Unless something changed and I didn't know, Sai King was scheduled to appear at the Charoltte County, FL Big Read kickoff event this past Saturday (3/20).

Did anyone get to attend? If so, could you give us a brief synopsis of the event and SK's talk? Any other things to share in regards?

I was really wanting to attend this and took out a CL ad to find anyone that would part with tix, but had no luck.

In any case, I hope it went well and big thanks to Steve for continuing to be involved with getting more kids's noses out of the TV set and into a good book! :y:

PORT CHARLOTTE — Nightmares.

We've all had them, where we wake up shaking and coated in a layer of sweat, hoping that the lifelike images we just saw were nothing more than fiction.

Some of the more terrifying dreams send hoards of people running for the nearest therapist's office, where they wait for their turn to shell out their hard-earned cash as they relive the horror in an attempt to find peace.

But for Stephen King, peace from nightmares comes through writing.

King, the famed author of such chilling tales as "Carrie," "The Shining," "The Stand," "Misery" and "The Green Mile," prefers to give his nightmares life as he pens them into short stories and novels, pieces of modern-day horror that have thrilled readers for decades.

"One of the reasons that I write this stuff is because if you're nervous or if something has really scared you, you can turn it around and scare the hell out of someone else," he laughed, as he addressed a crowd of more than 400 Saturday at the Cultural Center of Charlotte County theater.

He was there as host of the kickoff for the Charlotte County Big Read — a six-week-long literary celebration meant to promote reading in the community. On Saturday, King spoke about reading, writing and the inspirations for his captivating stories.
