Looked, didn't see a thread w/this title, audio On Writing, narrated by Stephen King. There's similar threads, It on audio, audio books, UR audio book, abridged audio?! (Yeah, that one is a puzzle, hey?...Drop sinc, say again! Over?)

The thing is, I just tried to buy an audio version of On Writing (on-line). I have these "reward points" I'll call them, reward points from a business for doing business w/them (construction), and I can redeem them at a variety of places, Amazon, Barnes & Noble.

So, that's what I do, or try to do. I take the necessary steps to set it up w/the reward points, go shopping at Amazon, key in "On Writing", pages pops up (I have the paperback, but I've read so many good reports about the audio that I want it.) and I thought I put it in my cart.

Heh heh heh! And me, thinking, well, I've been down this road before, get halfway through the line, think, oh wait! Yeah, The Teachings of Don B! So, I head back, go shopping, do that, add that to the cart.

Turns out they're from different sellers anyone, so shipping costs are moot. Well, okay, win some lose some, I try to do the check-out. Where's On Writing? Some munchkin stole it out of my cart? What?

Well, I check-out w/The Teachings of Don B and go looking for On Writing again. Back. Back. Back. Well, okay, look, how far back is it! A mystery. I hit the lowest back. Anyway, I find the page again (you could do this easy, but I'm not fluent and nobody in the store to help, that I saw) and I try again.

Audible Edition something or other I see. Not the thing I'd clicked on earlier, but between the back and forth, I figure, well, let's try that. Audible.com. Apparently the wicked step-brother of Amazon. Only, I don't know that yet.

I go through the process again, this that and the other, buy. I get this message, Thank you for your purchase. This will download to your Kindle.

WHAT! The Kindle has an audio capability and although I have not tried it yet, gut feeling tells me it sounds like those old transistor radios, so it'd be like King is on Altair-4 and I'm trying to dial him in, holding the Kindle up to the ceiling, turning it this way and that. And where's the rewind button?

Okay. Here's the Q
After realizing, well, you screwed that one up, think anyone saw? The wife is taking a nap in the living room. The points are like there, it didn't cost me anything additional. This email tells me to go to Audible.Com. I go there and it almost appears like I could listen to the book on the computer, which would be swell. (What would you do if you're listening to the Kindle and you hear this little voice: Help! Mr. Bill! I mean, would you take that as a message? Or what?)

I didn't want to proceed further at Amazon.Com until I got some feedback....heh heh.

Any ideas? There's some "new" and "used" versions selling, the new for two hundred smackers (250, I think) and the used for 60-70. What's so hard about keeping a few CDs on the shelf?

Looks like I jumped the gun on the above, but maybe it will help someone (I know I'm not unique.) down the line.

I was able to download a copy of On Writing last night. The download took the better part of a half hour and then some. 8+ hours of audio.

I'd gone back to that page that provided two options, DOWNLOAD and Send this to Altair-4 (The Kindle), this page on the Audible.Com site that pops up after the purchase. I was afraid to click on either option--the Kindle option because I've yet to listen to a book on the Kindle. Help! Mr. Bill! I want to be inspired, not lose all hope and respect and begin to hire employees. (Again, I've been there.)

So...there were also two "purchases" showing--On Writing, and something called..."You First Listen". First Listen was part of the title but I don't recall the exact wording. After repeated attempts to do it right, it's going to take money! a whole lot of spending money! to do it, to do it, to do it, right!

See, what is needed is that "First Listen" thingy. I download--I thought I downloaded On Writing--heh heh!--and then try to open it. The computer always asks you what program to use, right? Well, gee, I like that Acrobat character, let's try him. Nope. So, okay, well how about Media Player? The computer doesn't like that, it goes to General Quarters, Set Condition Zebra throughout the ship. Come on man, cut me some slack, go to Plan C. I try some other program--the wife has this Ipod and there's a program for that. Nope.

"First Listen" is a kind of program that you need to listen to an audio from Audible.Com. Maybe there's another program(s) and you're not...slow, or whatever adjective works...

I spose this explains why there didn't seem to be any "discs" available--"new" from two for $250 or so, used for 60-70--this at Amazon. I don't believe I saw any, new or used, at Barnes & Noble. The download was ? 19? Yeah, about $19.

I'm afraid I can't help you with your problem, but I do find the idea of having a work that's called "On Writing" in audiobook form, hilarious.

Here you go buddy.
These start out a around 30 bucks. Look for a used seller with a good track record and it's in the bag, so to speak.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=node%3D368395011&field-keywords=On+Writing+a+Memoir+of+the+Craft+Stephen+King&x=10&y=11

or

The cassettes look like a good deal if you have a player that is.

I've never listened to an AB on my Nook, but I imagine you'd have to use headphones, mine doesn't have speakers from Altair 4 or anywhere else for that matter.

Good Luck!
