I've been watching that new NBC show, "Revolution" and, is it just me, or has anyone else noticed a lot of Stephen King related comments and situations? For instance, in one scene, the lead character, in response to a request for his name, says "I'm Stu Redman, and this is Frannie." Who are, as we all know, two main characters in "The Stand." In another scene, in a comment regarding prison, he says, "They're gonna Shawshank you!" Again, Stephen Kings creation; Shawshank Prison in Maine, in "The Shawshank Redemption." Not quite as blatant, a woman works on a computer in an attic, when we see only the rundown cowboy boots of a guy walking up to and into her house. She's terrified, and types, "Randall is here!" Need I say more about a guy walking in cowboy boots, named Randall, striking fear in peoples hearts? The final thing that caused me to start this thread was tonights show, where the characters find a group of orphaned kids, and one guy is not comfortable with this group and shares his trepidation to a woman, who says, "they're children!" To which he replies, "Yeah, children of the corn!"
I have not heard of Mr. Kings involvement in this show, and I have looked, but this a little coincidental! Maybe the writers are King fans, I don't know, but has anyone else noticed this, or perhaps knows something about this highly unusual circumstance? Let me know if youu have any info, or if anyone has noticed any other references that I missed. I look forward to other views on this!

More likely that the writers are fans as Steve is not involved with this show.

I always think it's cool when tv show writers give a nod to Stephen King ♥

J J Abrams is involved with this TV show. Anyone who watched the TV series LOST, also done by Abrams, is familiar will all sorts of SK Easter Eggs hidden within the shows. Guess the pattern continues.

Nope it's not. There's another thread about this around here somewhere.
Spidey hit the nail on the head - Abrams is a big fan and talks about how much he likes a lot.

Didn't a character in Lost make some not so charitable remarks about a King book during a book group?
What is Revolution about? I've not heard of it.

I just looked the show up on Wikipedia; it sounds a little like a futuristic Game of Thrones. Apparently one area of the former USA is called The Wastelands!

Hey Spidey, I'm new here so I don't know quite how to do this, but I hope you find this...what "Easter eggs" are you referring to? I watched "Lost" through the whole series, and I didn't catch them!

There were so many -- during a book club meeting, as the airplane flies over the compound, they are reading a SK book. Nozz-A La was used as an ad on Gale's Balloon. There was also a reference to King's exercise "on Writing". Wish I could recall more. It's been a long time!!

I've always wondered about things like this ... When a television show or a movie mentions something Stephen Kingy, for example, do they need to get prior permission?

If it's just a passing reference, they don't need prior permission.

I watch Revolution with my girlfriend. I don't like it all that much, but it's something to look at while holding hands and munching popcorn.
The show's been greenlighted for a second season, and it comes back from hiatus on Monday, March 25, 2013.
Offered here only as a head-up to anyone else who's patiently waiting, our other hand-holding, popcorn-munching shows that will be returning are:
Revenge -- Sunday, January 6
Once upon a Time -- Sunday, January 6
Switched at Birth -- Monday, January 7 (considered to be the beginning of season 2)
Last Resort -- Thursday, January 10 (not renewed)
Supernatural -- Wednesday, January 16
Haven -- Thursday, January 17 (two episodes, including the season finale, but renewed for another season)
Revolution -- Monday, March 25 (post-production delay, renewed fairly late)
Copper -- Sometime in 2013 (renewed)

This show has been on a pretty long hiatus (it's back!). I am just watching the newest episode. The episode name is... The Stand. Don't know if it relates or references SK yet. Glad I found this thread though.

Last week's was pretty good--definitely not what I was expecting from a mid-season return. The next one is looking to be pretty good, too.

Lots of SK references in last night's episode. A library full of SK books, I saw DT 7, Christine, Cujo, and The Stand.
At the end, they started talking about "The Tower" and in next week's teaser, were talking about having to go there to fix everything.

I've noticed a LOT of King-related things more so since they came back this last month. The last episode with the King Books (especially The Stand) and Randall Flynn played by Colm Feore? I mean come on - how much more King-like is that. Feore IS my choice to play the Crimson King in the movie(s). He'd be perfect. I love this program and getting all these little "Kingisms" is awesome.

My wife watches the show. I've seen a few episodes, but it's not on my must-see list. For that matter, I don't think any of my favorite shows are on the big three (ABC, CBS, NBC) anymore.
As a side note, JJ Abrams was also the driving force behind Fringe, and it had King written all over it.

My husband and I watched it last night and I said, "Okay, we have to watch out for SK books." Then the shot came up with the big SK sign and we were like, okay, well I guess we don't have to look too hard. Ha!
