers.:bat:

I think I need a big cup of tea this morning. My husband was too warm in the middle of the night, so he pushed his covers off. It tends to mean that he flips them over onto me. I woke up feeling like I was being steamed. Ick.

Have a Great Weekend, Everyone !!!
And welcome, Fieryness, grab a pew.
Well, what a fantastic week it's been for the birthday of a Stephen King fan. First of all, I read The Long Road Home (and passed him on for his own long road), then Just After Sunset, the great reports and poems from Mass. followed by the podcast of the event, the Borders interview, the publication date for Under The Dome, and now the news of a new novella - 'Mortality' and the possibility of a Castles game in the future!
Phew! I'm breathless, with an overflowing cup!!!!

Large Irish coffee please and a CFC por mi novia.

PS - I've started both a thread and a social group to discuss Just After Sunset - All very welcome, of course.

Fieryness, welcome--anything you want, we can bring it.
John, what a great birthday week you had, and may there be many more like it.
Poisonbat, really sorry to hear about your husband's work.
We went to Yosemite for the weekend--I'd never been there before and I fell in love: the forest, the granite cliffs, the falls... Still a bit stiff and sore from climbing on boulders to get to the base of Yosemite Falls, just to feel the spray on my face and dip my finger in the stream.
Large hot coffee and a couple of pieces of cinnamon toast, please.

It is with a sad heart that I walk into the Cantina, So. Cal. is burning down. :sad:http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/11/17/california.fires/?iref=mpstoryview#cnnSTCVideo You can watch here. All that we have is smoke, but so many people have lost their homes and lives. There was something weird that happened here in Yucaipa last night. There was a sound like an explosion that shook our neighborhood last night, I called 911 4 times and got a busy signal, got through on the 5th try. They said that they were already on the way to investigate it, so I let it go. But the weird part is, there were absolutely NO sirens. Not a single one all night. Not one police car drove up my street, nothing. :eek2: I looked on the web under our local news this morning again nothing. It is very strange. :glare: I guess I will have to take a drive this morning and see if there is any police tape up somewhere. But not a single siren? Very weird indeed.:bat:

*Wolf staggers into the Cantina. He sways to the bar and sits down on the first bar stool he comes to. He rubs his aching left hip and orders a tall water with a shot of lemon juice*
Just dropping in for a quick hi. Just kinda feeling blue for the past three days. I am trucking my way through the valley of darkness. At least now I fight with my head up and now down. Make more fatal wounds to these ghosts. Just sober and clean. Still sick and wishing I was better.

Good Morning, Everyone!
Dreamed last night that Bruce Springsteen was kissing me: the weird part was that it was while he was playing a concert. (I'm not complaining, mind you.) Going to an offsite today--working but not in the office; so I get to wear jeans. Yay!
Large hot coffee and a couple of slices of cinnamon toast, please. Love to all tetmates.

Good morning everyone, Pats Buckwheat and Pyro on the head and drops 2 mice this time. I would have brought Grim to visit with you two, but he is shedding and not in the mood. I was so happy yesterday, we had 4 adoptions at the shelter. 3 dogs and 1 kitty. They all went to exceptional homes. I find myself longing to be there, I just love it. I didn't think I would make it yesterday, as we had a man come to move our DSL line. He came early enough so that he was done just at 11am, the time the shelter opens. I left my folded laundry on my unmade bed and just left. This is so unlike me. But the urge to get down to the shelter out weighed my obsession for finishing what I started. I am happy, I finally found somewhere where I make a difference. They told me that I was Valuable to them, so much more valuable than I even realize. It has been so very long since someone told me that I was valuable. This really gave me a boost to my self confidence. Secondly, since I started volunteering at the shelter I have lost 8 pounds. Something that I have tried to do for a long time, but never succeeded. I guess it is just the extra exercise that I am getting. I guess that I want some new clothes for Christmas, these don't really fit me anymore. :smile2::bat:

I understand not wanting to read through all the back posts because there are a LOT of them, but Pyro is indeed a new playmate for Buckwheat. I hate this time of the year. We get month after month of rain and wind storms and I ache like hell. I'm walking like I am eighty years old! Yuck. I think I will take a tall, cold glass of coke and sit it up on the top rail of the shower door when I leave here. I need a hot shower.
I went to an art supply store yesterday. It was nice to walk in and be blown away yet again by the selection. Tonight I go back to work for a four days. I am looking forward to my days off so I can REALLY get into some new art supplies. I was drawing in bed last night. I just had to try out something...
Well, I want to read a couple of threads and then it's off to the shower for me.
Have a good day, everyone.

Good morning folks! It's grey and foggy here, but it is NOT raining. I guess that means I am having beautiful November weather. Usually at this time of year, storm after storm blows through here. A few years ago, there were THREE WEEKS when we received eight inches of rain each day. That was not a good time. Given the choice, I will take 'dry' anytime, no matter what the colour of the sky is.
It's been a crazy weekend. On Saturday I was going like a weasel on crack at work, just trying to get through the night. They gave us a big promo weekend without enough staffing hours, as usual. Corporate is heartless. They are stripping our staff down to almost nothing, yet still expect the work to be done.
I need a big pot of chai. I'll just be hiding off in a corner for a while with a book.

This is one holiday that I would love to skip. I miss my kids so badly, and I have nothing to read right now. I guess I will pick a new/old book out of my bookshelf and take a journey of some sorts. I savored JAS, but alas it has been read. I would like to just hide out somewhere for the next week, but I can not do that either. So I will just hide in the corner somewhere and have a large hot coffee with that creamer I like so well. Good day, folks. I have a request for a coworker of mine. She is in desperate need of some good vibes. She's been under a lot of stress since her dad passed away a couple of months ago. There's a family history of lupus on her mom's side. The stress is making her immune system go totally batsh*t. She almost died yesterday morning. She was bleeding under her skin in huge hive-like puddles, her kidneys were breaking down, and she was in a lot of pain. They have her on high doses of prednisone at the moment, but she is really having a hard time mentally.
I keep on telling her not to give up in pushing for tests for lupus, even if just to rule it out. She will keep trying. I am so worried about her.
Please send some good energy for her. If you need a name to focus on, it's Trisha. I don't think she'd mind her first name out on the web.
I need caffeine. I think I will grab a tea and go.

Heya dear Tet-mates. I hope everybody's getting ready for a happy holiday.
As for us, we've got a funeral tomorrow. My ex mother-in-law passed away. She and I weren't particularly close, especially since I divorced her son, but I did respect her a great deal, and after all, she's my kid's grandmother. So it's a blow to the family.
We're hoping that the togetherness of Thanksgiving helps to heal the family, and be grateful for the life she led rather than dwelling on the sorrow of her passing.

I don't care if it is raining, I must say my goodbyes. I am going to deeply miss Jolly, he is such a great dog. But he has fallen in love with the girl who is adopted him, so I am happy for him.
Lady Pain You and your coworker Trisha will be in my thoughts and prayers.:bat:

I need a Coke. I am up a little earlier than normal, but I just couldn't sleep, even though I stayed up pretty late reading Secret Windows. Too much stress. My coworker, Trish, was back in the hospital yesterday again. I am going to have to give that girl a big hug when I see her and I will tell her that there are folks out there pullin' for her.
Today is a day off. I am going to make cheesecake and work on my art, as well as catch up on some laundry and other house crap.
Have a good day everyone. Have a great Thanksgiving as well!

Wish us luck.:smile2:
Sorry to hear about your loss, Lepplady. Hope Thanksgiving is healing and peaceful for your family.

Sai King- may you and your family have a wonderful day.

Have a great weekend too.

We weren't going to do a traditional dinner here, but then we saw everything on sale at the grocery store. Fresh turkeys for $5, no limit! Woohoo! We ended up putting on a full spread and calling some friends of the family to join us on Saturday.
Other than that, I spend the long weekend reading and knitting. :)
How are you all? I've missed you!

Good Morning, Everyone!
Hope everyone's long weekend was a good one and that all who celebrated had a happy Thanksgiving (slept for 14 hours, myself). And happy Advent to those who celebrate.
Found out Saturday that my brother Cameron lost everything in a fire except his life and what he was wearing. My family is a little stressed, to say the least.

Glad to see everyone back in the cantina, seems like it has been closed forever. I wish that they wouldn't cramp so many holidays into such a short time. 3 holidays all together is just too much for me. I did buy one present over the weekend, but did it on Saturday. No way I was going into that black Friday mess. There is no bargain worth losing your life over. :glare: I hate this pressure. I guess one holiday down and 2 to go. I am stressed out, I need a drink, a cyber drink anyway. I will be on the patio hiding for a while, I need a break.:bat:

Hi,
A Great big 'Hi' from Purrrtricia !!!
Pat asked me to say 'Hi' to all the good MB folken, and she's looking forward to having time to get posting again. She's spent the last few weeks nursing her rescue kitteh (now deemed Half Dead Fred) back to health, which involved feeding him by hand every three hours for a while, apart from much else, but you'll be very pleased to hear that Fred is responding well to her ministrations and putting on weight and the vet is delighted with his progress.
And any time she has free from the retail book mine seems to get tied up talking to some Scots eejit!
But she'll be back and about shortly (don't call me 'shortly' LOL)
She sends hugs to all ((((((SKMB)))))
Long days and pleasant nights

Good morning dear Tet-mates! How is everybody? I hope everybody's having a great day. I'm staring 45 in the eye (tomorrow) and I guess I'm okay iwth it. I'm pretty comfortable with who I am, so I guess another day, and another year, won't make much of a difference.
Right now, I just want to dive into a pot of coffee and float around on a donut.
:smile2:
Just for giggles, I opened the doors to the Cantina to the after-hours crowd in the social groups.

Happy early birthday, Lepplady--45 is good! It adds up to 9 and 9 divides by 3 and 3 is a magic number (so the song says). Coffee-diving and doughnut-floating sound like a plan.

Yeah, I am just checking in before I go to bed. I am still kind of not doing well. My health is getting better slowly but surely. I am still not drinking and just past the second month now. December and then the holidays will be over. My doctors think that I am having a struggling issue with the holidays. :oo: Gave them this you think look. So, yeah my son's mother and I cannot talk to each other any more. I try to be level headed and mature about *rolls his eyes thinking* How to introduce my *thinking* g/f into my son's life. My darling honey and I are wanting to be together for long terms. Not for a quick sack rumble and I will call in two weeks to see if you are busy. We are thinking day by day but with the years to come within mind. She is helping me undo the damage in my head from the years of abuse and such matters that make me a difficult person to live with some times. But, at least this time I got a beautiful lady that is welling to help me instead of looking down her nose at me. *Smiles* Good night Mates.

So, what flavour is a red velvet cake? I have only heard of them.
What kind of red dye gets used? I used to be a baker and cake decorator and I remember that red was the FOULEST tasting colour I had to use, and it was generally used sparingly or with a caveat to the person requesting it.
