I just finished reading the book. All four , five stories, am not sure fo the quantity. It amazes me the low profile of this stories. Specially when they deal so majestically on one side with growing up in the 60s and how they deal as well with chracters connecting to each other.
Of Stephen King's books this was the one I read the slowlier because each tale was a story to be comprehended, or perhaps because I had way to many electrical gift for my christmas. But I feel encourage by the way Kign writes about the fight of both soldiers and activists of the Vietnam war, both their glories and tragedies. I come from Latin America in wich the novel of political critic of some kind is big and monstruously detailed. To the point of lacking what is mroe affected in those times humanity. Stephen King managed to put Nate and Carol as a generation's couple messed up by the scholarship, drunken fathers and a war.

Interesting yet quite low profile tales.

I also think the movie should reshoot but keeping Anthony, he was fatter than what I picture Ted  but it was good.

PS

I found it specially funny book to read considering what the Almighty SK's wife said about SK , Vietnam and Nixon :)

As always excuse the engrish.

It was well, well written...even the political aspects, and yeah-there were some damned funny moments....

Not always, Alonso -- try "Un Dia De Vida" or "Cuzcatlan" by Manlio Argueta.

If you like the low-profile approach to US politics, you might check out some Philip Roth -- "American Pastoral" might be right up your alley.

We all float down here.

"We blew it."

LOVE this book!

I grew up in the late sixties, early seventies - my older brother had a draft lottery number, so did his friends. This book utterly touched my soul, especially on the re-read a couple of months ago.

I loved it too. Of all the Stephen King books I own this was the one that kept slipping me by and the one I never really heard about when fans discussed his work. It was a pleasant surprise as I really got caught up in every aspect of each tale from the characters (whom I feel are some of the best well rounded and memorable characters Stephan King has ever written) to he political undertones. I am surprised how low profile and underrated this collection it is. :dunno:

Hey All:smile2:,

I just got done with Low Men in Yellow Coats and just started Hearts in Atlantis. I have one question is the short story Hearts in Atlantis a story about Stephen King's College years? I only read 20 pgs. of it last night and thought wow a true story about what King did @ U of M. I also thought it could be half true/ half fiction, since he is explaining the 60's and the turmoil that took place. I can't wait to read more of the story, but am I right, half-right about this story?

Just dropping in to agree w/ everyone. I think it's one of S.K.'s most dramatic works... but, wow, so good.

Hey All:cool2:,

I have read more of Hearts in Atlantis, and realize the main character in the book isn't SK, but Paul? I think it's a great story so far, it reminds me of my college yrs, but cards were not that big @ my school. We did have a lounge on each floor were people did get together and do their own thing. Did it remind U of Ur college or high school yrs?
