It's fun to read again. Haven't read a book in years. Just re-read The bad place by Koontz. And now I'm reading The Stand again, one of my favorites. Also ordered Desperation and Bag of bones today :grinning:

i started my 3rd read of this a couple weeks ago. currently, i'm on page 920. this is one of my favorite king novels...first king novel i ever read, too (the cut version, that is). so even though this is my 3rd time reading it, it's really only my 2nd time reading the uncut version.
moving on to colorado kid next.

I finished my 4th time in January. It was hard reading it this time without picturing the stupid casting from the TV movie. i HATE HATE HATE that I see Molly Ringwald in my mind. Stu and larry I thought they nailed, but otherwise, Meh.

The Stand is one of my favorite works by Sai King, and I make it a point to re-read this fine tale every couple of years.
My wife and I, along with my sister and brother in law, will be taking a road trip through Colorado later this summer, and with much of our route down I-70, I really want my wife to read The Stand before we go. I lived in the Eagle/Gypsum area of Colorado for a few years, and this trip will be fun. I might even start re-reading this story again, after I finish re-reading the DT series (on Book 4 now).

I'm re-reading The Stand at the moment, have been for a couple weeks, it's just as wonderful as it was five years ago when I first read it, especially since I'm older and I can understand and appreciate the themes it portrays better; it was the first Stephen King book I read outside of The Dark Tower series, and has been the ultimate catalyst to my inspiration in being a writer, such an amazing story

Hello, everyone!
I thought it would be interesting to post an update. I should be able to finish chapter 52 today. The more I read, the more astounded I become. I am in awe of, and really respect Stephen's ability to delivery such a complicated, in-depth, and enriching story. This re-read is like nothing I've ever experienced. It's as if I've never read The Stand.

I've just about completed shoveling off the "other" reading material on the stand by my Big-Boy recliner, and have the sole purpose of using a block and tackle to help lift the unabridged "Stand" into my middle aged lap so I might become lost in the pages again...and no bread crumbs to follow out!:biggrin2:

during college, a good friend of mine and i loved the stand ... invariably, if one of us sneezed in the summer months, 'nothing worse than a summer cold' would get mentioned ... we reread the stand about once a year or so for quite a few years ... probably 8 believe it or not ... i can't remember ... i've probably read the stand 15 times ... original much more than uncut since i had that one from it's first publishing (it was the 2nd king book i ever read) ... i'm still not sure which version i prefer ... i love all the little extra vignettes of survivors meeting odd/poor ends ... the man running til he has a heart attack, the woman firing the gun and it misfiring and killing her etc ... those are great features of the uncut ... but then again, i like the time setting of the original (i didn't think the uncut needed an updating of the time period) ... also the rescue of the women from those horrible men was pretty awesome ...
