I was supposed to take this weekend off, but it did not work out that way for me or my husband. On Saturday we had to meet with the realtor that is selling my grandpa's house, she was supposed to meet with us at 9am, she did not show up until after 2pm. I do not like this realtor at all, but I did it for my mom, who I would do anything for. On Sunday, we had made plans with a friend for her to come over to my grandpa's and pick up a few things, should only take 20 minutes or so. This did not happen either. My friend brought along someone to help her and her husband load up their treasures, and they called two friends and so on and so on, wound up being there all day in 100* temps. So I will take my coffee and kick up my tired feet on the patio, maybe even take a dip in the pool if anyone cares to join me.:bat:

Brummieyid - do you have a recipe for that Beef & Bean soup? It sounds good.
Hi,
With any soup you need a good base to start with, so I usually make a few litres of stock in advance (which can be freezed). I tend to use a good vegetable stock for my soups.
Start by adding some Onions, Carrots and Celery in a thick bottomed pan and sweating with a little Olive oil. Once softened add 2 litres of water (or enough to make what you need) Then add vegetables and herbs of choice. I tend to use- Leeks, Cabbage, Fennell Bulbs, Garlic, Fresh Thyme, Rosemary Parsley and Bay leaves. Also add Black pepper, salt and if you want add some chilli's to add some heat! I tend to simmer this for at least 4 hours and then pour the reduced liquid through a strainer. Let this stand for a while and then skim off any scum that has formed on the surface.
Beef and Bean soup. Gently fry off some Beef mince in a little olive oil (or boil if prefered). In a saucepan once boiling simmer some beans (if using fresh kidney beans or Canelloni beans remember to soak overnight) for about half an hour (or until tender). Drain off the beans then add the vegetable stock and bring back to the boil. Cook for a further 10 minutes then add the cooked beef. Cover and simmer adding salt and pepper to taste.
You can take half of the beans cooked and blend if you prefer this will give the soup a creamier texture. Cook for another 10 to 20 minutes and then serve to a bowl. Sprinkled with a little Parmesan and served with hot crusty bread this soup is fantastic.
I'm sorry but I tend to add ingredients by the handful and don't weigh anything, so Its as much as you think you will need and of course whatever beans you like..
Hope this is ok.

Yeah, I think so..... Its beef thats been put through a Mincer. It breaks up well in soup so you get lots of little pieces of meat and not big clumps!!!

I think the song Manic Monday sums up yesterday. I barely had time to breathe, but today should be better. It was strange however, I ran into an ex boyfriend of mine that I haven't seen in 10 years yesterday. He came up to me and put his arm around me and started to kiss me. I wasn't even sure who he was at first so I struggled away. He has changed so much, I thought he was just a overly friendly stranger until he spoke to me. Believe me, I still didn't want him to hug or kiss me, but I was polite. I told him that I had gotten married and that seemed to take the wind out of his sails. He wanted to give me his phone number, and I told him that I didn't think my husband would be crazy about me having an ex boyfriends phone number in my phone. My thoughts were " why would I call you anyway?" :glare: I knew when I chose to move back to Yucaipa that I would run into some of my old "friends" but these are not nostalgic moments for me, there is a long explanation for this, but I wont go into that now.

Poisonbat, I know how you feel with the ex-boyfriend thing--I live in the same town as some of my ex-boyfriends, they know that I'm happily married but they still act like they have some sort of irresistible charisma. Why is it that they think that we would even consider seeing or phoning them again?? Hang in there my friend. :)

Lol LadyPain... I am about 200 pounds of mostly muscle with little fat.... I know about sinking. I am doing fine, just trying to tame my mom's cat. Surprised she hasn't scratched or bitten me like her sister has. Though Jynxs is the little devil and I just love her. She has been great company through these last two weeks when I wasn't on my med's. I am back on my med's now, but Jynxs and I still cuddle. She makes buscits a lot, and purrs really loud O_O. Ghost will surprise me once and a while, appears on my feet when I wake up to move. She purrs and it sounds like a coffee pot. They are both calico and siamese mixed. I believe they must have linx in them as well because the long tuff's of fur coming out of their ears as well off the top. I am going to visit mom in jail today and calm her down a bit.
Sad news, I am letting go of the love for my wife. I no longer have a wife, but I told her we could be friends. We have our son and a friendship, that much is all I can see. It cause me too much pain to stay in love with her. So, I am moving on and I hope we can get along fine enough for our son. I told her I don't care for the future, we cannot control it. The future is not permanent like the past and rapid fading present. Here i am jabbering my jaw off. I have some time before I go visit my mom, maybe I will go see how my dad is doing.

Your dentist probably already mentioned this, but one thing to watch out for after a wisdom tooth extraction is dry socket. You might want to be on the look out for any other symptoms. Here's a link (http://www.animated-teeth.com/dry-sockets/a1-dry-sockets.htm). Hope you feel better soon.

Ms. Mod is right (as usual), a dry socket can be worse than the pain the tooth was causing. Of course, out here on the Calla, we just use a pair of pliers and a bottle of whiskey to extract teeth...it's a beautiful thing.:biggrin2:

I was a crippled child who wore heavy leg braces, when I was 2 years old I fell into a swimming pool and sunk to the bottom. I can still remember looking up through the water and seeing my mom and her friend talking. I had to be revived and was in the hospital for a week while they got all of the water out of my lungs. I was terrified of the water for years, but my grandma pushed me to start swimming. I actually was able to swim before I was able to walk. My dad can not swim, and as you said sinks like a stone. I had to dive down once in the river and pull him back up to the surface. It reminded me of my drowning incident a lot. We had to move with the current for nearly a quarter of a mile before I could get us back to shore. He out weighs me by about 65 lbs. By the grace of God we both made it safely, but I have to give my thanks to my grandmother who pushed me to learn to swim.:bat:

Sounds like a dentist I used to have a few years back... did an extraction without even the benefit of booze.
Now... the last dentist I saw, after yet a different dentist buggered up my mouth, was good. He referred me to a surgeon who knocked me out before he took the offending tooth. Woke up with less pain than before I was put under.
I highly recommend general anaesthesia for serious dental work and oral surgery.

I ask once again that the Ka Tet pull together with good thoughts, vibes, intentions and prayers for all those along the Texas Gulf coast. Ike is building and has to make landfall someplace. May the shield of the Ka Tet keep all our members safe.
May all who lost their lives in 9/11 be remembered today, and all who were touched by the event.

Good morning all, and a special hello to Buckwheat. I have been so busy this week, it seems that the more that I do, the more that gets put on my plate. But I am proud of myself, I have started saying NO. I am just not willing to over do it everyday. There is a shed at my grandpa's house that needs torn down, it is a lot of work. I looked at it and decided that it is just something that I am not willing to do or ask my husband and son to do, I told my mother that she would need to hire a contractor to do the work. I felt bad at first, but then it was only relief that I felt. I am not going to kill myself down there anymore. I am looking forward to my orientation at the animal shelter this weekend so that I can start doing something that is just for me. I am 40 years old, I have given up much of my life doing for others, it is time for me to do a bit for myself. Wow the guilt I feel over saying that is tremendous. My two sons that live with me are 19 and 18, both grown, think they should start helping me out around here. Yes they both go to school, but they only go about 4 hours a day then spend the rest of the time sleeping, watching TV or playing games on the computer. Time for them to step up and do something. My husband may not take to this change very well, he is pretty stuck in his ways, but he can at least take over a few small things. Sorry to vent, just needed to get that off of my chest. :bat:

Hey Cowboy!
'Working on it' will have to do here. Lots on my plate today and I just want to get through the required stuff today, and then try to enjoy my day off.
How good are those Red Bulls you like to drink? I've heard that the new energy drink called 'Cocaine' has three times the kick in the caffeine department. Might be worth a try if I can find some.

Feeling a little better today! I fell asleep at 7pm last night and woke at 6am this morning, so I have had a good nights rest. The pain has subsided to a dull ache, the swelling is down and the pain killers have ran out!!!!:eek2: so I'm hoping the worst is over.

Happy early Birthday Spidey. I am stuck in a situation that I am not sure how to handle. You all know that I have been excited about going to orientation at the animal shelter on Saturday, but that is the day that they all want to tear down that shed. There are other people who want to go and pick up things from my grandpa's, so now I may have to miss orientation, and they don't have another one for a month. I am torn between something that I really WANT to do and something that I, unwillingly, have responsibility for. Not a wonder I feel depressed.:glare::bat:

Just had a weird thing happen to me. The cops just came to my door looking for my step son. I asked them what they wanted and they told me that they needed to speak to him. I hesitated, I again asked them what this was concerning, they got angry with me and insisted on speaking to him. I thought that Josh must have gotten into some trouble that I did not know about. I rushed into my sons room and told him that the police were at the door and wanted to speak to him right now. It turns out that they were here because he was not attending the local high school. My son turned 18 in August and has registered at the local adult school. He has been there for almost a month, I would have thought that when he didn't show up for registration or when they requested his transcripts that someone would have got the memo that he isn't going to attend this year.:glare: They scared the crap out of me and my son. He is 18 and a legal ADULT, he does not have to go to school if he doesn't want to, he chooses to. Don't the cops have criminals to catch? Or maybe the school calling me or sending me an email about his attendance? Seems a bit over the top to me.:eek2::bat:

Greetings Everyone!
I'm staying in my "safe place" during the oncoming storm. The path of Ike is predicted to go straight through the center of Houston. We will all be holding on and praying. Understand, a powerful storm like Ike doesn't come along very often, but often enough to stay prepared.
Poisonbat, some people in authority don't always merit that authority. The Serenity Prayer might be useful to you about now. My son was falsely accused several years ago by a rookie cop. Big eye opener for me and my family.

They want me to come to their shot clinic and help out next Saturday, I was a licensed Vet Tech a long time ago. Of course my license has not been renewed since I was 18, but they said that it didn't matter, they just want someone who knows how to vaccinate animals. I can't count how many vaccinations and other injections that I have given ALL kinds of animals, everything from cows to snakes. Hello all,
Hang in there everyone who is in the path of these storms...I'm thinking of you.
I'll have a spiced chai, but make it a latte! Have you tried LadyPain? They are fabulous, I'll make you one.
Just wanted to drop in and see how everyone is doing. I'm O.K., nothing too exciting or horrendous going on in my part of the woods...I'll check in later!
-Peace & Love
Well, with the amount of cream I put in my chai, it's pretty much a latte. I learned to drink chai in India with a lot of dairy in it.
Today was a good day at work, except for coming home with a purple thumb. Broke a blood vessel and it puffed right up. Dammmmmn, those buggers hurt.
I think I will take you up on that chai latte.

Good morning, folks.
Well, the old-timer who told me that bears didn't like the smell of mothballs was wrong. Bear went into the garbage again AND ate some of the mothballs. Maybe it likes spicy food.
What a mess that I had to clean up this morning. I am almost at the point of putting out a mat of pungee stakes at night. Let the bugger walk over THOSE! Conservation won't do a thing about this bear. I have called them repeatedly and all they could tell me was to bring the can inside. Excuse me! I don't have indoor storage that is not a part of my living space. The garbage can goes outside because I do not want to deal with bugs and smells in my house...
I have a dog run that is not in use because my dog is a house dog. Maybe we will have to clean out the plant pots and make a path to it and use THAT to store the garbage. I don't care how big that bear is, he's not going to be able to eat his way through chain link!
I think I need a drink of something a little stronger this morning. I'll take a zombie, thank you.

I wasn't able to make it to my first day of volunteering, I got tied up with realtors and paperwork. I so hate this, so I am going today. I have decided that I am going to not answer my phone unless it is one of my kids, all others can leave a message. I have already let some calls go to voicemail this morning. I hope that all that have been devastated by Ike make it through this disaster. Many hopes and prayers are being sent your way. :bat:

LadyPain,
Use ammonia, bears that stuff and that way you can keep your plants where they are. You won't have to move the garbage can into the house as well. Just pour a cup or two around your trash can and leave some in the trash can as well. I live out in the country, my ex's father said that ammonia works well. I hope this works better than the moth balls. If not, feel free to kick me a good one. Just aim for the shins or the butt, please.
Wish you luck,

I will have to get some ammonia and try that. I can even put it in a spritzer bottle and mist the can lid. It likes to pick the garbage can up by the lid and handle (in one bite) and carry it off a ways. I'll try just about anything.

I had such a wonderful experience yesterday, I had so much fun that the time just flew by. They started me out trimming everyone's nails, there are some that will have to get to know me better before that happens. I then got to weigh the kittens, they all have names, but it is going to take me a while to get to know them all. There are many volunteers that work for YAPS, but not one of the others are willing to walk " the problem dogs ". I told them that I would walk them each and every day. I began with Cobain, he is still just a big puppy and does well on the leash, but he did not want to let me go, he held on to my leg with both paws and I had to drag my leg from the kennel. http://www.yaps.org/dogs.php As you can see there are many faces here that just need a good home. What a wonderful turn out for SK birthday. I sure had fun cheering him. I am going to be busy today, boy I hate Mondays. My husband took today off, we have received two threatening letters from the old high school that my step son used to go to. These letters are threatening us with prosecution if we don't send him to school. I don't understand why they keep on us about this. After they sent the cops to my house, you think that they would have gotten the memo. "He is 18, did not enroll in your school this year, is currently enrolled in adult school, the adult school has requested his transcripts, He is not coming to Saturday school to make up classes that he never signed up for, what does it take to get this through there thick heads? I told my husband that I would deal with this, but NO he wants to do it himself. Why would a school do this to a person who is a legal adult. If he doesn't want to go to school, legally he does not have to. He is 18, he chooses to go to school. What a mess.:glare::bat:

Hey JohnD, I'll scoop one of those surplus hugs for myself. I was a baaaad girl yesterday and sat in the sun for a while to smoke. Long pants and long sleeves, but even just having my hands and one side of my face exposed to the sun seems to have been more than enough for trouble. Oh well. That's life.
((((((KimL)))))) Tests can be worrisome until the results come back okay. Even if they don't, life goes on. You've got all of us here if you need a shoulder or a place to hide.

It's shaping up to be a beautiful day today. I have tons of stuff I need to do today, and some stuff I want to do. I want to paint. It's just that kind of day -- the light is perfect. I read for quite a while last night. SK, of course. That is my bedtime fix. I even found the new batteries for the booklight. (Guess what I plan to do tonight?)
No better fix than reading SK in the dark with a wee light and lots of blankets.

It's been a really long day for myself, and it would be ideal if I could have a cup of hot chocolate and sit on the shore of a small, hidden lake watching the sun set and the leaves change.
Sound good to anyone else?

You must get a porch swing Kim! Providing you have a porch.... I used to have one on my porch in Tx. I spent many a gratifying hour on that thing. I didn't realize how much I'd miss it.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/OK4me/porch.jpg
That actually kind of looks like my old porch except my house was pink LOL. I had always meant to paint it a different color but never got aroundtuit.
Well, damn, I'll take that one! Thankee kindly, Miss Pat. Always running out of roundtuits, myself.

Hi, everyone. Sending prayers and good vibrations (oops, first typed "god vibrations!") to all who need them.
I have some hot bread, right out of the oven, and a soft stick of butter to spread on it, if anyone's interested. Also, blueberry preserves and apple jelly, and some strong, hot coffee.
Today is a good day - our pool is finished!!!!! I've never had a built-in pool, and am over the moon about it. Of course, it's finished just in time for fall, but we should be able to get about two weeks of swim time in it. Then we can spend the fall and winter landscaping.
When it gets to looking pretty I'll take a picture and post it. Right now it looks like a pool in the middle of a construction site - lots of mud.

I'd love to post some more, but I'm having the flu, so in this feverish delirious state, I must give up message board roaming for tonight... but I am very happy because my cat Mephisto is doing better! I think I would give my right hand for him, and any of my other cats. He has an inflammatory bowel disease since Friday, and his bowels came out:(((... we didn't know what to do, and this older vet who was on call during the weekend told us to give him dulcolax, which is a laxative, but it only made it worse. Seriously, I think this older vet is here to torture animals, not heal them. But karma's gonna get him. So, on Monday morning, we finally got to this young vet who then forwarded us to a private vet in Bihac, which is 1,5 hours away by car. He could've helped him too, but I guess he was banned from helping small animals, because "there's no money in it..." Yeah, this is where I live unfortunately. Thanx God Mephisto survived the trip, and for now it's holding, he has appetite again, he meows, walks a bit... *prays*
So I had the best Eid al-Fitr ever, even though I'm very sick^^
Just wanted to share this with you guys, you are all amazing, I feel like this is my second family!
hugs to all and have a nice day/night!

Too many for my taste, so I think I will be talking to management if I continue to see the cashier manager treating me like her 'flavour of the month' (on her sh*tlist) for offering to work merchandising shifts for the store manager at christmas instead of supervisor's shifts for her. I don't like being given the screwjob for her lack of planning.

Heya everybody. What's everybody got going on today?
Me, I'm just chillin in the dappled sunlight that filters through the thin curtains at the front, in my usual booth. Digesting too much of the few chinese foods I can still eat. Delightedly miserably stuffed.
I hope everybody else's day is just as simply wonderful.
