Is it true that Eli Roth is going to direct the movie version of Cell?

I heard that Eli Roth was going to direct Cell. I also heard that he was going to change a lot of things from the book. I like Roth's works, but I am not exactly sure that he is the right person for the job. I feel like he will make it all about the gore and not enough about the story. I DO NOT know for sure that any of this is true I suppose thats why I am asking so does anyone know if it is true???

Eli Roth was originally scheduled to direct but decided to pass on it. I'm not sure at this point that there are still any plans to produce the film.
