View Full Version : Best SK movie music?

Which SK movie has the best musical soundtrack? In my mind, The Shining has the most iconic music--watching that aerial shot of the VW Beetle winding through the Colorado Rockies and hearing that synthesized version of "Dies Irae" omininously pouring out of the speakers is enough to raise gooseflesh! This movie has some of the most effective use of scary music since "Jaws" or "Psycho".

As for nice enjoyable soundtracks to listen to, I'll take "Stand By Me"!

Anyway, are there any other particular songs or soundtracks that you associate with Stephen King movies? Every time I hear "Bad to the Bone" I think of Christine!

I've always loved the music to The Stand. The opening with Blue Oyster Cult was perfect, and W.G. Snuffy Walden's music was great...

Hi,

I was kept on hold for about half an hour on Microsoft's helpline once.

That was the music that they played.

Don't know quite what that says about Microsoft.

Long days and pleasant nights

also the song the little girl hums over and over in Rose Red, for the life of me and can't figure out what this song was called.

I believed they played it from a vinyl during the movie too. (a soft seducing sweetness it was) Frank?? Any idea here?

It isn't "In the Mood", written by Joe Garland, is it?

Still not Frank, it's a lot softer, slower, and more melodic I guess. I remember the little girl humming it over and over, I can sing it(or hum it) out loud but that doesn't help you all here.

Been so long since I watched it I'm not sure about this, but there was also the theme from A Summer Place (Percy Faith).

Agreeing with you GNTLGNT! Also the same composer, Thomas Newman, did the score for "The Green Mile" which is also lush and beautiful.

The music for Kubrick's The Shining is my choice hands-down. It's one of the best scores to any horror movie.
I also think the one for Children of the Corn (1984) is pretty darn good.

I would have to say the intro music to Pet Sematary. Creeps me out still to this day.
The Green Mile's musical score was great too.

I was a bit disappointed that the film version of Christine didn't include any of the songs mentioned in the book. I enjoy creating playlists to go along with my current obsessions and was pleased that Christine (the book) came with its own built-in :y:

The music for movie Stand by Me is one of my favorite and the other one is Pet Sematary.

@screamingmimi I suspect that the budget for Christine didn't allow for the rights to all of those songs. Just my guess.
