Stephen King has always said that Pet Sematary was the most terrifying novel he wrote. He almost didn't even publish the book because it went to far. I can really understand why. Every since I was a little kid I have been terrified of the story. I didn't read the novel until I was in high school, and I am now reading it again in my early 20's.
Pet Sematary was the first horror movie I can remember watching. I was seven years old and Silver Bullet and Pet Sematary were on tv. For some stupid reason my parents let me watch both of the movies. I thought Silver Bullet was really good, and not scary at all. Pet Sematary was more intriguing, and it scared the crap out of me. What scared me the most was the scenes of Zelda in the bed and her haunting Rachel. I think I had nightmares about her for about two weeks. I also never liked the scenes with Gage in them.
The book scares me for so many other reasons. The Zelda thing doesn't scare me at all. It is just the entire process, and the darkness King uses to write the novel. The wording and the ideas are just terrifying. The images my mind creates are just disturbing. I still tink the epilogue is one of the most terrifying things I have ever read, and it is only one page of type.
Anyone else have the feelings? Did this book (and movie) scare you as much as it did me. I'd say this is King's only book that honestly terrifies me. The novel It does in some spots, but not as much as this one.
