I have a copy of Nightmares and Dreamscapes sitting on my to read pile. I am just wondering if anyone would like to share with me what their favorite story in the collection was.

I have always been very partial to Suffer the Little Children.
Some people like to say there's no such thing as a bad child, but when they're in groups, children can get up to some pretty nasty shenanigans.

Definitely the one I still remember clearest is The Moving Finger, maybe because it was just so bizarre...

umney's last case...:y:
i liked the raymond chandler feel of it...but this one goes one further than raymond chandler...
and "you know they got a hell of a band" is right up there, too...as is moving finger...dolan's cadillac...rainy season...crouch end...the doctor's case...that one is nice for the different style, somewhat...experimenting i guess he was.

the one that really stuck with me was 'dolan's cadillac' ... one of my favorite shorts of the king
also 'umney's last case' was a beaut ... also this one was very well-done in the TNT series that took some of the stories and made them into 1-hour episodes

yeah i stumbled onto the movie recently and was very pleased with it ... christian slater is really hit and miss, at least the quality of the movies he's in are inconsistent, but he was very good in this adaptation :) i recommend it :)

At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to see this adaptation or not. I tend to stay away until I have read the novel or story it is based on. In this case I am pleased that I saw it!

This is my favorite of his collections. Two that others haven't mentioned which are standouts are Home Delivery (kings artful spin on the classic zombie tale) and the 10'0 Clock People (an oddly moving surreal little piece).

I'd have to go with Sorry, right number.....that would just be too weird to get your head around.

The ones that I remember the most were "Dolan's Cadillac", "You know they got a hell of a band", and "Sorry, right number", these were really good stories but The whole book in general when I first read it was really great though.

My favorite story in this collection? Quite difficult to decide; probably a toss-up between Chattery Teeth, a perfect blend of humor and horror, and Umney's Last Case, because of how deeply attached to Umney I was. Popsy and Rainy Season and The End of the Whole Mess were very good too, but the last one I mentioned is too depressing for me to be my favorite story of the group.

My favorite has to be Chattery Teeth. You have three elements coming into one: First you have a description of Scooter's Grocery and Roadside Zoo, with Scooter and Mrs. Scooter, followed by 2. the nasty hitchhiker coming into the picture by being in the store to buy cigarettes and hopefully hitch a ride (the part about the kid counting his change out slowly was excellent!) and 3. The Chattery Teeth being in a novelty display case in the store, which the main character in the story buys for his son. Stephen King's writing at its best!!

At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to see this adaptation or not. I've still put off seeing it for fear of it not living up to expectations (I've been let down by a lot if them.). This was the first S.K. Collection that I read, so I have high hopes.
"Umneys Last Case", "Crouch End", "Dolan's Cadillac", and "You Know They Got a Hell of a Band"(runner up for favorite) are all awesome stories, my favorite is "The Night Flier".
I really wish it had made the cut for the tv series.

My favorite would have to be The Moving Finger. The idea in itself is really creepy.

While we're on the subject, and with no offense to Stephen King, I heartily recommend reading the scary novel "Let's Go Play at the Adams'" by Mendal W. Johnson. If you can stomach it and if you can find a copy. Copies can still be found at Amazon.com or Alibris.com

Oh god that is SUCH a hard choice....Dolan's Cadillac was AMAZINGLY detailed. End of the whole mess was so Sci-Fi flavored. suffer the little children was terrifying. umm. I don't know. its a tie between Suffer the little children, moving finger, hell of a band, rainy season, sorry right number, the ten o' clock people, crouch end (SCARY AS HELL) and umney's last case.
