Well hello Buckwheat, nice to see you. Do you like rats?
I am very glad to be in the cantina, the Hawaiian goodies look tasty. I will have some out on the patio. I miss Kim a lot. The cantina is not the same without her. Sure hope she comes back soon. As for me, I am spending today at the shelter. They open at 11 so I will do my domestic chores then off to have some fun.:bat:

I need a drink. A real one. Unfortunately my doc won't let me have the good stuff, so I will take a cyber bottle of scotch. Yes, the whole bottle. No glass. I won't need it.

*grabs the bottle and heads out to RT, taking a swig along the way*

Good afternoon all.

Sometimes our days are so busy we just do not get a chance to read all the forums, or threads.

There has been a tradition on the SKMB since the old old MB known as the Halloween Story.

There is a sticky over in General Discussion Questions - Halloween Story.
Have a peek. It is guaranteed great fun. Jordan posted links to past stories. I think it is post #28.

Come join the fun:smile2:

Hey guys!!

i'm missing the board heaps at the moment.

so i moved, and sadly, "The Best Computer In The World" didn't like moving. it now, sorta, kinda doesn't work. My suspicion is a problem with the power supply. so anyway, still trying to get it fixed but am flat broke so its taking a little whiles. i'm staying at my sisters at the moment for a couple of days while she is out of town so i've got some access now (even if it is dial-up - does that even really count these days??). been catching up on everything net related (webcomics - YAY)

anyway, thought i'd update you all. i do plan to be back, just gotta get my access up and running and i'm set!

Good Morning Everyone!

Hey - I just wanted to post to let everyone who has tried to contact me over the past month or so that I am still alive and around. :smile2: Thank you all so much.

My husband and I were involved in a really bad car accident. We were hit head-on by another car when its driver had a stroke and lost control. We were going about 50 mph and we were told the other car was going around 40 mph when it crossed the center line and hit us. The other driver died because of the stroke, and his wife died from trauma injuries caused by the accident - she wasn't wearing her seat belt - don't know if it would have helped. My husband had to have his left foot "re-built", but otherwise is doing fine. I broke a leg, some ribs, and put my head through the side window. I'm doing fine now. Just aches and pains. Modern medicine can be pretty good when you need it. :smile2: Thank God the kids weren't with us!

Soooo - haven't been able to post or answer any queries. Thanks for your concerns. I won't be posting regular for a little while yet. Have to get caught up on work and such. My office desk is buried under mountains of stuff.

Sorry I've missed so much. Happy Birthdays to everyone I've missed!! Also - big congratulations out to the new grandpa! Miss this place.

Have a great day!!!! :smile2:

I missed Buckwheat yesterday...had to take mini-me on a Field trip to a local pumpkin/apple picking location with his pre-school. Now, after having a few minutes to look at my work inbox. I think I will just stay here in the Cantina for the rest of the day. Have you ever had one of those days (or weeks for that matter) that just, for lack of a better word, suck. So if it is all right I will take a large Cappuccino with a huge dollop of whipped over in the corner. If anyone has a good joke I would love to hear it:) Looking for a good laugh! HAPPY FRIDAY. - Speedy -:eek2:

Good morning everyone, I have shifted gears into finding a good home owners policy. They are quite confusing. It seems that I get one, and I get it all arranged and I get another one that is better. Don't know exactly how much insurance I need, I will call my lender today and talk to them, they should have the appraisal back by today. I hope to see Kim later, and Lady Pain THANK YOU. I know that you know what that is for. :bat:

poisonbat, you are welcome. Anytime, girl, anytime.

Cowboy, have a 4-pack of Red Bull on me. *hands a four-pack over to him*

The timing for my husband's trip is starting to fall into place. I guess he will fly out on the 14th and spend some time back east, then drive out with his dad, arriving back here a couple of days before Halloween. I'll be spending almost all of my scheduled vacation ALONE. That sucketh. I guess I will have to allow for a lot of extra movies and books in the shopping basket. And cleaning supplies to whip the last corners of the house into shape. Crap. I'm going to have to do a lot of cleaning on my so-called vacation. I'll also have to bath the dog on my own too. She's hard to catch when she knows it is bathtime. Dog is getting smart to the routine.

I think I will take a cup of tea and a couple of Pepcid to go, please.

LadyPain and Lotus, I have the perfect horses for the two of you. Old Ranch horses that will babysit you all day long and give you the smoothest ride you have ever been on.

I oh so love horses, I used to have a couple myself. I had a quarter horse named Red, and a Tennessee Walker named Lady. I took Lady to shows and she had the fanciest gaits that you could imagine. One day I had her in the arena practicing for a show had her in a rocking horse canter (yes it looks just like a rocking horse, kinda buck, rare over and over) I had her shod with 4 lb toe weights at the time so that when she went back to regular shoes she would lift her front feet higher when she gated. Things were going great until her front feet buckled under her and I went over the front of her. My face hit the corner of the fence post fracturing my eye socket, then I fell backwards to the ground. Lady was still trying to get up and kicked me in the side of the head with those 4 lb toe weights as she swimmed to get up. It fractured my skull and broke all of the bones in my left ear. I am glad that I had a friend that had a fast quarter horse that was with me, she left me and went to get help. I was 1 month in the hospital, surgery on my left eye socket to repair the fracture, and a small plate in my head to fix that break. It was several days before I even remembered who I was or even my mothers face. All in all it took me about 8 months to recover. I am deaf in my left ear, nothing they could do about that, but all in all I am fine. My mom blamed my horse for almost killing me, but I explained to her that it was not Lady's fault, and if I had been wearing my riding helmet I would not have been injured. It took me 11 years to get back on a horse, but it was wonderful. I have only rode once since my accident, but if you have a gentle horse, I would love to go riding with you all too. Sorry for the long post. :bat:

Good morning folks, I think I will just grab a cup of tea and hide off in a corner with some work I brought home.

I had a bit of a screw up at work sorted out for me by the acting manager (Lead assistant manager is the manager while the regular manager is away) because it seemed that since the manager told the cashier manager not to double shift me at Christmas like she did last year, she was favouring others lower down the totem pole than me because she likes to pull the b*tch card. I have been assured that it WILL NOT happen again. I pulled the 'job hunt' card.

For the gory details... Last year, volunteers were requested for Christmas, and I volunteered to merchandise, to work out on the floor for the manager. No one volunteered to work as a supervisor so it was added to my responsibilities for that day as well, and I wasn't asked or even told. I only saw it on the schedule when I was being told who I was working with. It was a shock because I was left short-staffed at Christmas because the cashier manager didn't want to have to call in one of her long-time princesses to work on that day. The stress was unreal and the cost to my health was absolutely freakin' enormous. This year I volunteered to work Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day as a merchandiser for the manager as long as she made sure I wouldn't be double-shifted on those days. There are lots of other qualified supervisors. She made sure I wouldn't get chit on again like last year, so the cashier manager decided to pull the b*tch card and short me on some available work days. I went to management to have that corrected, and saying that it made me want to start looking for another job WAS the truth. I hate job hunts, but I hate being unable to pay bills on time worse, so I said what I needed to in order to get my point across. I have worked my arse off to save the day so many times for management that they will go and save my hours for me in exchange. Works out for everyone, but still pisses off the cashier manager (lower level manager, not even a blue shirt). She's always got some kind of axe to grind for someone anyways. I am not the only one who feels her wrath.

So, things have been fixed. The cashier manager has been put in her place and told not to play with seniority lists like that again, etc, etc and I got hours back.

Now... I think my tea has gotten cold. I better grab a fresh one before I leave.

Poisonbat, one of our kitties was bottle-raised (not by us, by the volunteers at our vet's office) from two or three weeks or so. His mother had been hit by a car and killed. We got him at eight weeks, which is kind of young, but he didn't have his mother anyway, so he was largely socialized by humans. Every day he has to have his "snuggle time," where he hops up in my arms and buries his nose in the crook of my elbow. And if we are at the computer or sitting down and he wants attention, he stands on his hind legs—he's a very tall cat—and taps us on the shoulder, as if to say, "Excuse me, scritches and pets, please." All of which is to say, thanks to your efforts, some people are probably going to be matched with some wonderful kitties. Bravo to you.

Hi,

Wow! I thought we could expect a touch of intellectual snobbery, but I certainly didn't expect such blatant and obnoxious racism from someone in such a position in the third millenium.

Depressing to discover that attitudes like his still exist IMO.

However, every journey starts with but a single step, so anyone who agrees that Sai King richly deserves the honour (though Engdahl's attitude certainly tarnishes the honour IMO) of the Nobel Prize for Literature please join us in the Social Group. Thankee.

I don't wanna go off on a tangent here, but the cultural bias of Mr. Engdahl and his opinion that the U.S. has a fundamental inability to produce a Nobel Prize worthy author, is exemplified on a wider scale by the GENRE bias and snobbery of the "serious" writing & critiquing community in general, that affect Mr. King and others.

Everyone has seen s****y reviews of SK's work before, and I particularly remember seeing the late Norman Lear on Charlie Rose referring to prolific writers as producing the equivelence of "Big Macs"( I'm sure I have read a VERY similar self-depricating remark from SK himself yrs before this interview).

I like Mr. Giles Foden's one word response to H. Engdahl, and think it should be expanded to include all close minded, too full of themselves types: "B******t".

Hi Everyone,

I have just got home after spending 3 hours in a Hospital waiting room. After jarring my back at work today I have been diagnosed with a Prolapsed Disc-Spinal disc Herniation. I have extreme pain running from my Hip down my entire right leg, this is due to the Sciatic nerve being trapped by the disc.
The most harrowing thing about this is that the GP has said there is a probability of this lasting up to 6 weeks before a Consultant will consider surgery!!!! If after 4 weeks there is no improvement then they will carry out an MRI scan, and get a Consultant to check me out.:eek2:

I'm hoping the disc will right itself under its own steam! The GP has perscribed me some Pain killers and Anti-Inflamateries, BUT I will not be able to start these until tomorrow night, as I have to drive my wife 130 miles to Birmingham tomorrow to meet my Mum for their trip to New York.

This week may not be as enjoyable for me as was planned!

I have also started school again and have been very busy keeping up with homework. After fifteen odd years of no school it's hard to balance everything, but you are all in my thoughts! *slips in for a moment to grab a coke*

I picked up a couple of movies on my errand run this morning. Aliens and Rocky Horror Picture Show. I own RH already on VHS, but I don't have a VCR anymore and the tape somehow ended up at my monster-in-laws house last year. Not sure how that went down. My husband was going to copy it there, and he left my movie there. Anyways, I have the DVD so I can watch Tim Curry perform Sweet Transvestite to my heart's desire.

Ultrasound went well. The techs aren't supposed to tell you anything, but mine told me the scan was fine. She made a special trip over to see the radiologist with my files. I guess having people all over who buy my soap is a good thing. The power of soap! Anyways, it is just a relief that nothing showed up on the ultrasound. Now I am just going to wait and hope I DO NOT get a phone call about the blood work I had done yesterday.

I'm bagged. This 'being sick' stuff is a load of horse hooey. I want to get on with my life instead of wasting it riding the couch. I just don't feel up to much at the moment. I go back to work in eight days. I hope that is enough time off.

Maybe I'll grab myself a chicken burger outta the Cantina before I slip back to RT.

Have a great day.

Heha dear Tet-mates.
Please forgive my huffing and puffing, ranting and raving, but I'm just a bit tee'd off. I heard from my publisher that the current (and final) stage of the production of my book will take "maybe" another week. The charming representative that I talked to today told me that "Hey, it's not an exact science, y'know?" I reminded her calmly that it may not be an exact science, but it is a business, and it's MY business as well. There are other factors at work, here, that have been set in motion according to the timeline THEY gave me.
I don't know what hocks me off more. The fact that "maybe" I'll get to see proofs of my work next week, or the "eh, whatever" attitude of the woman I talked to.
Whatever happens, you can be assured that I will NOT deal with this publisher again in the future. Ever. And any future references I make to this place will not be happy and shiny.
... I need a drink. A lot.

Wake up LadyPain- here comes the Cantina morning crowd.

Spidey is sending out a CRY PARDON to all fellow Tet-Mates. My schedule has changed a little, so I may not get to everyone each day. But know you are in thoughts and heart.
As some already know, my neighbor suffered a stroke last Thursday night. She is the rock of that family. Master gardener, horsewoman, animal lover and kind soul. Right now her husband is a lost, clueless soul.
Cognitive skills are lacking, motor skills OK. I've taken on care of her critters, and watchful eye to husband. She did everything. My late afternoon and early evening time will require helping there. So know I am still here as often as I can be.

Brummie- how are you feeling?

Poisonbat, Stolichnaya is Russian vodka.

Kim L, thanks for the hooch. I just have to survive the next little while. I got a bit of sleep last night, and I have a last-minute list of things to do today before the men arrive. I'll be happy to see my husband, at least, even though a couple of things he said in MSN messenger yesterday made me mad enough to spit nails.

This morning, I think I will take a jug of lemonade to lightly flavour the Stoli. I'll be off in the corner, hiding. Anyone else under severe stress is welcome to join me.

Write down important #'s, where papers are kept, what and how you feed the animals.. ...little things like that. Good morning folks. Slept like crap. I think I will take a large coke to go and a couple of Pepcid Complete for what having company is doing to my stomach.

Walks into the Cantina and pats Buckwheat on the head, drops a fat mouse for him.
The construction on my roof started yesterday, but the big loud part has just started today. I feel trapped in my house, there are strangers everywhere outside, and you all know how I am in social situations. My dogs wont quit barking and the noise is terrible. I will be glad when it is all over with.
I thought that I was going to have all of my children for Halloween, but as it turns out, I will have none of them. For some unknown reason they scheduled the SAT exam on November 1st, so my son that lives with my ex can not come down for Halloween. My daughter has drama practice on the same day, so she can not come, and my eldest son who lives with me is going to his dads to be with his brother and sister on Halloween. What a disappointment. Even my step son is going to his aunts house. That just leaves me, here and alone. I am glad that my Dad is here, but he is going home early because the kids wont be here. Oh well, I guess I will just be happy with handing out candy and watching scary movies on Halloween. My husband Hates Halloween so he will stay in our bedroom until it is over. :bat:

Good Thursday everyone. Hope all are dealing with good weather. Still chilly in Fl, but warming up.

The herbal tea looks good, I'll have a cup of warm tea today.
Off to check on the critters out back.

*slips in for a late night coke*

You know, I only set up my art studio last week. I have already finished one of my undone projects. It's nice to be able walk in and close the door and just be in a different frame of mind. This might just be the start of something good. The gods know I can't work at a job requiring high levels of manual labour forever. This might be the boost I needed. Maybe I should do my writing in there as well.

*pours one shot of Captain Morgan's dark rum into her coke, heading out the door into the night*
Didn't Virginia Woolf say a woman needed a room of her own to write fiction? I would extend that to say it would help our sanity if we ALL had rooms of our own.

Since my daughter has gone to college, my husband & I each have our own rooms (plus the bedroom) and it's great. An upside to the empty-nest syndrome.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Hallowe'en to those who celebrate! I'm off to the mountains for a long weekend.

Oh boy I am off to yet another week of chaos. I will be glad when this is all over. I have a roof inspection today, I hope it passes. I get really nervous when people of authority come around. I had a police helicopter circling around my block last night for about 1/2 hour. It was scary. I got up and locked the sliding glass door that I usually leave open just in case someone gets locked out. I have two big dogs out there, one Rottie and one German Shepard, so I usually feel pretty safe. But for some reason that helicopter filled me with terror. I had a real hard time falling asleep even after it had gone. :eek2: I am just hoping that they got whom ever they where looking for. There was a hit and run across the street a while back, and he chose my back yard to escape through, my dog went nuts. All that they found back there though was part of a tee shirt and a pocket to some jeans that my dog had ripped off the suspect. I only had my Rottie at the time, but you could hear the man yelling "oh sh!t" as he met up with her. :bat:

I'll have what Kim's having, but I can't hang out all day. I have to take my cat (who has been living with my husband's little sis for several months ... long story) to the vet this afternoon. They called me last night to let me know he hasn't been eating or acting right and has lost a lot of weight. He's 14, but that's not that old for an indoor cat, right? :(

Hello you all, hope that your weekend was nice. Mine was except that I had to call 112 for the first time in my life .There was a fight at my favorite cafe and everyone went nuts. When there was a man on the ground outside and he did not react I called the cops and an ambulance. .......so now I am in for a coffee....

Good Day.
It's going to be a fun week at work. We are fundraising for the United Way, this past lunch hour I played Rock Band while others joined a poker tournament. Woo Hoo!

John, I have not recovered. In fact I am rather ill. Which is too bad because all week articling students are going around the floors with baked goods...me oh my. I can't be blamed however, there were hardly any trick or treaters (about 5 groups), it's actually quite sad. I hope the tradition doesn't become obsolete....

Voted last week; excited to see how it will all turn out today, despite myself. So tired of hearing about Prop 8! (Cali ballot measure re same-sex marriage).
Large hot coffee and a ooey gooey cinnamon roll. Todash, our cats are 15--indoor cats can live a long time.
