View Full Version : Tried IT once. Worth trying again?

So I got half way through IT in my final year in college (5 years ago.) For some reason I didn't check it out of the library but just read it during my free periods if I didn't have any work. So I never finished it. Unfortunately that left me with the memory of finding it hard to get through and slow going. But now I don't know if that memory is flawed because I read it in bits and pieces over a number of weeks, often with interruptions from friends.
So, should I try it again? Reading it properly this time? (I have a feeling a SK forum is a biased place to ask this but I like to get opinions :wink2: )

Yes try it again, when you can focus and give it the attention it deserves.
I've read this book many times, and I always find something new in it each time.
I hope you manage to get into it this time, good luck. :smile2:

Hi,
It is indeed a biased place to ask that question LOL
But (perhaps predictably) I definitely think you should give it another chance, especially since you're five years older (and presumably wiser?), IT's a magnificent novel IMO and you won't be disappointed this time.

Thanks everyone :) I'm going out shortly so I'm gonna drop by the library and see if they've got a copy in.

You dang betcha you better give it a go a second time! This is classic stuff and wonderfully character driven. Besides, if you don't, Pennywise may be chatting you up from your bathroom sink tonight.

IMO, ALL of Uncle Stevie's books are worthy of a reread. The only one I haven't is Blaze. It's locked in the back of the Jeep and I can't get it out...

At first in the beginning of the book I was worried because I wasn't that interested, then I got to the end (the good part) and it made me appreciate the beginning more. Anyways It is a great book, but you have to read it all to really enjoy it.

but then again, when i read DT4 the first time, i found it kinda dry and drawn out, then the second time i read i saw in a totally different light, now i can really enjoy rereading that book, sometimes a second time around for a book is the best way to enjoy it. some times. lol

Hopefully you've found the book in the library and have started reading it, because IMO It is one of, if not the best, SK novels, and is up there as my favourite novel of any I've ever read. Every time I read it it seems to get better and better.

While many Stephen King books will produce different opinion (I disliked Cell, someone else will probably tell you it's the best ever), It is pretty much a consensus. It's an amazing story, really and I certainly recommend you pick it up and give it another shot.

I'd read it again - everytime I read IT, I notice subtle things I didn't notice before (connections to other SK books, etc..) Gets better everytime.

I think the journey is unique to every Reader. I read a lot of sK before starting IT. Who knows why I chose the next ones to read. I put off some. Their time will come.
I have been taking my time with IT because by the time I started I had come to savor reading sK, and IT has been like a feast.
Don't you want to pick up where you left off?

I loved It. I have read it about 3 or 4 times. An old familiar friend who never ceases to show me somthing I had not seen before.

I've only read IT once, but not because I didn't like it. I've just never been a re-reader unless I have nothing else to read. You should try re-reading it. It's a really good book.

The first time you read it, it's possible you may be to excited like I was, you want to get through it as fast as you can and get to all the Pennywise action, and you might say "Screw all that Derry history" and get bored easily. The second time around, knowing what's going to happen you pick up on more than you thought possible and you appreciate practically everything about IT.

I'm totally biased, first SK book I read and I loved it then, and love it now! It's a chunky delve but well worth it!
